Flood has already gone beyond the original time frame for deciding the starting QB. Although I have no idea what was in his head about this before the summer camp, it is obviously closer than some may have first expected or why the extension?
With this decision so critical, you would think he would want to be giving the starter a lot more reps long before we enter the final week which is aimed at game #1 prep.
So, yes or no?

He will announce a starter before the next practice after tonight's scrimmage.

Policia,
I have no idea where you are getting this sh*t from, but I would suggest you do some research before you type. I have absolutely no agenda against Flood (in fact I think he has done a pretty good job) or the QB situation which, if you haven't noticed, is a pretty big deal.

Hope Flood is keeping the pressure on both contenders until the last moment.
That way the one that claims the starting job will be used to putting it all on the line
and not having the opportunity to coast because he felt the job was locked up .

Giving the one who might be slightly ahead , but with time to decide, might not be the best way to see how that player preforms with it all on the line.
Making both compete till the bitter end might just help a new starting QB be able to do the job right , because of the pressure put on him when he had to compete for it.
I don't care when Kyle names his starting QB, just want the one picked ready to handle it and able to do a good job .

Probably yes. My speciation is that since Laviano was consistently ahead in the spring, he chose 7-10 days to have a little competition but figured the decision wouldn't be too hard based on the spring so that was enough time. He stuck with the 7-10 days line until the first scrimmage so the extension seems to be Rettig making up ground. My guess is that whoever does better today will be named the starter.

One interesting stat from the first scrimmage was that Rettig acelled in the red zone whereas Laviano's drives stalled. If that happens again today, it will make the decision much easier for Coach.

I was going to +1 PaKnight, until I read your post. I think what you say makes a lot of sense.

I was at the scrimmage, take my word when I say that many of those stats are skewed because of situational circumstances. Both guys played well, but rettig did not outperform laviano , and although laviano didn't make many mistakes, he didn't necesarily outperform rettig. Scrimmage stats don't paint that accurate of a picture.

Thanks RU ready. I was going by the comment from the Targum article that Rettig's red zone drives resulted in TDs and Laviano's didn't. Will be interesting to hear the takeaways from today's scrimmage.
