Just wondering whose our 3rd PG

My point is that doing both is not optimal. If someone else can bring the ball up we’re better off. We need Geo on the court as much as possible and having both responsibilities will drain him.

It is what point guards do.

A point guard traditionally does both. I think the colle game is moving away from that. If Geo is pressured fc he will have to work hard. I’m not talking a fc press, I’m talking tough man d. Geo isn’t explosive enough to shake a defender with a single crossover. I hope there is someone else on the roster who can handle or share that responsibility. We need Geo to have the ball in the half court.

I think we need at least two PG but we need at least three legit ball handlers. Not sure we have that right now. Geo is the only proven player that could bring the ball up against anyone. That second guy is a question, Caleb appears to have the skill (he's actually the frosh I'm most excited about) but we'll see when the games begin.

Next year we seem in much better shape there but for this year, an injury or two could mean big trouble. Hopefully Kiss can be that guy but from his tape he doesn't look like a PG.

So you don't think Geo is going to bring the ball up the court? Or do you think he's not going to run the offense then?

I’m still here for one more time:

We need Geo on the floor for as many minutes as possible. He’s the team leader and the best guy by far to run our half court offense. Where can we relieve some pressure from him? I’m hoping that
MM, Caleb, or Peter can handle well enough to bring the ball up against pressure. If Geo is doing both, getting dogged all game and running the offense, he’s on the floor for fewer minutes. That is all.

It's one thing to be concerned about how many minutes an important player is on the court. I get that.

But if you are going to be the point guard, then you are the primary ball handler and you get the team into it's offense. There will be times that another player brings the ball up court -- such as in a secondary break -- but when you play the point, you know what you signed up for.

Hell, I loved it. I would run up to a teammate in the back court and practically take the ball from him if I had to because I was the point guard and I had a "give me the ball so I can get it up court and call out the play" mindset.

Pressure defense? No problem, they're not stealing it from me so "give me the ball so I can get it up court and call out the play."

Legit concern. They can happen in bunches, even in the offseason.

I was at a team's practice today and here's what they're dealing with:

--A sophomore guard (who made all-freshman team last season) was practicing for the first time all week due to a back issue that "locked him up" over the weekend.

-- A sophomore forward who is back on the court after hyper-extending his elbow diving for a loose ball. Missed four weeks on court action.

-- A senior small forward jammed his foot into the heel of a teammate last week and is still not 100 percent due to lingering pain in one of his toes.

(All three of the above players are expected to be starters. Two of them are expected to be the teams top two scorers).

-- A sophomore forward is in the concussion protocol (fortunately he is a sit-out transfer).

--A freshman guard has been sidelined for six weeks with a fracture in his left foot. Hopes to be cleared for basketball activities when he gets examined on Monday.

Kind of sobering.

Well this isn't good.

I would think Peter Kiss is the third PG. I'll try and ask Pikiell tomorrow at Media Day.

1 Baker 2 McConnell.

If we have to go to 3, the team is going to have bigger problems. I am sure if need be Kiss could handle some of the ball. Right now, primary ball handlers will be the two above.
