Joe Paterno Statue

Earlier in the thread some asked "Are they still going to put up the statue after this?". This link provides some more detail on it.

There are some delusional Paterno supporters who think the statue is going back up and the university is going to honor Paterno in some way. Ain't gonna happen. When the 1976 allegation first came up a month or so ago, President Barron was very precise in how he worded his statement. Some Paterno supporters saw it as some type of huge win that Barron made a statement. Barron stated the obvious without saying much of anything. IMO it was done to simply keep the money rolling in.

I hope you are right. But I was pretty sure the NCAA would not go completely gutless and give back the 409.

I think Barron is playing a double game. When the NCAA, B1G, Middle States are around he talks about all the progress they have made with compliance and moving forward.

He offers dog whistles to the crazies trying to keep them at bay. Attacks on the media and such that feed into the conspiracy wing nuts. Again I hope you are right that Barron in the end is going to give them the cold shoulder. But trying to placate fanatics with "reasonable" responses is a slippery slope. They are never satisfied.

In fairness to Barron, I thought his statement was right on and actually pretty smart. He stood up for the University on something that was pretty easy to stand up for. Just keep that money rollin' in.

That's interesting. How big was the basket? How many balls would it hold?
As I recall, about a half dozen. Funny as hell. Really Veeck-ian.

Favorite Bill Veeck story. He lost part of one leg (lower part as I recall) in WWII, and had a wooden prosthesis. A reporter once commented on how much he had accomplished given that he was handicapped. Veeck's reply: "I'm not handicapped, &^%#*, I'm crippled." He wasn't real big on being PC.
