A 14-2 destruction doesn’t sound like a flukey loss or like he got caught by a funky move or something… he’s been treading downhill ever since he was dubbed the next big thing and lost to Munoz… the results keep getting more inconsistent and now getting beat up by nobodies.. this “hope he bounces back” talk never works.. he’s cooked he needa break or something idk.. hope he can correct it but idk.. dang
Agree 100%. This isnt like losing to a Ruth or someone 1/2 way decent in a fluky way. This is a total destruction by a nobody. Its not a loss where you say losses happen. And one thing if score was 7-6 or something but 14-2 is a romp.

I just watched the match and here is what happened:

Went for an inside trip, didn’t get good leverage and ended up underneath and gave up the takedown as the period expired. He wins this position more often than not but has trouble here against stronger opponents. Down 3-0

Started the period on top and had a cradle locked up, tried to roll him over but over rotated a bit and ended up on his butt. Here is where he should have let it go to maintain/improve his position but he stayed with it unfortunately. He was in a bad position on his butt so Walsh was able to get the reversal and 4 back points quite easily. This is a situation where he needs understand risk vs reward and realize everything doesn’t need to be a home run. Mental mistake. Down 9-0.

He got a reversal after a few but once again went for a cradle (now he’s pressing to get big points to get back in the match) but couldn’t finish it either and ended up in another bad position on his bitt and gave up a reversal of his own. Down 11-2.

In the 3rd attempted a double leg but couldn’t finish. Walsh held his own and went out of bounds.

After another tie up, he almost had Walsh on his back for a 3rd time but he couldn’t finish after a tough fight by Walsh once again. After this attempt, he pretty much gave up on the match and Walsh got the last 3 with little resistance. Down 14-2 as time expired.

It wasn’t like Soldano got dominated on his feet, giving up TD after TD. He was slightly off his game and literally all of Walsh’s points came off Soldanos failed attempts and some good defense/fight on his part. He looked stronger than Soldano as well and that was the difference. Not excusing his performance but he was position to win this match multiple times but couldn’t execute and a stronger/longer opponent was able to take advantage unfortunately.

Soldano looks too small for the weight and I’m not sure how much he is cutting, but he looks like he belongs at 174.

Thanks for recap and seems like nothing has changed. He's an all or nothing wrestler with many WTF moments which isnt sustainable at this level. Was hoping working with Labriola would get him to be more fundamental but sounds like thats not happening. Every year we say hes too small or not strong enough for 184 but nothing changes.

Ford lost a tough one. Won his 1st match and was up 4-2 with 25 secs left to Derek Fields, an NCAA qualifier from NC St but lost 7-4 in last 20 secs or so

Here's some clips of the Soldano match

He looks weak and small just like last year. Every position he got muscled out of. Third year in the program and he's not any stronger.

He’s also like 5-7. He’s just way too small to go 184, looks like a ‘65 lber.
Absolutely. He is noticeably shorter and overall smaller than nearly all of his opponents. Ideally he would have RS this season and get down to 174 after Turley leaves.

To be fair Iowa’s 184 pounder, Arnold, is around 5’7 but big diff is he’s jacked n built like a pitbull.. Soldano is too small for 84 n looking scrawnier.. he lacks too much strength to do his funky moves and it clearly shows it when he’s getting outmuscled by nobodies.. maybe he can thrive at 74.. miss the electrifying Soldano..

Tough draw for Hermes having two AAs in his pool.
Was hoping they would be closer matches tho.. thought his defense would be stingier.. he took a pretty good wrestler, a previous AA, last year into OT if I’m not mistaken..

He’s another one that looks undersized. I thought he’d be a 125 lifer but I think he’s trying to find the easiest path to finding a spot in the lineup. He wrestled at like 113 and 106 in high school. He is probably another year away from being a full sized 141.

Soldano and Ruth tied at 2 as we head to SV. Soldano got high/sloppy on his ride and gave up the reversal but was able to get a quick escape.

Soldano wins in SV! Ruth tried to go upper body on him and they got into a 50:50 position with Soldano coming out on top to get the fall!

I’m pretty sure he wins the pool as well by knocking off the AA from last year.
If I'm not mistaken Ruth also got upset by the Binghamton wrestler(2-0) in the dual. He's going to drop like a stone in the rankings.

Ruth did get upset by Binghamton, he’s on his own lil slump, d1 wrestling is hard! So happy for Soldano that he was able to bounce back from the earlier loss, wow LFG!!
Just wish he would redshirt and go a weight he's more suited for. I can't see him doing anything meaningful at NCAA's at 184. In the video he had the moves and simply got outmuscled from them. At 174 those moves he's losing out on do to sheer strength would suddenly start working.

Yeah, agreed I been saying this all forum after he loss to the Harvard kid and then Soldano goes and beats Ruth.. lol. I really didn’t think he had a chance..

I was literally laughing at mandfense’s comment “Knowing Soldano, he'll rebound against Ruth next”… 😳😂🔥🔥

Soldano is basically Turley with a lower floor and higher ceiling. Turley got hot one year to an AA. Soldano with the right draw can do the same. He can also lose to subpar wrestlers. Never no what you’re going to get which definitely makes him exciting to watch. Not always a good thing in practicality though.

Couple Rumson kids pulling off upsets. If you go through that Twitter feed, you’ll see a lot of NJ high school alums pulling off some upsets all day.

What were the scores? Great experience though.
He lost 17-2 to Composto, got pinned by Ryan Jack and lost 5-2 to Illinois depth guy Baysingar. Maybe he is still a little small for 141, but some on here over rate him because of his close loss to Bartlett....he is around 500 in career so far. You need to beat top 50 wrestlers, not lose close matches to top 50 wrestlers.

Final: Reece Heller (Pitt) M FOR Brian Soldano (Rutgers)

Anyone know why Soldano M For his finals match vs Heller???
