Hope no program takes that POS in... Curious as to those who have fully supported ray rice have to say, saying "he made a mistake, everybody does" does that apply to Nelson too?
He was a Scarlet Knight at the time. He had spent the semester at RU and had practiced with the team. Everything is not a RU conspiracy .Dude never played a down here. He was a transfer in paper only, but as usual the media reports him as a Rutgers QB. He was recruited to play QB, he was let go to play courtroom.
Both "men" were at fault but as details emerged Nelson looked much better then initially reported. I'd bet a good majority of people on this board were involved in drunk fights while in college........All sides are culpable here, but I feel bad for Kolstad. And nothing justifies kicking an unconscious man in the head in the context of a bar fight. Mr. Nelson really comes off poorly, too.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, so I'll assume that was directed at others. Practicing with the team as a transfer student is a different thing than being a starter, so when it's reported that "the Rutgers QB was arrested..." or some variation thereof, it's disingenuous. He hadn't taken a snap at RU, had been here a semester, and in certain media outlets was being represented as our QB. Let's not pretend that the Ledger, for instance, won't take advantage of a story like this to slam RU.He was a Scarlet Knight at the time. The article was filed in Minnesota by a writer based in Oregon. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't bother to check on how many starts Nelson had for Rutgers. If it was a local writer that might be different.I'm not a conspiracy theorist, so I'll assume that was directed at others. Because it was more noteworthy and equally true t say something like "former University of Minnesota QB who recently had transferred to Rutgers..".\"According to court documents, Philip Nelson, then a 20-year-old quarterback at Rutgers..."
How can anyone possibly take offense at that?

I agree...and Nelson's plea/sentence reflects that. It's a shame that you can't hit a button and erase the night for everyone.

Seems to be a fair and balanced article. Some quotes:
"Among those who wrote on Nelson's behalf were his former Mankato West football coach, an academic adviser at Rutgers, . . . "
"Philip Nelson could have been Rutgers' starting quarterback this coming year. He transferred there in January 2014 after playing two seasons at Minnesota, where he started 16 games."
