Ken Niumatalolo

John Doc Holliday has a winning record as a head coach , last 3 years 10-4, 13-1, 9-4 and also Brohn of Western Kentucky.

How big is the jump from triple option to the spread? Hey this isn't nuclear physics. I bet Coach Ken has the brains to make that leap. All he needs is the right asst. coaches..

Check this chart out. Navy is one of the best when it comes to success vs. recruiting level

I think I would rather have Willie Fritz - Georgia Southern. More of a shotgun option without cut blocks.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Fritz

154-68 as a college head coach
17-6 as a D1 coach
14-1 in first two years in the sun belt conference (GSU was a FCS team in 2013).

Went undefeated in Sun Belt Conference in 2014 with a FCS level roster in GSU first year in FBS. Played NCstate and GA tech very close in 2014. Destroyed coach fleck's WMU team this year and took Georgia to overtime this year at Georgia.

Two time national coach of the year in FCS with Sam Houston State.

Runs a spread option / pistol offense that is fun to watch. Controls time of possession and has a defense that is aggressive and also fun to watch. He might be our best option to run the football and play defense in the b10. This style of play may be best for us as underdogs and also to maximize NJ recruits in the 10-25 level.

No thank you. We would not have an easier time recruiting for that system, and once the teams in our division get used to defending the triple option from playing against it a few years in a row plus have better athletes than our team, that's the end of that. Look at Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech: 2-5 in bowl games there, with a big win over Mississippi State last season (his 2nd very strong GT team in 8 seasons) and a 21-7 win over a bad Lane Kiffin coached USC.

Plus when the Niumatalolo regime ends, your team is built around option guys, meaning it would take added time to switch to either a spread or pro-style offense.

You want a coach to bring in an offense he has never coached, and for all you know may not like, to a team that has never run it? Sounds like a real formula for success in 2016 along with all the recruiting benefits that would go with it for the 2017 class.

We would become the GaTech of the B1G. Haven't checked their record under PJ .Good for RU?Don't know.

he may not be interested in leaving Navy. His career is basically Hawaii and then Navy. At Navy he is not winning national titles but has a pretty secure job. His Wiki says he is a mormon so material wealth may not be at the top of his list for getting a raise.

Some people just detest the triple option, but I've kept my eye on Coach Ken for awhile now.

I just want wins. Don't care how we get there.

Yes,
The only thing more annoying than focusing on the coach's current offensive scheme as a qualifier for our job is focusing on the entertainment value of the offense as a differentiation.
My concern with hiring this guy is less about his system, if we are hiring coaches so narrow minded that they could not adapt to new circumstances we got a problem. I'm not sure his experience in recruiting guys good enough to get into the academy that happen to play football is going to help us recruit the players we need to compete in the B1G-East. You can't learn how to sell these sorts of kids out of a playbook.

I'd bet it would be far more difficult selling tickets to see a team that plays the triple option. Wins are great, but we've had winning teams in Jersey fail to excite crowds because of their style of play (see the Devils during the Trap Era).

Entertainment value is always a consideration.

Dr. Gross at Syracuse bet bringing entertaining opponents to the Meadowlands would draw flocks of NYC area based 'Cuse alumni to Met Life. I'm guessing now they would have preferred to have a few more programmed wins.

No thanks, for all the reasons already mentioned. But at if he did come here, at least we could say we have a big name coach at RU.

why isn't he even being mentioned?

He is a great coach and would win at Rutgers, because NO ONE wants to play against the triple option.

Problem is in NYC market do you really want to run the ball 85% of the time. That won't sell tickets.

So if Coach Ken, a coach who:
*has been as consistent as any coach can be in college football
*who runs a smash mouth offense that many of us here want, and that can be spread out through 6 different players on the field
*who's record and experience would command respect as soon as he steps into a meeting, function, practice, etc
*a coach who will have Rutgers players prepared to compete and ready to go vs Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, etc instead of having players look towards the NFL,
*someone whonwill not embarass the university...

expressed interest in coaching for Rutgers, you would turn him down because his offense won't sell tickets? But half this board wants a coach who forced 4, 5 star players to play a 2, 3 star read and react defense and a coach who kept his best friend when 99% of humanity thought otherwise...

BTW, the NY market will buy tickets for a team who is consistently winning 8, 9 games in the B1G. I'm hoping that it would be MORE Rutgers than Penn State.

It's 2015....who wants a coach that runs the Triple Option ?
People would complain if it was the June Jones Run and Shoot, Mike Leach Air Raid. Even the Chip Kelly Oregon Offense is a gimmick offense. What has the Pro Style offense has gotten Rutgers since 2005?

Oh and both those losses, they had a chance to beat Florida State at the end.

I love the triple option-i think it's exciting.
I hate playing againts it though because it's nerve racking

When people talk about FAST BREAK FOOTBALL, this comes to mind more than a passing offense. You got the QB running the ball like a point guard with the slot back running next to him on a fast break. Pitch key decides who goes in for the lay up most of the time. Or you can go to the big man on the inside, the FB. Or if the defense is worried about the run game, you can go for the alley oop with the play action to the wide out.

Nothing sweeter than this IMO.

Coach Ken loves coaching the mids and the culture that exists in Annapolis and is paid very well for doing it. I love watching the triple option especially as it is executed by Navy. He is not coming here

Problem is you need a qb that can read defenses and run. Not sure RU has the former nor the latter.
