Lavianova

"Lavianova", I like that!

As I said on another thread earlier in the week - don't worry, by his 5th year he'll figure things out. So we might get good QB play once every 4-5 years. Of course, we might have a good one standing on the sidelines right now but how would we know...

Definitely see some Novaesque things out there from him....if he is in fact a game manager then there is no room for any kind of pop warner Nova mistakes which we are consistently seeing. Obviously he's doing better than Rettig in practice, but this is tough to watch.

Nova was way better. But, Nova also had Cignetti and Fridge versus what we have now.
McDaniels isn't the issue. Laviano just doesn't have the arm to make deep throws. I am impressed by his awareness, throwing it out of bounds, and looking for open receivers. But his throws lack zip or touch. And it looks like anything over 15 yards might not have the power needed to be delivered to the receiver

Kids 2nd start. First in a hostile as hell environment with horrible game plan, no HC, no best player, and a ton of turmoil for the program. I'm not willing to start making fun of our starting Rutgers QB quite yet. Esp when the other young alum you are making fun of was a loyal kid who led us to a solid 8-5 first year in the BIG TEN.

Loser post.

No...you just want to call out the entire state of Pennsylvania and PSU following your frustration. We're all pissed off about the outcome but you seem to take it to another level.

Cool story bro. Take it to the right thread. I can't stand PSU and I am not a fan of PA. I wasn't irked about the loss. ( see my "I'm not mad" post if you want to cross reference threads)

I posted that thread when I heard the

"We're not rivalss" chants. As if these losers are in some pedastal. They can F themselves and take their levis to the tractor. I stand by that. This is a Rutgers message board dude.

Putting down our own kids and putting down kids who played well for us is not something I wanna do.

So it's a Rutgers message board. At the moment we are not rivals....we have single digit wins against PSU over the past 90 years. I was at the last one. Get a grip....maybe when we start winning a share of the games we'll have a true rivalry....until then not so much.

I'm in IL's camp on not making fun of Chris...as I've posted in other threads I share some of the concerns...but he is way better than Nova was at the same time in his career. Yesterday's game plan did not help him nor did the OLIne play. I voted for Rettig. But do also think Chris can play well enough. Certainly well enough not to get called names already.

Not for nothing but Laviano is a RS sophomore in his 3rd year with the program. I would expect him to be better at this point in his career compared to Gary Nova who started as a true freshman.

Yeah but Flood wouldn't even put him in a game during garbage time. OSU puts third stringers into championship games and expresses confidence in them. RU treats back-ups like they have the cooties and need quarantining

Poor argument. OSU's quality of depth is on a completely different level.

Agree....it's just food for thought given the argument some are making that Laviano is similar to Nova at the same point in his career - I don't agree given that Nova had far less time in the program before he became (at least a part-time) starter....and this is not a ringing endorsement of Nova either just that their circumstances are quite different.

True....no one can argue that. But given that Laviano and Rettig were supposedly neck and neck and the fact that Rettig looked pretty good in the opener should at least warrant him a series or 2.

Nova threw for 400 yards against Michigan with zero picka and 3 tds.

Laviano is not physically capable of such a. Feat. I admit he has moxie but even dodd could throw a deep ball.

Show some fire and resolve man. You wonder why the kids on the field look flat.

I'm as fired up as any RU fan and pissed at the loss...and more so especially given that PSU is down....I would want nothing more for us to have a rivalry with PSU but we actually have to win some of the games to make it exciting. I highly doubt that the team looking flat has anything to do with the fans and everything to do with coaching, skill, and of course available personnel.

Not necessarily the individual comparison, but the complete aura of the entire situation.

I'm not disputing that. I think we need to give Rettig a chance, otherwise what was the point of even recruiting him? I'm just saying if you're going to use an example (in this case, saran used OSU), at least make it comparable to our situation.

The team needed a spark last night. The fastest way to do that is change QB's.

Dumb thread . Nova was much better . This also isn't fair to Laviano who is just starting out and obviously doesn't have the coaching.

I think he was just using that as an example of making a change to spark the team...no disputing the talent disparity between RU/OSU.

Have a lot of respect for Laviano going out there and facing that rush all night. No QB can play well n that situation, it's just survival mode and he did a better job than Nova would have under those circumstances.

But we're 2-1 with Nova, he could make all the throws.

Nova had his WTF games but you knew in his freshman year that he was talented and he possessed an arm.

Not that way with Laviano....no arm strength and all you see is someone who can hit a 5-10 yard pass....exactly what serviceable back up QB's should be doing....

Not the same talent... But the same favored treatment.

Flood should not be allowed to hold ru hostage any longer. Enough

How many times did Nova throw from beyond the line of scrimmage -- in the same game even!!!!

Plus all the picks and same game picks.

Once -- on the player. Repeat, unaddressed occurrences -- that's coaching.

Flood lost my confidence during the Kent State game.

I have never recovered from that day.

Last year he made "all the throws" to PSU lol. The PSU DC guaranteed his DBs 5 INTs before the game

Lavi was a squeak better last night!

Gary Nova vs PSU 2014 = 15/30 192 yds 0/TD 5/INT 28.3

Chris Laviano vs PSU 2015 = 27/42 251yds 0/TD 2/INT 28.5

Laviano is not nearly as good as senior year Gary Nova. Nova had the ability to make NFL type throws down the field with velocity and touch. Laviano appears to be a very scrappy type quarterback with a lot of heart but his high completion percentage is very misleading. His throws from the pocket are almost exclusive no more than 10 yards down the field. The only time he has been successful throwing downfield has been on bootlegs or scrambles outside the pocket.

Every ru qb looks the same because every ru offense fails to open up the pass by establishing the run early. Yesterday was no different.

Nova would have been terrible against PSU but he would have beat WSU....by two TD's.
