RAPID REACTION — St. Peter’s

When we are complaining about the refs after a ten point win, you know they were historically bad.

Interesting. Helps confirm my suspicion that committing so many fouls was no accident. I suspect being extremely physical is a strategic decision by their coach. Willing to give up free throws in exchange for making opponents wary about going inside perhaps?
I think just trying to play very tough. Frankly I didn't see much intent to play rough but just their style I guess. And I give them credit that the fouls weren't hand slapping fouls but more so body stuff. From what I thought I saw.

Doesn't hurt that Rutgers played a more aggressive get to the rim type game then our historical hoist from the outside.

Yeah but it wasn't 10 till the end. IIRC it was still 1 possession or up 4 with 2 mins left..

Refs definitely blew some calls but what else is new. No complaints here.

Through 2 games although early I think I am safely ready to say I would rather see more of Dercack and Hayes on the court than Jwill when it comes to weaving in Ace minutes

What Jwill “strengths” are are 1000x bigger strengths of ace and Dylan aka needs the ball in his hands to be productive and I don’t think he brings enough else to the table that Dercack and Hayes add.
1000% agreed! Pike has to Maximize the teams strengths while aligning playing style to give us the best opportunities to win. Jwill in the scone unit gives us leadership with the new guys, he can be ball dominant and look to score more, while surrounding Ace and Dylan with shooters and loosening up the lane.

Gonna need Jwill to regain his form from last year if we really want to compete but idk what kind of player he can be without the ball in his hands. Not getting a big man or more shooting in the portal is still pretty dumbfounding.
His form is pretty similar to last years right now. Thought a whopping two games his eFG% is the same as last year and he's averaging more assists. There is just talent around him now that is ok'dness doesn't stand out now.

Yes . They got 1 call right. Stop dying on this hill. Everyone in the arena saw how bad the refs were tonight and it wasn’t both ways . If was almost all in favor of St. Peter’s and almost always against Rutgers. I hardly ever in my history of posting discuss the refs when usually there are tons of things to point out why a team won or lost. Last night was blatantly one sided bad.
They got that one and the Dylan travel right and the OOB at the end of the game, so that's 3, just off the top of my head. The did miss a couple of other OOB calls earlier in the game, though, but I thought the fouls were fairly called with misses on both sides. You don't and neither do some other homers on the board. And whenever someone resorts to a ridiculous comment like "everyone in the arena saw X" it's obvious they have no case to make and are hoping to simply browbeat people into agreeing with them. Hint: it doesn't work.

The most egregious call was when Lathan went up to block a shot, whiffed on it completely (missed the ball by about a foot and a half), and the refs said the ball went out of bounds off of him.

The refs were horrendous and so was our 1st half defense. We can control one of these things and that needs to happen fast or it'll sink our season.

Random thoughts:

Acuff looks...lumbering? Not sure what i'm seeing here or what' supposed to happen.
That’s a nice way to put it. His… form / just dribbling seem very unnatural. I wasn’t sure if that’s due to injury or he just has a unique style? Either way, I can’t see him playing more than 7-8 mpg, once we get into big ten play.

Or the one that went off Dylan’s knee (but never touched his knee), the foul on Derkack when he never touched him, at least 3 blatant moving picks that weren’t called one of which we were clotheslined, the foul missed on JMike at the end of the game or the jump ball call on the Martini rebound or the jump ball on the block on Derkack that were both fouls.

A subpar big man would be better than Ogbole
Based upon what? Two games? He played pretty well last night with as many rebounds as Sommerville. Not including when Martini played the 5, our big gave us 17 points and 8 rebounds.

I was there and am in row 2, so I have a pretty good view. There were some bad/missed calls both ways - they certainly were very aggressive and the 23-11 spread reflected that.
It wasn't the fouls that bothered me. It was the 5 calls that gave the ball to them that should have been ours. 5 possessions that they shouldn't have had.

Ideally they get all the calls right but pointing to a couple calls refs got right isnt proof of anything. Even in the worst reffed game of all time there would be tons of good calls
