Jonathan Taylor decomits

F him. tired of being a placeholder. I hope one day we get to the point where we over recruit these kids and tell them..ah. never mind. we found somebody better. See ya.
Is this not one of the things we fault Harbaugh for?

I was agreeing with you. Tom is in the pros but isn't really playing. Had he stayed at RU I have to believe he would've ended up a much higher draft pick.

Well my memory could be wrong but (from what I remember) he was QB when we had (sophomore year?) a really really bad line (year after AD when pro early?). I vaguely remember he got hurt/or hit bad more than once (maybe even pulled after playing worse after being hit) that Dad was unhappy and convinced him to leave RU.

Savage was a 4-5 star QB recruit and stuck with RU through the process. Arguably RUs best QB ever though Id give the edge to Brian Fortay (who killed his reputation and career with his ego/Miami lawsuit) who I witnessed change a few outcomes for RU).

I was never that mad about Savage because he gave RU a shot but ran into bad luck with the O-Line. He did what he did, likely, to avoid permanent injury and maximize his chances at the pros where he has succeeded after a lot of drama/bad luck. At one point, I remember, he wanted to transfer back to RU but our then QB (Nova? Teel?) was playing fairly well and believe Savage would have lost a year transferring back.

Gonna happen until we start to win under the Ash Regime. Right now the choice is stay home with a 2-6 Rutgers and a brand new staff or go play with another team with a bigger name and a better record.

First Ash has to rebuild to the point where we have a winning program. Then we have to win enough to become a bigger name. It takes a special kind of commit right now to see what's building here. A Brian Leonard type of commit.

When we can beat the Penn States and the Wisconsins it'll be a lot easier to recruit, and NJ kids will have a much harder decision to make when the Nits and Badgers come calling.

It's coming. Recruits turned down Tennessee, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, LSU, Auburn and USC when Schiano was on the top of his game. It'll happen again. Right now we have to restock the cupboard.

I never saw Fortay, but I think Savage would've easily been the best. Schiano tried to convince him to stay even admitting he made a mistake trying to change the offense to the Spread and was going to change it back to Pro Style the next year but Tom left anyway.

Tom wanted to come back but wasn't granted an exception by the NCAA so he would've lost another year of eligibility.

Hey, come on guys, we're Rutgers fans, the most underzealous fans on the Rivals network. Let's wish the kid well, hope that he becomes an All-American and not only helps his team to beat us, but that he in turn helps lure future Jersey recruits to wherever he winds up.

Best wishes, Jon, and we appreciate the fact that at least for a few months, you may have actually wanted to come to RU.

LOL.

Tom may well have been the best technically but while he played for RU I never saw a QB who could basically single handedly win a game. I remember a game against Dook at the Meadowlands (ironically don't remember the Dook doctors who had tix in front of me) where RU was getting beat by Dook by 14 or so heading into the 4th at the Meadowlands. Their DB Ray Farmer? was jawing and I (sitting 2nd row from the field in my season tix) yelled back that like Carolina (they had just come back and beat Dook the week before in the 4th) Fortay was going to lead us back and that Dook was going to lose. Funny thing was that I KNEW Fortay would lead RU back. With the help of stellar D Fortay-not nervous whatsoever calmly led RU on 3 straight scoring drives. I believe we won by at least 7. Fortay just used to look SO poised-looked like Redford in "The Natural" in the pocket.

Fortay's decision to play for Miami over RU (though Dick Anderson? was known for avoiding spending much or any time with topo recruits) likely cost him a pro career. Hs lawsuit against Miami essentially had him banned from the pros. Watching Fortay in that college all star game where he had three straight fumbles (seemingly set up by an OL-line that refused to protect him) had the feel of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry and gang would know and watch something go bad and say/wince "That's too bad!"...

Clearly he did otherwise he wouldn't have committed in the first place. This is a big loss for us, kid is a beast. Having an attitude like that isn't gonna help get him back.
He has always been looking for "bigger" offers. Probably committed to RU to save his place in case a "bigger" offers never came

Starting shortly? You think he's going to jump Osweiler who they just paid a ton of money?

Should be starting shortly. I have no idea if management will keep that from happening but on merit alone he deserves it dating back to two preseasons ago.

I hope when he gets to Pedstate or wherever he's going his girlfriend is f'ing Lance Thomas!

MO

I'm getting old and forget stuff but I remember working out (and posting here) that I worked out I think with Lance's half brother or cousin. Wasn't it with Lance, Lance wanted (Junior year I heard Arizona) to come to RU and was ready to sign-until Dook became interested and Mommy basically forced him on the plane to RDU and told him he was attending Dook instead of Rutgers. Then if I'm correct Dook just happened to find a coaching job for his cousin and other jobs for other relatives. Hate Dook but can't all blame Lance as he was pushed away, bribed and Dook is as good all around school as probably any (besides the fact its a stress factory and the campus could be renamed "Temple Dook for The Spoiled Of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania-actually looked up 1-2 guys 3 years behind me in high school not even knowing them personalty based on family attendance) with as nice a campus as any with as good a coach as any.

I'd personally change Lance Thomas to "Mante Teo's" girlfriend. NOW THAT would be embarrassing...

Why don't coaches decommit the kids if they go visit another school after making any kind of commitment? This makes Ash look incompetent.

The career of Fortay was a bit up and down, certainly not a, no brainer, this guy starts career.....

He was constantly in a battle to be the starter since we also had RAy Lucas who brought a different skill
Set himself, with his ups and downs..... overall Fortay got the majority of the reps..... if you look at the 92 season Fortay completed 50% of his passes, 16 Tds, but 16 ints to boot.

I believe Fortays very first start was against BC away, and it was obvious early in the game that RU had a long way to go before being a good team, and Fortay needing time himself to lead a team.

fortay just wasn't good enough for the NFL, period. When you consider that Ken Dorsey, a guy with a national championship ring, and played in another national championship, hardly if ever saw the NFL field, it speaks volumes about how difficult it is to make it in the NFL.

I never thought about him as a NFL player, just reflecting on his RU career..... I am pretty sure he thought he could make the NFL coming out of high school and going to Miami.... if
I remember correctly, many observers thought he performed best in his first spring game at Miami, but did not become the starter.

Keep it classy Rutgers fans...i cannot believe the butt hurt over one lost recruit, it happens to all programs...really someone is saying a high school kid is "selfish" seriously? Get a life...

Where is the poster calling for a "draft" of high schoolers so kids no longer have a choice where they want to spend their next 4 years

up to current staff to win games ,at least two down the stretch and keep the class.
These are 18 year old kids being negatively recruited now by other schools saying.."look how bad Rutgers is..no wins in B10..why go there"?..
we have rookie first time head coaches as our staff ,none with a previous power five resume as head coaches also learning on the job.. but now its up to them to step it up down the stretch with what they got, show improvement and win two games.. that will keep the class together.
Note; taking the Flood approach.."oh well he was top rated in state of new jersey at his postion, and if he decomitts ..we will go find someone else who wants to be here'" that approach got us where we are today .at the bottom..thats not the answer to rebuilding the program

Here we go again! And Ash said at the TD Club meeting no commits will decommit from the class.

To all of those people attacking Taylor, get a life. We are not a more attractive destination than Wisconsin right now, period. This is not an easy decision for a 17/18 year old when you have people around you trying to influence you. Wisconsin has a better athletic program with better support and better academics.

Good luck to him. He would have killed it in our offense but its not like he committed to Syracuse.

A rough start to there Ash regime, but he has the hallmarks of a good coach. He's meticulous and a hard worker. I like that when something doesn't work, he'll immediately change it up (e.g., QB). With the right QB, RU could have 3 more wins this year.

What RU offers for Jersey guys is -- not only playing in your home state -- but early playing time. No matter where a guy is from, they'll have a chance to get on the field earlier. This appeals to recruits.

Plus, remember, everybody loses guys, even Ohio St. and Alabama.

At the end of the year, coaches will be fired, and other coaches will leave a team to move up, and that will make those recruits vulnerable.

A decommit is never good, but it's hardly the end of a program. It makes me appreciate more the guys who stay committed.

A rough start that was expected.

Was wondering how long before somebody pointed this out. I'm not sure how anyone can even engage a guy who thinks like that and then is actually stupid enough to post it in black and white.

Of course, he also posted that he was getting old and forgets stuff, so what can you expect (I'm an old, white guy myself, lol).

Early playing time doesn't apply to the current class, with Martin, Hicks and Sneed all getting carrie next season

Hate that we lose a kid but a high school senior changes his mind and this board is going to rip him, ridiculous. Love that the students retain some power over their own future. Shows that staff had a good eye for talent too.

Dude seriously? Did you ever see your dysfunctional board when you have a decommit? You guys are passing around the torches and handing out the pitch forks ready to march down to Johnny recruit's house and perform mass murder. You just nailed the Pot calling the Kettle black saying with this post.

I've not seen this level of butt hurt on the bwi board...then again we haven't had many decommits of late...and a majority of the negative comments are regarding ND and Michigan because they flip out recruits and then tell them they don't have room once they recruit other 5 star kids...if you can show me some posts where posters are calling kids selfish and telling them to "f off" I'll certainly take back my words

The only one I recall is the kicker last year that flipped to MeatChicken but only because he made that silly video getting off the plane
