I LOVED the take away and score by Kiss. Shows we never gave up.

Hopefully, Kiss, Harper, Montez...get on track and start scoring (hitting 3's).

Also think that the last shot, while meaningless to the overall outcome...shows we have a burning desire to win / HATE losing.

Here's to the rest of the season and hoping for some pleasant surprises (W's).

Would you have loved it if it was a player of an opposing team doing that to RU?

We covered the spread. Not meaningless lol. I get your point though

When do you draw the line?

If we're winning 63-0 (remember the Rutgers - L'ville game where the final score was 63-14)? GS was PISSED at the results of the year before when we had a lead and they came back to win. Also remember when GS was NFL HC and had his players attacking the QB in a diamond formation? It's part of the game.

If not, we should adopt rules like: if you're winning 49 - 0 at the half...the game is over! If you lead by 50 or more after 3/4 the game is over. Why risk injury....players are choosing not to play in Bowl games so they don't get hurt and still have a shot at the NFL. This issue occurs more often than Bowl games (blowouts) and there should be an appropriate response to reward the team that's leading … while protecting players.

But to your point: play the entire game until it's over...and we all know what Yogi said!

Who cares if you win by 10, 7, 3 or 1...you still WON.

And if that bothers you...don't play!

Many SHU fans are complaining about this on their site. One guys is really bent out of shape about Peter scoring. These are the same SHU fans who thought nothing last year when Powell clobbered Eugene going in for a layup with about 2 seconds left and we had already been ahead. That play could have caused a brawl and a major injury but RU remained calm. Several years before Dane Miller tried to dunk on the last play of the game and Herb Pope leveled him which could have resulted in a serious injury. The same Herb Pope, Mr. Head Butt to Eli Carter and Nut puncher to a guy from Texas A & M or Texas Tech I believe was a real loose cannon. SHU fans forget about these things. Last year I counted 5 games where Powell almost instigated a fight. Rodriguez often did the same. I have been attending RU games since 1971 and I can say Marcus Toney El also almost caused a major brawl when he slammed one of our players into the stands attempting a layup. I know these are rivalry games but I cannot remember any RU player making a major play and almost causing a brawl. Seton Hall is a Catholic University and they act like they are holier than thou. I attended a Catholic college and my school followed certain principles. I just don't see SHU doing the same. Powell is an outstanding player and I have not seen any incidents from him yet this season. Just maybe he has grown up a bit. I hope that is the case.

In general i don't have an issue with Kiss playing to the final whistle. If SHU player is lazy with the ball and Kiss makes a steal and dunk because SHU guy stopped playing, good for him. But it goes both ways so the hard foul by Pope a few years ago is something that can happen also (a defender also playing hard to the final whistle).

I would say that our basketball team

I agree. Play to the final whistle. Although most fans on an opposing team are going to take umbrage at the kind of play Kiss pulled off. Fair to say Protect the ball or lose it.

It always make me think of Greg Schiano at Tampa Bay when he had his defense rush the Giants who were taking a knee. Made Tom Coughlin’s head explode.

Let’s not over-simplify. If a team is leading 84-50 and their player launches a three with two seconds (and shot clock not expiring) ain’t nobody should be happy.

Did you watch yesterday's Princeton vs Duke game (at Duke)?

Final 101- 50 : DUKE.

The last few minutes were all about Duke hitting 100 ...which occurred in the final 30 or so seconds.

PS Where is that thought process re.: L'ville (or whoever the hell it was) - Rutgers basketball game where they Tripled our score (93-31) a few years ago????

Really glad you brought that up.

There should be a rule....when a flagrant (intentional) foul is committed the player is OUT against that team the following year. If it's his last year, then the opposing coach gets to select a player from the opposing team next year to take the offending players place.

IMO Powell acted like a punk. He will go to the NBA...and I hope he gets a dose of his own medicine.

I’m fine with it and I’d be fine if we were up by 6 with 10 seconds left and he also did that dunk. It’s shu sorry

The game is 40 minutes long. Play all 40 minutes and let's stop with the Marquis of Queensbury rules...take our gloves off, and fight like hell till the final buzzer sounds the refs strip the ball from our raw / bleeding hands while we're kicking, screaming and playing like there's "no tomorrow"!

You have got to be freaking kidding me.

SHU was trying not to score as good sportsmanship gesture. The RU players backed off like they were allowing SHU to just run the clock without scoring. Then the RU players pull a reversal and double team Cale to the steal the ball. It's bush but no one was hurt by play so its best to let it go for now. I'm sure, however, the SHU will keep it in the back of their minds when they play next year.

I can’t remember the exact year Maybe 2008 or 2009 but the Hall was up by 10 or so at the RAC and Herb Pope threw down a dunk with 5 seconds left and the RU. Board was all over him. Not a big deal .

I don't think these 2 SHU fans realize how hard the fouls were by Powell on Omoruyi and Pope on Dane Miller. Both fouls were to me cheap shot fouls that were uncalled for and should have been flagrant fouls. Rutgers did not start a brawl after either foul but I believe in many cases something like this could have caused a major problem. Last year I saw Powell and Rodriguez each almost ignite a fight about 5 times each. These acts do not make SHU look good at all. I think Powell is trying harder this season to control his emotions. Hopefully that will continue and he can have a nice professional career.

Nope.

When was the last time we were in the NCAA's? Probably before you were born.

Regardless, I've gone through the NIT's in 1967 with Lloydl, Valvano, Graecen (drafted in 2nd round behind Kareem Abdul Jabbar by same team: the Bucks); the 70's with Sellers, Dabney, Jordan, Bailey, Copeland the early 80's with Hinson, Black, Troy... Hughes / Duncan transfers from Cuse ...and then the great Exodus of RU basketball began and continues.

It's been close to 28 years since we've been @ the Dance. I don't want us wandering for another 12 to match Moses " lack of direction" : it's not that far from Sinai to Israel... how lost could you be?

I liked what Kiss did....and if someone does it to us...so what? Play hard from the opening tip to the close.

What is your problem with Kiss's play...it shows he wanted to WIN... he refused to give up- he sent a message to SHU, Powell et al: NEXT TIME!

I like it....

Mo, I didn’t say I had a problem with Kiss’s play. I think at some point though things do become ridiculous which you seem not to think. ( I am not diving into the stands to keep a ball from going out of bounds if we’re up by 30 with 20 seconds left. But that’s just me. ) No big deal. Thanks for the huge compliment regarding my age.

Knights you’ve been doing this for years. All the Hall kids are bums and the RU kids are angels. You are the KING of the Spin Doctors, I do , however, admire your passion. Kiss is the kind of kid who if he plays for your team you love him . Other fans not so much. Powell is a great kid, but I understand why you would dislike him lol

Hey...it's the Holidays. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I'm 72 so from my perspective about 95 % of this board are "young'uns"!

Let's get 'em in 2019 and beyond!

GO RU!

Hey Prof Ed, Tell me one incident of a Rutgers player trying to instigate a brawl in any RU-SHU game over the last 30-40 years. SHU has Tony El leveling a RU player into the first row, Herb Pope head butting Eli Carter and Pope hitting Dane Miller and Powell leveling Omoruyi at the end of last year's game. Kiss didn't do anything like any of these acts. I doubt you can come up with one but I am the spin doctor. I never said RU players were all angels but I know SHU has had several guys that many would call a thug. Hazell wasn't a thug but he would take 3 point attempts and throw out his legs to draw a foul. That was absolute bush league. Lawrence, and Robinson were loose cannons as well. If Powell is such an angel he would not have almost gotten into about 5 fights last year. Rodriguez got so mad last year that he even went into the huddle of another team. How many times did Willard have to sit him down. I know what I have seen.

When SHU wins the following posts are guaranteed: our players are punks, we are over rated, next year will be different, we don’t have an on campus facility, we are a community college, etc .
