Lavianova

Last year he made "all the throws" to PSU lol. The PSU DC guaranteed his DBs 5 INTs before the game

Lavi was a squeak better last night!

Gary Nova vs PSU 2014 = 15/30 192 yds 0/TD 5/INT 28.3

Chris Laviano vs PSU 2015 = 27/42 251yds 0/TD 2/INT 28.5
Important stat: Nova average completion is 12.8 yards, Laviano average completion 9 yards. Might not seem like a big difference but the difference is significant. Enough to convert first downs and keep drives alive.

Laviano is not the reason why we lost yesterday and in my opinion he out played the PSU QB. Did he make some bad throws, Absolutely but he also ran for his life throughout the game.

Every ru qb looks the same because every ru offense fails to open up the pass by establishing the run early. Yesterday was no different.
Are you kidding, every drive was 1st down run, 2nd down run, 3rd and long attempt to pass! They like most teams could not run against Penn States front. They continuously put themselves in 3rd and long which made Laviano a sitting duck. They are no longer in the AAC or Big East where they could line up and running down the opponents throat. The play calling has to keep the defensive off guard by being unpredictable

Laviano is not THE reason we lost, but he is certainly ONE of the reasons we lost.

Not sayng he lost the game but the issue is his inability to stretch the field. As a result every opponent will be able to crowd the box and take away the run. That couple with the predictable play calling (run or 1st and 2nd down) made him a sitting duck.

I kinda wish they tossed Rettig into the fire last night. Just to shut some of you up. Kid ain't our Savior. Be done w it.

Agree, I think some are going a little too far with the savior thing, but most of us just want to see him get a chance. It was a close competition that went into the first game. It is clear Rettig has a better arm. Please explain to me after what you saw yesterday, why you believe that Rettig shouldn't at least get a half against Kansas?

It's amazing how many here still feel the need to speak about Nova in a negative light. His college career may have not provided the fans with the fondest of memories, but he had a pretty solid senior year albeit a few bad eggs. He's no longer playing on the team so it's prolly better for your blood pressure to move on.

However, given the current state of affairs, a review of Nova's body of work under Flood is fair in that it may shed light on the coach's current and future handling of quarterbacks.

OR.... The current situation can remind you who exactly was Nova's backup.

Yeah but Flood wouldn't even put him in a game during garbage time. OSU puts third stringers into championship games and expresses confidence in them. RU treats back-ups like they have the cooties and need quarantining
This. They had two years to get him game experience.

With all things going wrong w the program, I thought Laviano looked good for his second career start. Compare it to teel or nova.

Did Dodd really get a raw deal? He did decent filling in for Savage but he wasn't necessarily impressive. But I'm not gonna knock Dodd cause I know he worked hard

In Dodd's first start vs UConn he won BE Player of the Week. He did well after that too. Then the RU QB brain trust started coaching him into mediocrity (ie no playing to win - better off playing "safe" and vanilla - unless you were Nova and then you could throw the ball around like confetti).

Keep in mind we had serious o-line issues then and Dodd wasn't the tallest guy so he had to keep to the passing lanes they could open for him.

Let's see laviano actually do what nova did...

Ohio state changed quarterbacks, and the guy led them in playoffs to title....

Flood is absolutely terrible....what are not getting what RU pays for

He should have been fired in 2010
