Is it common for a school to hire a coach and not issue any press for over 2 weeks?

He is not the S&C coach for basketball. He is the Asst Director of Athletics for S&C. Responsible for all sports except Football. It was announced as an addition to the AD staff, not the BB staff. It appears that Pikiell wants to announce the whole staff at one time.
It's good to keep everyone guessing about it. Don't want to tip our hand to boosters and recruits.
Think RU is limiting what they hand out to the media and will be tight lipped about what's going on in every sport from now on.
Making sure all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed will be the norm to cut down anything that might produce negative coverage.

I guess that makes sense. I stand by the proposition that news should not leak over two weeks prior to finalizing a hire as significant as this.
Not only boosters and recruits. But if opposing coaches don't know what staff that they can expect on a given day then they can't prepare for our sets and plays. Let them see who will be coaching when they come out of the locker room!
Honestly, I couldn't care less about an "official" announcement from the school for an assistant coach, but maybe HC PIkiell has a way that he wants to do this and, if so, fine with me!
Not sure if this is all Coach P here. Remember we now have a media saavy AD that will encourage "controlling the message." I am sure that when the time is right, the message will come out and it will either be a written announcement or a press conference but whatever it is will be well thought out and have the maximum impact. Maybe it will happen on Saturday so that it is in Sunday's paper.....lol
Yes...that was the way HCCA did it.......probably a personal preference of his. Since that went on for over a month with 10-15 announcements in total the feeling was why "store the announcements up" and do it at one time?
Since hoops is 6-8 people in a 2-3 week period it may be more effective to do it all at once. Although Pat Hobbs did announce the S&C hire already since Van Dyck will be involved with 23 sports teams.
The official announcements came roughly a week after they were made. Likely to account for background checks, final approvals by those that needed to rubber stamp them, etc.
