Football Rutgers Football RB Kyle Monangai to sit out 2024 Rate Bowl

Sure add any stipulations you want.

Not talking about CFP and PSU this year.
Talking about all the prior bashing of "opt outs" that occurred every year and how these players shouldn't even be drafted because it's a severe character flaw to quit on their teammates.
It's awful and a sign of the decline of CFB that players are opting out.

Until it's KM. Then everyone understands and it makes sense.
Just funny how quick the flip flopping occurs.

And then people being consistent (like @AdventureHasAName ) are quickly called trolls and @$$holes.
I probably have a lot of people on ignore to whom you are referring. Either that, or my "don't worry, be happy" personality washes my mind of negative posts. I don't really keep track of who said what in the past. But going specifically to KM, the man played hurt for a good part of the year, and who knows what went into his decision to sit out. Maybe the medical advice he received said that for the combine, he should let his body heal for a specified period of time, and playing in a bowl overlapped. I don't know and don't care about the particulars. IIRC, and someone is free to check my post history, I don't recall my saying anything about the Miami players opting out of the bowl last year against Rutgers.

You may have noticed that there are a fair number of angry people on this board who post angry thoughts about whatever--heck, we have trolls yelling at people in weather threads for starting a snow thread on Christmas eve. Thinking about it, I am now angry about those people. I need to go into a deep state of meditation for a while to think happy thoughts again.

Kinda torn here. I understand the economics. I also have less sympathy now that they're paid. I kinda see it as a contract now. You got your free education and your NIL money. Now play the game.
No matter how you slice it, they are not paid by you or any other fans or businesses to play in this or any other game. NIL is compensation for the payers commercial use of name and likeness. That’s it.

I was wondering if that was the case.
KM was delaying a decision until the last days so maybe he wasn't 100%
He's not a lock to go high and could use a good combine without gimps.
Combine got Pacheco drafted and just barely
Blake Corum's 27 TDs only got him to 3rd round with his 5.3 40

5.3 40? Surprised he's that slow.

More than fine with his decision. I want to see what Raymond can do against a lesser defense. He had 22 for 73yds. against a light year's better Minny defense. I think this is a game where Raymond wants to show he should be considered #1 for next year.

I liked his HS vid and expected he will be good.
No reason not to continue expectations after this season

Unless it's the playoffs, expect and understand draft position is more important than playing in minor bowl games.
The risk of injury is enough to make NFL Draft eligible players considered first or second day picks
forgo playing in bowl games and get ready for NFL combine workouts instead.
I understand why Kyle is sitting this game out and feel he's doing what's best for him after d=giving his all as a player for the Rutgers football program
Also this gives Rutgers fans a look at what next years running game should look like with Benjamin
and Raymond carrying the load in the rate bowl .
With Brown coming back off another injury , their play in the Rate might ease concerns about losing Kyle
and if Brown can stay injury free in 2025.

I'm here as well but fully understand the dynamic. He must be advised that he's going in first 3 rounds

He ought to take out insurance if he played

Completely support Kyle's decision. It's his future and I respect and support his decision to protect his earning potential.

That said, waiting for Al to twist himself into a pretzel trying to explain the difference between Kyle (sitting out) and Sluka (who decided to sit out the balance of the season after the NIL money he was promised was never paid). They were both simply protecting their future.

not wrong

There is a lot of talk that Campbell might even be better than these two.

Good to see Pierce is playing.

Hopefully he has a terrific game and increases his draft value !

I have no issues with Monanghai sitting the game out. He’s earned that right. He’s a Warrior !

Hope Raymond has a phenomenal game !

I agree 100% and I am sure his teammates support the decision also. It seems to hurt fan ego far more than the teammates because 99% of them would do they same thing in his position.

I guess it is the best decision for Kyle. But I would like to win the bowl game, and it is a lot harder to win without Kyle. I would have loved it if Kyle didn't play until half way through the 4th quarter, and a rested up Monangai getting the ball for 7 or 8 carries, ripping off big chucks of yards headed for the winning score and burning up clock, the fans all going nuts.

Most here seem to be fine with KM's decision to sit out the bowl game, and that's great. The likelihood of severe injury is pretty low but why take the chance? But, others here seem to be concerned that Kyle sitting out will mean that we won't be able to field a competent offense, or something ... which I just don't get. I think our running game will be just fine. Raymond will start, I assume. And, seeing him play this year, I was impressed. Not to mention, I think our passing game will be highlighted, as it was during the last few games of the year. So, to me, this isn't really that big an issue.

It speaks to the depth in the RB room when I say I'm not so sure about that.
1) excellent runner
2) excellent pass catcher
3) VERY good blocker

…..he’s very, very the starter, WHICH takes nothing away from the guys who are gonna get the carries on Thursday.

He’ll have to earn it.
Raymond looked real strong when he was given opportunities.
Campbell finished 8th in the AAC in rushing.
Spring ball should be telling…. Especially if Brown gets back.
People were saying the same thing about Athen last year. It’s the past catching and blocking skills he possesses, which the young guys in our program do not yet, that will (likely) easily earn him the starting role. That doesn’t mean the other guys aren’t gonna get their reps. They will. And if Raymond or Benjamin are the starting role between the spring in the summer, then we are in seriously good shape on offense next year. Very, very good.

Remember, we’re losing one of the best blocking backs in the entire nation, so Campbell’s blocking ability is going to play a huge role.

I believe he had more catches just this year than KM had in his entire career.

To be discussed more in the off season - hopefully this means OC KC starts using RB passes next season.
