Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss…

Great TRUE story. Bear Bryant was embarrassed by USC‘s success against his team, and vowed NOT to have it happen again. It was a groundbreaking moment that changed the game of football in the South, and perhaps shifted some minds as well. All for the better of football and integration.

I remember when Arkansas followed suit and recruited Jon Brittenum to play. Many fans from schools in Texas called us the Razorblacks. Racism was alive and well back then and, unfortunately, still has a heartbeat today. Progress is slow, but cannot be stopped .

BTW, Bear Bryant was from a little community near Fordyce, Arkansas. He was on his way to be the next coach at Arkansas. But, while driving to accept the head coaching position at Arkansas, he heard on the radio that Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. He turned around.

Not to disparage Lane, but if your Auburn, with almost unlimited resources, why go after Kiffen when you could go after someone like Meyer or Stoops? Granted, I do not know if they want to coach again but if you want to beat Bama, guys who have won NC's previously are a better bet than Lane who seems to be the Larry Brown of CFB.
Meyer is done coaching after the embarrassing end in the NFL. He is good on TV.

Personally I think he would be crazy to go to Auburn. The boosters have been running that program for years. It reeks of cronyism and is a mess. Of course if he gets 6-7 million per than he would be crazy to turn that kind of dollars down.

Give it to him then. He’s a player

Can't really add Charlie Strong with Texas, as he coached in the Big XII not the SEC
what's worse.. for a supposed Rutgers fan.. is that RUTGERS has never hired a black head coach (interim only). But there are more than a few non-Rutgers fan posers on this board.. so I am thinking this fan's "mistake" doesn't look that bad for us all

Nate Northington played for Kentucky in 1967. But, it wasn’t until the 1970’s that recruitment of Black players really started to expand. We may be a little slow on the up take of the impact of Black athletes in the world of the perspiring arts, but I think we have made considerable strides since our awakening in the 70’s.

Many thanks to the coaches and players who took the political and personal risks to integrate Black athletes in to the segregated South.

Much more remains to be done in terms of coaches however.
BTW.. tough loss for Arkansas BBALL tonight.. Creighton looks damn good. I saw that you have Sideshow Bob playing for you... he's pretty good

Assume you meant football coach. We have a Bball court named after an African American head coach.

Why would Kiffin leave to coach at a school that has one of the more entitled, delusional fanbases in college football?
Well, if by some miracle Kiffen has any future aspirations for high national political office after his football career. then coaching in Alabama and at Auburn is a no brainer based on the proven priorities of Alabama voters.... Georgia might be another state where he could get elected to high political office based primarily on a successful football career in the state, but the jury's still out on that one and the pathway hasn't been proven yet to be quite as easy as it's been in Alabama.... 😉

True.. I should have been much more clear given how the thread turned to discuss basketball coaches. I also suppose all kinds of black coaches have been hired in the SEC before the unfortunate remark above about Kifkin going to Auburn.

Related story. I was on the New Brunswick train platform waiting to go to the Rutgers appearance in the NIT final-four when I saw 4 white guys talking about how "they" complain about coaching opportunities but all 4 teams in the NIT Final Four had black coaches. They did this in front of their children who they were taking to the game.

Maybe someday we will all be beyond all this score-keeping. I know I have been doing a lot more of it lately as the pendulum swings wildly.

I could never vote for person who wears a visor cap. Never. Arbitrary? Yup. But that is an eliminator.

You can say what you want about Lane Kiffin but he does have a pretty good sense of humor.
Auburn is a dumpster fire right now their boosters are out of control.
If they get a coach they can agree on.
They could be dangerous.
Auburn> Old Miss with resources.
Beat Bama or your gone though.

I wouldn’t rule Kiffin out for Auburn despite his comments. He does the usual coach “play on words” etc…I have not accepted the position etc…well according to the report they haven’t offered it either for him to accept. He didn’t definitively come out and say I’m not going to Auburn at all full stop. So imo it’s up in the air and can go either way still.

Guy who befriended me named Maurice O'Connell played with Bryant at Alabama.

Yes… Sam Cunningham and his USC teammates had an impact on Bear Bryant.

Final story from me about Bear Bryant…….
I had a client in Fordyce, Arkansas. An elderly gentleman . This was some 30 odd years ago. He was a classmate of Bryant’s. I saw the pictures. Anyway, he swears he was at the event where Bryant wrestled the actual bear. He stated that the bear was very docile but still good size..

Bryant might have had some liquid encouragement in him that night as well.

Auburn has more $ but they are the little brother of Bama and always will be.

Ole Miss is king in the State of Mississippi
It’s one of the best college towns in the country too
Auburn’s was awarded a MNC in 2010, had another couple perfect seasons, and multiple other 1 or 2 blemish on the record seasons in my life.

Ole Miss has lost 3 or more games for 50+ years.

Auburn is below Bama, but above Ole Miss.

Well, that's done with. Auburn has hired the "best fit" in Hugh Freeze. Good grief, is there no lower depth the SEC can sink to? Really, best fit? God, I am so happy we are a bad team in the B1G.

Sylvester Crooms was at Mississippi State as head coach in football.

Nolan Richardson won a National Championship at Arkansas as head basketball coach.

I am certain God forgives your lack of knowledge in this area.
Bruh when was the last? You acting like it's a frequent thing and they don't have issues with black Authority in that region of the country. You literally had to reach into the basketball for evidence smh. 🙄
