Kyle Monangai for the Heisman Trophy? Start the campaign, Rutgers

We just need to have a big win on a national stage. Whether that is Friday night on FOX vs Washington or if we’re on another national broadcast network for another game:..and we win. That’s when he’ll get consideration
It's starts next Friday. For the team and for Kyle. Win on the road and move on to the next game!

Dude - just stop. Gavin punched 6 one yard TDs into the end zone - not all of them on his first try - but who cares? He got the job done. Fantastic.

In the past 2 games, Kyle punched in one from the 3, one from the 2, and 2 from from 1. He’s 4 for 4. Raymond also punched one in Saturday from the one. So our current group of RBs are 5 for 5 on those. For now, the argument that we needed to use Gavin instead of our RBs to collect those TDs looks ridiculous.
It is fun to analyse and compare the backs
These comparisons are mostly playing lesser teams

RU has consistently had issues punching it in against the better big ten teams, imo
We had a better chance of a td on a longer play, than starting first and goal from the seven, and running it in from there
This was not the fault of the backs

Yes, the thought of the a Washington game was there, it would start those that vote, to take some notice

Wimsatt isn’t a back and he didn’t start from the 7. He started at the 1 yard line with either a fresh set of downs or at worst second down on all 6 of those TDs. One of those runs was against Indiana who beat Akron by 2 in OT last year. Another was in garbage time against Maryland’s scrubs. 2 more were against a depleted Miami D.

Perhaps you can prove me wrong, but I can’t recall any situation in recent memory where we failed to punch the ball through in that situation (assuming 3+ straight rush attempts to try to pick up only one yard) absent a holding penalty (which would have nothing to do with whether the QB keeps the ball or hands off to a RB).

Part of the reason Wimsatt scored is that Monangai was blocking. Easier to score with 10 guys blocking than 9.

Hopefully we can replace Wimsatts ease of scoring with Athan throwing the fade to Strong, Duff, and Toure.

Huh? We’ve had no trouble scoring so far by handing off to the RBs and we would’ve had no trouble doing the same thing last year with a fresh set of downs from the 1. Kyle almost always falls forward. The media discusses this all the time.

None of those 6 tush push TDs were against OSU types. It was Indiana, Miami (missing a big chunk of their roster), and Maryland (one of two in garbage time). To say that was the only way we could’ve found the end zone on the ground is a major reach.

There is no reason not to promote Kyle for the Heisman right now, no matter how unlikely. The press is good for the program and I would expect some of BTN commentators will happily jump on board to say good things, and probably even some of the national guys. VT does not look good against the run, so KM has a good chance for another big game in two weeks. Until he has one or two less productive games and one or more of the QBs start to separate themselves, we should be hyping him up.
yup, someone said bad publicity is better than no publicity. km success is shining a light on our program, and will be getting college fb fans see what all the fuss is about.........this is a home run for ru.

Should be no excuse of why he shouldn’t be in NYC if he has the season he had last year. None. He should be the obligatory non QB guy at the ceremony.

He deserves attention and is one of the top RBs in the country, but there is no way he will get invited to NYC without close to doubling his output from last year. The team would also need to win big.

As long as his production stays up and we can keep his name even tangentially associated with teh Heisman it will be great for him and for Rutgers. Come teh NFL: draft.. if some exec remembers Monangai and Heisman it could mean a lot more money for him.. a sure Rutgers alum some time from now given his fantastic academic reputation.

Why would anyone be against that? Just to be seen as "realistic"?

Well.. this is real.. the potential benefit to Kyle Monangai AND Rutgers.

Love Monangai, but Jeanty is the best RB in the country right now.
Oh.. I don't know there is any space between him and Monangai, 5:30 or so he does show some breakaway speed... yeah.. we'll have to see how the season goes. Maybe I give Jeanty an edge right now... we shall see.

Obviously it would be a long shot especially if you consider the fact that an RB just does not win it anymore.

Regardless of that I am happy he's getting all this press. Guy has been a stud for the program on and off the field. He deserves all the positives being said about him. I think it also goes a decent way in helping him for that next stage too.

Just being in the convo would be fun
Yeah, that's about all you can hope for since only two RB's have won the trophy in the last 20 years or so, and they both played for Bama, not a school like Rutgers

ESPN also had a piece on the top 5 freshman running backs, Raymond was one of the 5 - "Rutgers got a steal with him." So back number 1 is 2nd in the nation in rushing and our freshman RB is getting national recognition as well. Feels pretty good.

I’m not quite as high on Benjamin as others, but some smart folks here think he’ll be a good one. Plus Guerrier looked great in the spring game. Winowich should honestly probably switch over to LB

or Winowich to FB?

It doesn't seem like any QB is lighting it up this year so if there was a year a RB could make noise for a Heisman, this would be it.

Quinn Ewers is probably in the driver's seat given how he/Texas looked vs Michigan but they obviously have a very tough schedule and can fall off. (or he can prove his worth). Either way, worth a stab at Monangai at long odds.

Agreed, he would be the front runner but even he's not putting up crazy numbers. Just saying i feel its wide open at this moment.

I don't know who is "best" at this point in the season but Jeanty had 192 yds (7.68 avg) and 3 TDs vs #9 Oregon. I imagine he could tear-up Howard and Akron. Maybe the OL is real good? I don't know.

I do know the Heisman people are notorious front runners and give award to a top team in title contention. I don't see that happening to Boise or Rutgers.

I remember when Navy's Keenan Reynolds had 2,576 combined yds and 32 TDs in 2015 and he couldn't get a sniff of Heisman

If Monangai has like 2,500 yards rushing, why not?!
Because they rarely give it to RB's, and when they do they play for National Champions or at least a team in the Top 4, Rutgers may have a good season, but I doubt that good

The Heisman is no longer about the player that has the best season, it's now an MVP Award, and like pro sports the MVP goes to the most important player on either a championship team or a finalist, and in football that's almost exclusively a QB

Ya but he’d be in the discussion. Which is really what the goal is

I do think he should get up on these lists but very difficult for a RB unless he has a monster game in a couple of national games and really will need 2000 yds and near 20 TD and make the playoffs and keep it going.
I do t know how many RB’s ever had a year like Ray in 07 and he didn’t even get close.
But let’s say KM goes for 300+ in our next 2 - VT and Wash, he will deserve to talk regardless if he even breaks into top 5.
