Is Wolf officially out of the rotation now that O is active?

There's only room for 1 unless Cliff gets hurt or into foul trouble. Just not enough minutes for 3 5's

Ogbole is a monster. He needs to play to develop but he's 290 lbs of pure muscle and has a 7'6 wingspan

Wolf is 6'9? and seemingly skinnier every time he steps on the court

If Mag stays hurt Pike could put Wolf in some of those minutes depending on the opponent, that Oskar and Austin Williams took up yesterday

He is until he isnt

There could be a time due to foul trouble we need another BIG to play the 5. His number could be called. Unfortunately, he just doesn’t have the skill set to play any other position and he’s undersized for a 5. Not really the most ideal characteristics for a deep back up player. Role players should be guys who can come in and knock down shots, be a physical body down low to grab a few rebounds, or be a defensive stopper for a few possessions. Wolf doesn’t really bring any of these things right now unfortunately. He’s athletic and seemed to have raw potential last year but at this point just doesn’t seem to have converted that potential.

Yes, Rutgers put out an Official statement that he is out of the rotation (SMH)
I didn't ask Pike this question
Or Knight
Or Smoke
I didn't even ask Halloway
And decided not to bother Hobbs with such trivial matters

I asked the board, whom I trust, and whos been proven pretty knowledgeable on various subjects throughout the years

I have my own opinion on it, but, wait for it.... wanted to get the view of others of equal or greater knowledge

Crazy I know, right? Actually, I just had a revelation that that that's almost the entire point of being on the message board ???!!!

We need 2 extra players to leave to accommodate the incoming players.

Conventional thought has generally been Clif/Oskar.
If Clif does return, I guess that moves Woolf into that leaving spot?

Next year: Clif, Somerville, Ogboloe/Woolf?

Doubtful both Ogboloe and Woolf are both here. Even if Clif leaves, do we pursue a more experience C? (And need another player to leave - perhaps Chol?)

I wouldn’t be surprised if an in game situation arises in the next few games where pike inserts wolf and he rises to the occasion and gives us a much needed lift. Most thought Noah and Oskar were left for dead and look how they performed recently. I’m not saying wolf will come in and knock down some treys but I do think he is capable of helping with defense and rebounding. Pike will know when he is needed.

Chol definitely going to leave before Oskar. I actually don’t see a scenerio where Oskar leaves. He already went down the road of considering a midmajor. He loves Rutgers and will be way more useful in a utility role next season than Chol. Not even close. Fans don’t seem to understand that the back end of the roster isn’t getting “upgraded” in the portal. Transfers want playing time. Oskar is a fantastic fit. It’s almost impossible to do better.

I think he was just having fun with your use of the word "officially". No worries, all good.

Correct. Oskar was out of the rotation for 3 games and then Mag has to sit out and suddenly Oskar is not only back in the rotation, but he’s a damn hero with three 3s to keep us in the game.

I can almost guarantee that Woolf will play at some point in a meaningful spot.
Yes - but definitely telling that after Ogbole got the T we spelled Cliff with Hyatt sliding to the 5.

Oskar has got to go we can’t waste a spot on him next year as you can see till Mawot got injured the other day Oskar was not going to play at all and I know he bailed us out in the first half but he really brings nothing to the table so to speak

Let the season play out. As others said, Noah and Oskar were out of the rotation until they weren't, and they really helped us get two wins. Hyatt had a great quote the other night about accepting his new role. Guys have to be willing to do what is asked of then and ready to contribute when called upon. Wolf may be critical in any given game moving forward. Maybe he gets some minutes on Garcia tomorrow if Mag is limited. He has a lot more size than Hyatt. We shall see.

I’m thinking Ogbole with 2 years left is here next season. He knows he is getting valuable minutes and to my untrained eyes is having fun. Wait until the day the light turns on.

Your not getting it. We have Ace Bailey coming in to play the bulk of the minutes at 4. We’re hoping to keep Mag to swing between the 3 and backing up Ace at the 4. But if he leaves that will be another spot to shop in the portal. Additionally we have two frosh forwards coming in 6-7 and 6-8 Dortch and Grant. What type of a transfer portal kid do you think wants to compete for PT with this? The answer is - not one who will add more value than Oskar.

Now look at guard. We have Dylan coming in to lock down a starter position. Hopefully J Williams starts alongside of him. Then we have Simpson and Davis to share the minutes and possibly we play stretches of 3 guard rotations. If any of the 3 guards on the roster decide to transfer, that will open up yet another portal spot. And you think a guard good enough to realistically compete for time is going to want to transfer here to share time with this log jam? It’s not happening.

At the 5 - we either keep Cliff or directly replace him in the portal with someone experienced. We have Somerville coming in along with Ogbole or Wolf (one will likely transfer because again - who wants to be the 4th option at the 5 on the bench).

So I’ll ask again - why do you think there’s a utility player out there better than Oskar who is going to want to ride our bench to possibly come in here and there for minutes. Any explanation is living in a fantasy world.

I mean people have complained about us taking Oskar back this year when the alternative was literally nothing at all. These people just aren’t very smart.

There's a reason that even pro teams have end of bench guys that aren't budding superstars. Teams need role players and it takes a certain type of personality/player to come in and have to be ready for spot duty / uneven minutes and always be ready nor complain.

Further, dentist said he brings "nothing to the table" yet he did in this past game.

Oskar is a perfect end of the bench guy who should not be in the rotation but ready in case of foul trouble/injury. He seems ok to be that guy and not everyone would be.

He’s an ideal candidate for this role in every way possible - including his position which is versatile. And he’s a possible situational zone breaker.

Absurd. I’d almost guarantee Pike would consider it a VERY successful off season if we retain everyone except Chol (who never plays) and either Wolf or Ogbole (keeping both just doesn’t make sense) and don’t tap into the portal at all. That’d be our current starting 5, out back up big man, along with two 5 star and three 4 star recruits covering all the positions - and Oskar.

You’re basically not going to find a better guy than Oskar to be in the 11 to 13 spots on the call sheet.

You did say officially. Depending on matchups and how Ogbole plays, we still may see Woolfolk back in the rotation.

If Mag is out for Minnesota, there are real matchup issues. Even though Wolf at the four did not work out as we had hoped, I could see them dusting it off for this game just because of the Garcia/Payne combination.

I thought Pike might use Wolf or Ogbole depending on the size and strength of the other team's 5 but it is trending that Ogbole is the backup 5

If Mag is out we might need Wolf to play some 4 on Garcia. I have been against Wolf at the 4 and it was a giant fail early season, but Garcia is a matchup problem at the 4 with no Mag. I do expect Mag to play though

If Cliff stays Wolf will be gone. That's pretty much a lock. No one wants to be 4th string 5 behind Cliff Lathan and Ogbole

Exactly. It's hard to find people who would be happy positive influences and true team first guys playing the very end of the bench especially not in the portal era

Agree with the overall premise, but if a guard transfered, we could find someone. Being only 1 of 4 guards there is definitely room for playing time. Especially if we were to start or play big minutes for 3 guards like we are this year

Oh yes. Let me clarify. I meant that we aren’t going to be able to add a 5th guard who could help us more than Oskar. If one of the guards leaves, that will open a portal spot and we wouldn’t need Oskar’s. There is no scenerio where we conceivably trade Oskar in for something better was the point.

Wolf will be needed for any positive contribution and when you least expect it like Noah and Oskar in back to back games. He has lost his confidence and Egbole gives Pike the big body he likes in the middle and shot blocking. Really puzzling why Wolf has gone backwards this year.
Now as for next year , Cliff and Oskar are gone. The center position will be Egbole , Somerville and Wolf if he is still here . Doubt a portal center will be added.
Mag, Ace , Grant and Doerch will

It's going to depend on the matchups. Several things to factor here:
- No one knows how much Ogbole is in the doghouse after that insanely stupid kick at the NW player.
- The more the competition level goes up, the more warts we're seeing out of Ogbole and the question becomes how much longer can Pike go with him. Ogbole is not this great player that some of you want to hype and could cost them a game if he plays more than 10 minutes.
