to see commit Justin Shorter. Justin is a great kid, my daughter knows him since Kindergarten. He's also a Under Armour All American...

Hope we can get back in good with the Jersey kids soon.

What's needed is for RU to be looked on as a top program, no matter what I think of that school it is looked on as a top program and a traditional power.
Also it's close enough to home ( for Jersey talent) that it's a top choice for NJ HS talent that wants to play close to home, but with a program that they feel will be in major bowl games and possibly the NC Playoffs.
Rutgers isn't considered as good as a FB program by NJ HS Players and coaches and just based on football: a winner.
Also helps the Nits that Franklin is a good recruiter and knows how to stress the positives of becoming a Nittany Lion to the Jersey hs talent he's recruiting.

Any kid and their parents who know football can watch our games and realize the difference in how we do things compared to what winning programs do. If you watched us vs. EMU and you watch basically any other winning program (or even developing program), you can see that our coaching is awful. You can also see we are listless and just sort of searching rather than being prepared, confident and capable. If I had a kid who was a FBS caliber recruit, no way I'd send him to RU.

Wow excited beyond belief, who gives a crap about him. Our we going to get updates if he takes a dump?

Big game for Justin Shorter. 2 catches for 6 yards, LOL. Hope that Franklin came away impressed.
Because they double cover him. So they ran motion and pitched it to him and he ran like a gazelle and gained a lot on running.. Plus he's a blanket cover guy on defense, but then again, haters will hate. He will be a pro one day. Under Armour AA.

I think it's the other way around. Last year no love from Ash, and year before Flood showed little interest
Not sure I believe that. According to his trainer, he was never interested & made it known.

Well now that Ash has added that needed impact recruiter to improve the in state NJ ties so we can keep the Shorters,Owehs,Simons,Hardys, in NJ..oh wait..he still hasnt done that..hiring one ex NJ high school coach and keeping him office bound isnt going to help recruit against Franklin,Myer,Harbaugh or even BC .Tyler Friday hangs in the balance now..

The problem is a catch 22 situation where Rutgers can't attract enough talent to win. This then translates in successive recruiting cycles where top top tier NJ recruits choose schools like Penn State which right now is the best northeast football program. Its all about winning and that is why top recruits and their families keep choosing the same elite schools. As a Rutgers fan its disheartening but reality says its expected behavior.

You attract talent by hiring a known quality HC and staff, one that can sell a vision and connect with kids in this immediate recruiting area. James Franklin came from Vandy and was an asst coach at east Stroudsberg,he had no local ties prior. Developing players and producing wins makes it easier to recruit. Rutgers hired on the cheap again,so its the rinse, repeat cycle until they spend money for a proven power five head coach in two more seasons. You would have thought they learned a lesson after the Flood debacle, but its clear they only cared about saving money, running a football program with the only goal to just have no player incidents, and no real goal of winning games and building the program till the full share of B10 revenue comes around.

A segment of this board brings up facts and justifiable concerns.
You are the reason why we exist...like a bad penny you continue to roll along until the day Rutgers reverses course....it may be 5 years from now but by that time you will be long gone...having a a daily discourse is what makes the world go round just always remember that.

There wasn't any " save money" and that's too bad...perhaps if you actually donated a few shekels to the coffers maybe we could have had that Power 5 star

Of course haters are going to hate, you started a thread about a PSU commit on a Rutgers fan msg board. R U really that f*cking stupid?

Good for him. We're Rutgers fans, why would we give a crap about him. Take this to the dysfunctional psu board. I'm sure they'll be interested there. Why on earth would you post this here? It's not NJVarsity. This really is a douche post, your just trying to stick it in our faces that our best are leaving.

Can you please name me the guy who is a realistic hire that can successfully recruit against Franklin Meyer and Harbaugh? Thanks.

You need to do something like Schiano did when he first arrived: Visit the hell out of local NJ HS schools, whether we were in line to get their kids or not, and let them know we exist.

If you are telling me that Ash has one guy focused on recruting NJ from behind a desk, then this coaching regime doesn't get it. We are back to the same problem we had pre-2004 where Penn State had no problem sweeping to get the best NJ kids leaving us with the table scraps. And we recruit based on that reality. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Schiano. He can't out recruit them but he can recruit on par with Maryland.

Schiano. He can't out recruit them but he can recruit on par with Maryland.
but at first had to use his Florida connections to get the Fla talent that Miami, FSU & Florida didn't go after.
Schiano had to build up the RU FB program from the outside at first because NJ HS FB HCs weren't recommending their talent to consider Rutgers anything more than a back-up school.
It took a few years for Greg to make RU FB respectable enough for the NJ HS coaching fraternity to consider the Rutgers FB program respectable enough so they would advise their more talented players Rutgers was worth considering.

Now Ash has the same problem Schiano had when he fiorst arrived, NJ HS FB coaches don't look on RU FB as a first option program that they feel their talented players should put in the list of top choices when deciding what school to attend.
The last couple of years put RU back into a FB program that isn't well respected and negative press doesn't help recruit local talent either.
