Let the Seton Hall smack talk begin

It is a rivalry and I don't buy the "I don't care much about it" argument. We are ranked team and this would be a very disappointing loss. From a resume perspective, a win really doesn't help SHU at all because of your SOS. A loss would obviously hurt. Our in conference games are much more important as well as the ranked teams we have beaten and the OOC. But it still SHU/RU. Someday you guys will actually realize what building a resume is ( needed to talk a little smack...lol).

As I have said before, both schools are in a much better place based on the shifting in conferences. The B1G and BE are the perfect places for our respective schools. It also goes to show that if you have the right leadership, both schools can dramatically improve their positions. Hobbs/Pickiel or Lyons/Willard. We should both be thankful that the days of Hermann, Jordan, Quinlan and Gonzalez are behind us ( and those mistakes are never made again).

The sniping and name calling (shoe, LRSC, etc.) are amusing but we really need to step it up:). We could do much better!

And from somebody that has traveled a lot over their career both domestically and internationally we are deluding ourselves to think that we both have the profile that some on either side claim. More like arguing who is the valedictorian of summer school. Personally, I'm OK with that. My SHU degree has served me well and a couple of my best friends are RU grads. That's all that really matters.

So F@ck RU! F@ck my friend bac and let's get it on.

For some insane reason, I truly believe we're going to break through and beat a top team this weekend. I do know it's going to be a friggin' war.

And I'm very disappointed that I can't be there, but there's no choice on this one. Sadly a good friend (and former RU prof, who relocated to UMass 2 years ago) of mine who's only 48 died of a heart attack the other day while driving his car and the service is Saturday.

I would love to see the program get their trophy. It's a long season though and there is a ton of progress to me made after this game.

I am with you.

I would trade in a nanosecond, a loss to SHU for 6 or 7 wins in the Big Ten this season, rather than a win over SHU and 4 Big Ten wins. Strong Big Ten play will determine RU's basketball PROGRAM development and future, not wins or losses involving SHU.
Why does it have to be a trade-off? How about we win on Saturday and also win 6 or 7 big ten games? That would be cool.

I disagree this year. Give me this win and 5-13 B1 OVER 6-12 in B1G with the incremental win vs. Maryland.

unfortunately this could be the only time our building is full and other than Purdue only chance left to beat a ranked opponent at home

hard to believe shu can pull recruits in. There's really nothing to sell. Poor education, minor league conference, no on campus arena, crappy campus, not known as a fun school. If i was a shu fan i'd enjoy this ride now because after this season it's over

Ignorant smack...lol. Next year will be a consensus 20-30 ranked team and Top 3-4 in BE. Google Tauren Thompson, Jared Rhoden.......and you would cream your pants to have Jordan Walker as your PG. Tell me when you will win more than 4 B10 games...not soon.

I will make a prediction on this game when I see who the refs are. The refs are going to know this one could get nasty and be a foul fest. If Seton Hall has players in foul trouble especially their bigs and RU doesn’t the Scarlet Knights have a chance. I saw SHU vs Saint Peters the other night and this is the best Hall team since 2001. Their bench is deeper than most years but not unbeatable.

Surely being a gated campus is a big selling point for parents, though, no? And I hear crime in Newark was down last year!

we'll win more than 4 big ten games this year lol. Jordan walker is a mouse who would get eaten alive in the B1G. You might wanna check up on our commits. Montez Mathis would eat rhodens breakfast, lunch and dinner and then spit it back at him. Thompson was a nice transfer so we'll see, I think he'll be good. But i don't think there's any reason to believe a guy like shaq carter wont have just as big an impact

Check again...Rhoden has blown up this year. Dropped in 40 last night with 10 3's.

F*ck the Hall

And, jelly, a win Saturday IS the spring board for at least those 6 to 7 wins in the big ten you mention

Sorry. I hope Walker gets healthy, but he would not benefit RU from being on the bench.

GL Saturday.

As both programs are hopefully trending up, we should be recruiting with a more national focus than local. That said, other than bragging rights for the fans, as both programs recruit more kids outside the tri-state area, do they really compete head-to-head in recruiting for this game to still matter?

he's a nice player but he's no Mathis.

Next year SHU is very weak up front. sure the transfer is going to be pretty good but he's rail thin. Next year we're going to be a really tough match up for shu. If corey comes back we're going to most likely have a starting 5 of Corey, Geo Baker, montez, shaq carter, duke. 3 rivals100 players, Geo who's turned into a nice player early on in his own right and a top 5 juco player in america.

Thompson, Nzei, Mamu, Vlad Manuel if he qualifies..."very weak"...lol. A year away, but I bet we are still favored spread. Good luck the rest of the way...after Saturday.

Powell, Cale and Thompson would be the three best players if they were on Ru's roster next season. Cale would be getting a ton of minutes this year on RU..

Pikiell has been a blessing for you guys, and you will get better each year, is be excited about him if he were my coach. Just gotta pray he stays

Even though they’ve more or less dominated us I still think this rivalry means more to them because they see us as the bad big liberal state university that gets all the attention. Frankly, it doesn’t mean much to me anymore. We’re in the Big Ten not the A-10 or Big East anymore. Beats playing FDU and CCNY but to me it’s just one good game.
It’s a sellout bc it means a lot to both fan bases. I’m flying in from California w 5 tickets.

sorry but Snookie fits the SHOE demographic perfectly

What is the demographic? You've already opined that it's a "commuter school," and it's 40% commuters/60% residents. I believe it was Rutgers that paid Snookie more than you make in a year, to speak to the public ivy students on campus.

I don't think that Cale, Powell & Thompson are better than any player returning next year for RU. Powell has been playing outstanding but I think some of that is because of the very good seniors on the floor with him. Thompson was good at Syracuse but I wouldn't get carried away. I don't think he is as good as Delgado. Cale is very athletic but it remains to be seen how good he will be as he is not logging great minutes. Sanders if he returns will be a 4 year starter with a chance at 2,000 points. Baker is also very good and will only get better. SHU will lose an awful lot in Delgado, Rodriguez, Carrington and Sanogo and it is not even definite that Nzei will return. He probably will but he could leave as a grad transfer.

anyone who wants to pretend shoe isn't a commuter school is kidding themselves. Only people who go to SHU undergrad are people who don't get into Rutgers or monmouth. shu kids look to visit their friends at every school other than shu every weekend. not much going on around shu on weekends.

Thompson averaged 9 & 4 as a freshman for Syracuse. We're comparing him to RU's front line not Delgado who is a double double machine. Powell will have better stats than Sanders this year. Cale may be Willard's most athletic recruit. Will be fun to see how this plays out.

If anyone doesn't think this game is important to local recruiting, they are deluding themselves.
. If they are a d1 prospect, they want to see playing time at their position in the close to near future. Or the potential to take a spot. If. It's not there, this game doesn't matter.

And a loss is business as usual for RU basketball.
not this year , the hall will have their hands full and expect a meltdown on the hall board after RU puts a loss on them.
The Hall is due for a loss, because they are playing above their talent level and it's time for them to be taught a lesson by a hungry Scarlet Knights team.

So for you (after the game, or late fourth quarter):

85, Hallsoccer is the one who stated that Thompson, Powell & Cale would be the best 3 players on RU next season if they were on the RU roster. I don't agree with that. Thompson only getting 4 rebounds a game is a big come down from Delgado getting about 13 last year. If those 3 guys are so much better than anyone on RU than SHU should win in a romp next year. Powell is playing very well but a lot will be expected of him without Delgado, Rodriguez and Carrington. He just might not hit such a high % of threes next season. That we will see next year. Perhaps he will or perhaps he will not. Doucoure hardly ever shoots and plays less than half a game (16 mpg) and is getting 4.5 ppg and 4.7 rebounds a game. He will be better next season. He is averaging more rebounds per game than Thompson did for Syracuse and is only playing 16 minutes per game.
