I have a man crush on Cam Spencer. He could go on to have one of the best seasons at RU. I get small sample size and OCC opponents. Don‘t care will stand by my words.

We have three guys on this team that will legit steal the shorts off the opponent between Cam, Derek and Caleb. Mag, Hyatt and Cliff plays solid to good defense along the frontcourt with Woolfolk off the bench impossible to move, not even mentioning Jalen Miller who is finding it hard to see playing time is a pretty good defender as well. This team is deep and good, offensively and defensively.

I mean I know it's only 1.5 games but he seems like a much more consistent scorer than Ron or Geo. BBall IQ off the charts.

Really enjoyed watching Geo during dead ball, watching his body language and interactions with the team, his leadership. That’s the stuff that has me excited about Cam. High IQ player like Geo and Ron.

More chemistry and ball movement in two games than in two years of Baker and Harper isolation/desperation. Sure they made big shots, but this team plays team offense.

I'm sure Pike will start Caleb over Mag bc of the DPOY acclaim, but I wouldn't. I'd have Caleb be the first sub...for Paul. Or start for Paul. Except for the ND loss last year, Caleb detracts from offensive flow.

Caleb does tend to hold the ball so will be interesting to see how he fits in. Hope he plays within himself. Don’t need hero ball

Due to stagnant Baker Ball and non-existent team offense, the team needed to rely on defense. Same with two years ago with Myles #15 crippling the offense even further with Naismith-era skills.

I don't think this group needs starter minutes from Caleb for defense.. It would be bold to have him the 6th man after last year's accolades, but I don't think he's a better offensive player than Mag.

Hopefully Pike preserves this chemistry with Caleb starting.

Dude does it all. Game is just so good. And his shot is soooo pure.

Can some of those guys guard him in the B1G? Forget him guarding them. They should be concerned.
A little too early to anoint him. Impressive so far but can he defend Big10 guards ? He certainly won't rebound as well in-conference.

The whole team has chemistry, doesn’t seem to matter who is on the court.

Watching him in person tonight you really get a feel for how good all around player he is. I thought he was going to be a catch and shoot type player strictly. I was wrong. He’s in complete control on both ends of the court and has a great feel for the game. He’s getting guys great shots on offense and seems to get us into what we want to run. He plays with great pace and doesn’t seemed rushed at all. Deceptive speed as he changes pace so effectively.Very refreshing to watch. Dude just knows how to play.

No way Hyatt comes off the bench. I guess Mag will be the first sub, but for who is anyone’s guess. I could see him coming in for anyone but Cliff.

He has made all the right plays. He knows how to play D. He sees his man and the ball at all times. He will need to make adjustments against better teams because he has gambled a lot in the 1st 2 games. He really has been a joy to watch.

Have you watched the games? Serious question.

Granted two games against patsies but name the last Frosh who has played the same in his first two games….
Peter Kiss was really good his 1st 2 games.

I am certain Cam Spencer is heads and shoulders above him on both sides of the court.

Really well said. My thoughts exactly. Talented in all facets. A real baller.

He has really impressed. How can you call someone a consistent scorer in a 2 game career against 2 terrible teams.
Cam Spencer is solid in all aspects of his game. He scored at every level in his career. He certainly appears athletic enough, can pass , shoot the rock and play D. As someone else pointed out if I’m from another conference team I would not take Cam Spencer lightly. We’ll see down the road.I can’t wait until we get Caleb and Dean back at full go. What I see I like and I trust Pikiell who once again has been very upfront about his team…he always sounds overly positive but he’s been very happy anytime he has voiced opinion about what he sees. That is all that matters.Pike can coach .Pike is showing that yes …he can recruit and identify players. Tougher match up Saturday and let’s see if we can maintain our intensity and focus. Next we can discuss young Derek Simpson.

Cam will see the best defender from B1G teams. Also teams will not go all out and double and triple team Cliff leaving everyone open.

as the schedule gets tougher we are going to need To see Cam take even more shots. He has been very unselfish. I still think this team will need him to take volume shots

Will be interesting to watch the season unfold. I haven’t seen a game yet but the reports are promising.

I’m another thread someone said Cam is the best pure shooter RU has had since Douby. If so let’s see how he handles and gets out of a a slump (which is what I remember from QD being a big time boom or bust guy).

ah.... no. I don't want to see any slump. sorry.

Yes. I have
He isn’t a freshman
He has a 2 game career
I watched Geo play live 80+ times and Ron 60.

I love this board.
I guess since we can't have the annual "RHJ is going to be a 1st round pick and lead the Big Ten in scoring" threads after 5 OOC games, we've moved onto "Cam Spencer is going replace RHJ by himself!"

Could he? Sure I guess.
But as you said, not crazy to want see more than a 2 game sample size against Columbia/Sacred Heart.

Huge upgrade from GEO
Dude is focused on the right things
Geo is number 2 all time in assists and number 8 all time in points at RU. Probably somewhere near the top in steals as well. And maybe number 1 in clutch shots. I love what Cam is doing but a “huge” upgrade? Are you familiar with the concept of recency bias?

it's very early. but if he can maintain ..the rebounding, lack of turnovers, shooting % from three, from the line, and consistency would be a significant upgrade. All the good things Geo did and none of the bad.
BUT, it's early and haven't played a B1G game yet. So we'll see.

I love the guys who make the pass to the guy who gets the assist. Guys who keep the ball hot, drive and dish, throw skip passes, all that stuff where they don't get a stat but make their team and teammates better.
I still don't know if he can do it in the B1G but it's been fun to watch so far.

If Terry hits the FT at the end, it's a 40-point win. When was the last time Rutgers had two 40-point wins in a row?

At times inconsistent, distracted and some real head scratching decisions
We have a better opportunity to make noise in the NCAA with Cam on the court vs first round knockouts with Geo
With cam we beat ND, With Cam we Beat Houston
That is HUGE in my opinion!
