From the recent Ledger article, it seems our defensive line was operating with the biggest stud out and the second and third guy both nursing injuries that greatly impacted the quality of their play. Every projected defensive backfield starter was out, so coach Rossi was clearly operating with a personnel handicap last year. Injuries are a part of the game, but there are not many coaches who are the kind of miracle workers who can maintain the same kind of production from a squad that in essence is working with 70% of a squad being severely limited or gone. Anyone who has coached or played at any level knows that.
I've pointed this out multiple times, but no one seems to want to listen.
From graduation in 2014, we lost 3 DL's and 3 DB's:
- David Milewski - DE - 5th year senior starter
- Kenneth Kirksey - NT - 25yo starter who chose not to pursue a 5th year
- Daryl Stephenson - NT/DT - part time starter
- Lorenzo Waters - S - 3 year starter at strong safety
- Gareef Glashen - DB - 1.5 year starter at cornerback
- Johnathan Aiken - S - 1+ year starter at free safety
- Darius Hamilton - DT - lost for the season even though he tried to play against TTFP
- Sebastion Joseph - DE - played while recovering from a torn bicep
- Kemoko Turay - DE - played with an injured shoulder that prevented him from practicing
- Darian Dailey - projected starter at cornerback
- Nadir Barnwell - returning starter, expected to be ineligible for academic reasons
- Delon Stephenson - projected starter at safety
- Dre Boggs - projected starter at cornerback
- Ruhann Peele
- Davon Jacobs
