Issa Thiam

I haven't seen him ever listed on our committed list. I don't know if this is anything new or not.

Just that he was on the commitment list before and now he is not. I am sure he was removed for a reason.

Bad form by whoever runs the database. Still committed on the other sites.

That's not how it works. Players just don't come off lists before an official announcement.

I thought I seen him on the SN commit list but could have been on another site .
Checked another site and Thaim's listed as a commit.
Hope he comes , but if he doesn't I wont worry about it.
Next man up or one more for next year.

I gave a clue about this (Above...meaning he was tall) in another thread (Foreman transferring) that he was looking elsewhere...no surprise there.

This is completely on Shoes.

Vetrone stays, so does Thiam. Not in a threatening way...but that's really his only remaining connection to RU. No reason to over analyze it...

But what's the point of the thread? We all knew his ties to Shoes but the thread said it's happened.

There's plenty of talent out there and we have a college HC who acts like one. Finally.

Anyone else read the SI article a few weeks ago regarding the recruits from Canary Basketball Academy? And how teams then plan a trip to Spain...a paid trip...paid to a set up Travel Agency that is connected to the CBA... And we were planning this trip for the summer...Coincidence? gotta love the legal loopholes in recruiting

And St. John's got the best one. Sima. SMH

understand. But any insight as to why the delay on Shoes staying or not? Put em on or take em off. (IMHO)...If the Shoes fit wear em. Otherwise get a new pair NOW.

Pikiell is taking his time with the process, perhaps with some outside the box solutions...

Gotta let him do it at his pace, ultimately he's the one dealing with the results of his choices.

Let's let the new coach make the decisions that are necessary to make the program well again. We have been been crap for so long, so let's let coach get his assistants in here and start from scratch if that is the way that it is going to be. No one should be taken hostage by any player or recruit.

Losing all assistants and recruits and players might be the result, but I have confidence in Pikiell and his new staff to fill the roster somehow(5th year players, overseas players, overlooked or unsigned recruits) and start to re-build as we need to be done.

Best of Luck,
Groz

yes. This is true. thanks. (I kinda thought he was workin it since no direct news on the subject)

If the source of the OP is the rivals database then this is nothing as Thiam has never been listed. Tripp and Dailey were the only two listed, Dailey has since decomitted.

There are solutions and ways to build the staff/team that can accomplish as much as we can hope for......if it results in Shoes staying, it won't be because of lack of effort or creativity by Hobbs/Pikiell/RU.

At the same time, the recruit has to have other connections to others beyond Shoes, if he decided to not come back to RU...I don't see this as a situation where Thiam goes only where Shoes goes. Thiam is going to have to make a longer term decision about whether RU or any school is where he wants to get an education and play basketball, otherwise he will eventually land on the ever growing transfer list in a year or two, because of some other change that happens here or elsewhere.

I don't know what will happen but clearly things look easier on paper with Thiam vs without....obviously with Hobbs now on the staff, perhaps he has connections to another player or two, but ideally it would be to add on or to strengthen the roster vs replacing other verbals. Let's see what happens but the poster above mentioning potential departures isn't discussing anything new here, Thiam and Shoes are well documented as connected items in regards to RU.

No longer committed according to Rivals.
It's all about Shoes. And at this point it doesn't look likely that Vetrone is coming back.

This kid has game. Not a star but a quality player. It would be a bad loss.

There isn't plenty of talent out there at this late date.To think so is really wishful thinking.

Its amazing how Shoes stock has risen since being on the verge of losing his position at RU. Am I remembering this correctly in that he was a very late addition to Jordan's staff after a long search to bring on an assistant coach with a more established resume failed? Shoes is then brought on and I don't recall that the immediate reaction was positive as he had been recently fired as the HC at FDU. He then goes on to demonstrate some recruiting chops although from a timing perspective I am not sure he should be considered as the door opener for anyone prior to this years class. I think his relationship (or his sons) with Sanders develops after Corey is already here or at least committed. From a coaching perspective, it was unclear what any of EJ's assistants were bringing to the table because of the handcuffs EJ seemed to place on them at least on game day. I guess the overall point here is that I have not seen a guys stock climb so high while being associated with such a poor result for the program overall.

Whatever Pikiell decides to do is fine with me. I thought the make up of the staff was contingent on Jay Young getting resolved and I am not sure what bringing Hobbs on means regarding his status. While he was rumored to be in the mix for three HC jobs I don't think they have been filled. He and Pikiell may decided that even if he does not get one of those it is best for him to round out his resume elsewhere. Or he may still be in the mix for the open position and that is what is holding up the filling of the final slot. If there is any chance that Brandin Knight would still consider coming on board then I would certainly investigate that before deciding on some one like Shoes. So at best Shoes looks like a fall back option in case other priorites don't work out. If he does not come back here it will be interesting to see where he lands.

Don't jump on the naysayers here. They have every right based on our shared experience here to believe that this could easily and probably happen. If you put together a team of guys we have lost in the past 20 years we would be at the Big Dance every year.. Let's hope this is in fact an error or oversight because we need every available body we can get...

At some point you need establish and develop a consistent vision, based on what Pikell has spoken about he seems to want to re-establish Rutgers locally (NJ/NY), after all we are the state university of NJ. not having a recruit from NJ in the last 5 years is ridiculous. so perhaps the canary Islands is not a focus for RU. Shoes strengths as a recruiter may not be a great fit for Pikell's vision for the program.

To think Thiam is a huge loss is Rutgers fans overrating Rutgers recruits which we do every year.

My point is that everybody is replaceable.

We hired a HC for $1.6 million/year, brought in Hobbs. Not worried about RU replacing a 190-pound PF.

Also to think he can make an impact in the Big Ten year 1 when nobody's seen him play and all the reports come from either RU, SHU or CBA, who are obviously biased, is wishful thinking.

Right now Knight, Grasso, Shoes and maybe Marshall in play. Rothsteins has deleted the CCSU stuff either temporarily or permanently! I can see one of the above bring named head of recruiting or player development and another as an assistant. Young still in play for three head jobs. Expect at least one new verbal before 4/13.

It wasn't Rothstein who reported it, it was Jeff Goodman:

Marshall is a done deal.

Grasso is in play?

Thiam will need to bulk-up to play in the paint in the Big10.
