Rutgers ' spplications rise over 90%

That’s cool you can apply to the business school right out of high school. I’m so old now I remember when you got into Rutgers college and had to apply to the business school as a student during your sophomore year. Lots of kids I knew became Econ majors because they didn’t have a high enough GPA for the business school. I just got in my then skin of my teeth. Too much partying freshman year almost ruined me.

Yep. Econ was the de facto safety major at Rutgers for kids who wanted to major in something business related but couldn't get into RBS.

Rutgers publishes copious data going back 20+ years on applications, admissions, and enrollment yield. In recent years, roughly 65% of New Brunswick first year applicants have been admitted and around 25% of admitted applicants have enrolled.

The good news is the trend in applicants is up. Why the numbers bounce around each year is difficult to pinpoint. For example, applications plunged in 2003 and spiked in 2015 and 2018. Hard to explain why. In 2018, Rutgers football went 1-11 yet applications surged.

Year, Rutgers New Brunswick First Year Applications, Annual Change

A good thing about going to a place like RU is that its not going to close.
That might sound too dire but colleges are closing at rate of one a week and the pace is accelerating.
Colleges can lose accreditation for shaky finances.

"About one university or college per week so far this year, on average, has announced that it will close or merge. That’s up from a little more than two a month last year, according to the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, or SHEEO.

So many colleges are folding that some students who moved from one to another have now found that their new school will also close, often with little or no warning. "

SUNY is over 160 million in debt and some colleges will crash

"“Gov. Hochul’s goal of revitalizing SUNY and making it the best public higher education system in the nation cannot happen when all but six of its campuses are in serious financial jeopardy,"

Oswego, Fredonia, Buffalo St, Potsdam, SUNY Maritime in trouble - "A recent SUNY report indicates that, if current expense and revenue trends persist, the system will face an annual budget shortfall of over $1 billion in 10 years.

ouch. something tells me that if I were a person of color I'd even disgust you more. true ?

but am just asking how the metrics are calculated. is that not a legit question ? if someone doesn't get into any of his/her three choices, does that count as three rejections ? or is a Y/N for unique applicants ?

Is it 78,000 unique applicants ? or is that the sum of applications to each of the schools that applicants check on their applications ?
His response to you was dumb and unwarranted. You bringing up race for no reason is even worse. This isn’t your Penn State board

Shrllby65 is just bsing you. Everything he posts on these boards is for the sole purpose of denigrating RU. Trying to dismiss the clear information about 78000 apps is merely an.attempt to say-- it can't be true ,it's Rutgers. Yes he's an a hole.

Insulting. I graduated from RC with enough credits for either a Business Admin or Eco degree but chose Eco. I don't think I even knew about the RBS option but then again I was working my ass off to pay for the education.

That’s great Doug.

But you have to admit there is some truth to what @bigmatt718 said. Even if you don’t agree with it.

Some bigger public schools are facing major problems as well like WVU that cut all language programs and math. But yes, thankfully everyone from residents to the state gov are now appreciating and supporting RU. It's been a lot of positive changes across the board we can be thankful for.

New Brunswick is far more appealing than it was when I went to school. The housing stocks on College Avenue, Busch, and Livingston have significantly improved in recent years. Tillet (Toilet) used to be a trash dining hall. Now it’s one of the best.
Tillet had the better turkey pot pie and casino night in the 90s.

Set for life ? Your obese and can’t afford the co pays for Ozenpic just last week? Is that set for life ?

WTF is wrong with you?

Now you have moved from taking shots at someone’s dead Mother to this?

What a sad individual you are
That’s what he said last week in that thread. He said he was waiting for the price to come down so that he can afford the co pay. I’m asking him a question because set at 55 and can’t afford ozempic makes no sense. I never took a shot at anyone’s mother that’s clearly your interpretation of it.

RBS didn't exist back then.

Hey asshat. That's not what I said. I said I was concerned about having to pay $6k for it vs. $2k because they couldn't fill. a 3 month supply but only month to month. Being smart with your assets is how you build wealth dipshit.
Affordability and willingness are two diff things moron.
I also said I wasn't diabetic and my A1C was just beginning to creep up. So depending $6 just to lose weight was a consideration.

Btw.. to get you up to speed the new Medicare Part D drug law went into effect Jan 1 capping expenses at $2k so SUCK IT.

Good luck losing weight being obese must suck.

Daughter just got accepted into the pharmacy program today! Glad this is over as the rest of schools she applied to made a decision more than a month ago. Hopefully son can follow suit in a few years if he can take care of business on the field.

A SUNY college president said that for every 100 student decline in attendance the college loses $1 million.
A central fact in the attendance decline is the male to female ratio - boys have been avoiding college.
SUNY New Paltz is 65% female and so are other SUNY colleges.

Of course college debt has scared people off but not the women so much.
The boys get worn by the institutionalized repression where they are made inferior people causing everyone else's problems.
College themselves were having "justice committees" where students (boys) get unofficially charged with all sorts of things.
A whole area of legal defense has sprung-up because of this.

Women meanwhile are often appointed cosmic heroes just because they are women.
I saw a GEICO site where they bragged they hired 67% women in the past year.
A look at LA fire situation shows who is getting hired and its a hostile agenda by hostile bureaucracies (see NC FEMA) .

The Male Enrollment Crisis

"Men make up just over half of the 18- to 24-year-olds in America, but they’re vastly outnumbered in the nation’s colleges. In the spring of 2021, men represented just 40.5 percent of undergraduate students — an all-time low — as the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated and amplified a trend that’s been building for 40 years."

I was reading about how Sonoma State College (DII) just dropped all sports and is closing departments.
A big criticism is the college knew what they would do but waited until term started so kids couldn't bail.

"The following programs are identified for elimination by the University: Administrative Services Credential in ELSE; Art History BA; Art Studio BFA; Dance BA; Earth and Environmental Sciences BA; Economics BA; Education Leadership MA; English MA; French BA; Geology BS; German Minor; Global Studies BA; History MA; Interdisciplinary Studies BA; Interdisciplinary Studies MA; Philosophy BA; Physical Science BA; Physics BA; Physics BS; Public Administration MPA; Spanish MA; Theatre Arts BA; Women and Gender Studies BA. "

I don't think people realize just how bad off a lot of colleges are. People need to check a college's finances/enrollment. before going in blind. Colleges were building-up their college infrastructure like crazy and abusing heck out of financial aid/loans - all while chasing after some students and dismissing others (and a lot of the demographics being recruited didn't stick).

Will the ranking go even higher?

Maybe the male only represents only 40.5% of undergraduate since they took people advise and decided on a trade like plumbing, electrician or construction.

Mostly true, NY State really pushed Brutalist architecture in the 60s.
Lots of dorms and libraries got built for boomers during college years
But some schools are in nice locations and saw some quality building projects the past decade or so

Upstate colleges like New Paltz (The Gunks) and Brockport (Erie Canal) are in charming Victorian towns.
Some colleges founded in 1820s-30s have large, scenic main buildings with cupolas.
All people need are bicycles/sneakers to get around.
Autumns in NY are particularly beautiful due to most variety of trees and colors

Which US state has the best fall foliage?

New York State typically ranks highest for fall colors often followed by other Eastern Seaboard states such as Vermont. Others frequently listed include Oregon, Utah, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Admissions is a billion dollar industry. Crazy money and effort spent to increase applications (overall, don’t know what RU spends). RU finally got smart last year and got on board with common app. Applications grew tremendously last year alone. Increases in applications drives an inverse impact on acceptance rate. Lower acceptance rate drives up perception of the university. Schools with lower acceptance rates are better schools, right? Kids used to apply to a couple schools….now they apply to 8, 10, more. It’s a total game with perception being the prize. Common application was the best move RU could have made…it’s already laid off.

Try 20-25. Especially if they get denied from a school early on. They just apply anywhere

20+ wasn’t the normal when my oldest went through the process last year. But it doesn’t surprise me. Most kids (and parents) always get the reach, target reach and safety schools wrong. In reality, their idea of reach schools are no chance schools and target reach are really reach schools. One big reason is that they base it on schools published stats. But if you are from NJ, you need to be at the upper end to have a chance.

RBS did not have an undergrad school until the mid 80s.
When I entered Rutgers college in ‘83 all students wanting a business oriented degree became Econ majors
well that explains that then. Appreciate the facts here. I always thought getting a Eco degree from then Rutgers College was a darn fine field and achievement. Profs like JJ and Sidney Simon were the real deal.
