well for the first time in a long time this game has some juice, probably not since RU beat them in the Big East tourney under Rice

I do not like this school at all. I feel this board is getting somewhat soft in their dislike for them. Hopefully Saturday reminds everyone.

SHU has a little too much talent and experience for us this year. We won’t win this game unless we catch them flat, which is very unlikely.

I was listening to HallLine last night after the game because for some reason KnightLine wasn't on after our games. Tells you something. Anywho....the hosts were tooting their horn on where SHU was ranked and were talking about how they feel that the Final 4 is in their future. They brought up being a 5 seed and once they beat the 12 seed there will be no stopping them. Peeps were calling up on how they feel that they will beat Villanova not once but twice and Jay Wright definitely doesn't want any part of playing SHU. Let's put them in there place Saturday.

Even though they’ve more or less dominated us I still think this rivalry means more to them because they see us as the bad big liberal state university that gets all the attention. Frankly, it doesn’t mean much to me anymore. We’re in the Big Ten not the A-10 or Big East anymore. Beats playing FDU and CCNY but to me it’s just one good game.

I don't recall seeing any "Let the MSU or Minny smack talk begin" threads here so I assume this game means something to some RU fans.

Well I for one like this rivalry and hope RU can play it's best game Saturday. We will need to to be competitive and maybe get an upset win. The crowd should be LOUD and be the 6th man we need.

Rivalries that last are based on teams defeating each other on a regular basis. At the same time the Seton Hall game creates fan excitement between the schools and that is good because it enhances attendance.

As someone who hasn't lived in for NJ 20+ years, I rarely hear anything about SHU. We're in the Big Ten conference arguably the best all around (all-sports) conference in the country. Those are the games I'm excited for. If we beat a Penn State or Maryland or Michigan in anything, it means a lot more to me than beating SHU. Just because most of their fans are morons isn't a reason to think it's a real rivalry.

For some insane reason, I truly believe we're going to break through and beat a top team this weekend. I do know it's going to be a friggin' war.

And I'm very disappointed that I can't be there, but there's no choice on this one. Sadly a good friend (and former RU prof, who relocated to UMass 2 years ago) of mine who's only 48 died of a heart attack the other day while driving his car and the service is Saturday.

Posters on both of our boards always say this. "I don't think it's a rivalry because XYZ". It's a way to get under the opposing fans skin. Highly doubt this guy doesn't see this as a rivalry. Just a lame excuse at a dig.

Always want RU to win.

I do understand Seton Hall has been in the better of the rivalry for a while, and have to respect that. I think Rutgers is on their way up, and will beat SHU next year indefinitely.

Let's go RU

One constant with RU basketball - wait until next year. Think,it's called optimism.

I don't know why people pooh-pooh our rivalry with SHU. Frankly, it's the only real rivalry we have in hoops, as we haven't developed any rivalries in the B1G yet, and our wars with SHU from the BE days still resonate.

I think we have. You guys better check the game results the past 20 years.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Greene Rice FIG a Rutgers fan and now you’re smack talking each other? Lol

Looking forward to a good game. You might say I’m one of the more balanced fans as I’m a SHU alum/basketball season ticket holder and RU husband/RU football season ticket holder. My wife and I won’t be speaking Saturday, and hoping she’s the one sulking.

Carino’s Recap article was fun... some memories.

We have won games and have lost games. Don't get it.

Carino always has a great summary before this game. I really hope RU can pull out a win. SHU has won 4 in a row but 3 of the wins were over us when Eddie was our coach. They ran up the score in two of those games when we had very little talent. Last year we led by 9 at the half and the game was still only 2 points with 2:29 remaining. SHU has much more experience and talent with 4 seniors who have started forever. Anything can happen on a given day. I believe we really need top be firing on all cylinders but I know the RAC will be rocking. I think we are still moving forward each season. SHU has several good players returning next year but they are losing a great deal in Delgado, Rodriguez, Carrington and Sanogo. SHU pulled way ahead of us when they hired Tiny Morton and Antigua and landed Whitehead, Rodriguez and Delgado through their connections. This was not a violation but was a bit out of the ordinary for recruiting.

This is funny. The Rutgers fan’s biggest rival is another Rutgers fan. At least on Scarlet Nation.

While it looks like Seton Hall should win, if we can go toe to toe with Michigan, I dont think Shoe is as good as they are. Anything is possible. Ive seen them play 2x this year & they lost to Rhode Island in one game.

We DO have a rivalry & they have dominated us in basketball . But to me we have so little in common> I only visited the campus 1x years ago & came away unimpressed. I have a friend in CAL that went to SHU who when we were out and about in CAL was constantly asked "Seton Hall..where is that" while I got "Rutgers, thats ivy league...right?" My other school is Cornell so I would easily switch gears but I never corrected anyone. I would just say "8th oldest school in America" and leave it at that.LOL

Rutgers is a member of the B1G, why should fans care about an academic fall back school like Seton Hall?

how about shoe actually wins a NCAA game before proclaiming they are final 4 bound. losses as lower seeded team the past 2 years.
they have better players than us, no question. they are not a smart team, not mentally tough, and not coached well...wilt under pressure.
give Mr MAAC credit, his assistant coach for players relief program worked years ago, now as seniors...didn't NCAA pass the "shoe rule" to make it harder to do this in future?
they should be better than what they have shown this year and in past years....they had no business losing to an undermanned URI team...

the game has some juice as an OOC game, esp given our OOC schedule...but I'd much prefer beating MD or Penn State or winning a B1G game over them...that is more important...

let's win one of these before even thinking about talking smack

We're 16-17 all time at home against SHU. Of the 68 games we've played, 33 have been decided by 6 or fewer points.

Outside of the last three games, this has been a very tight series. Prior to 2014 when our Eddie Jordan-led squad had its worst loss in the series since 1986 (followed by our worst loss in the history of the rivalry in 2015), this series had been rife with nailbiters. It's only very recently that SHU has outpaced us. The only two times before 2014-16 that SHU managed to beat us by double digits three times in a row were 1986-88 and 1943-47. They've never beaten us by double digits four times in a row, and hopefully this year doesn't set that mark.

From 2000-2013, Rutgers was 13-17 against SHU. Of those 30 games, just 6 were decided by double digits during regulation, and 10 finished regulation either tied or within one possession. From 2007-2013, only 1 of 16 games finished regulation with the teams separated by more than 6 points, and 4 went to OT.

I'd love the rivalry to get back to that level of competition.

#humblebrag. You forgot to attach your w-2.

A better translation might be "Onward, through difficulty." Hazard doesn't translate literally as "Hazards." No Latin in all your Ivy League education?

The only people who mention Rutgers and Ivy League in the same breath .... are Rutgers people. Ditto for Miami (OH).

Hazard zet can’t be Latin - no z in the Roman alphabet . Must be Greek. Or ??
