Let the Seton Hall smack talk begin

well for the first time in a long time this game has some juice, probably not since RU beat them in the Big East tourney under Rice

I do not like this school at all. I feel this board is getting somewhat soft in their dislike for them. Hopefully Saturday reminds everyone.

It's nice that we have an REAL RIVAL. We've lost more than we've won...and here's hoping we start to even the score.

The odds are against us (SHU is #15)...but it would good to knock off a national power.

Since joining the B1G I really view this relationship differently: I only think about SHU when we play them or if we're in a recruiting battle. Other than that
I don't really care- and wish them well (except Sat. when I hope we stomp on their balls- and win BIG).:basketball:

After the conquest of Greece, Rome adopted the letter z from the Greek alphabet.
Ok, but it is not common in in Latin and disappeared from the Latin alphabet during the late republic. The phrase in question is not Latin. (Not an expert by any means but I did take Latin for five years).

the one guy was crying how he saw a t shirt saying Rutgers is NJ's team and it made him mad...aw
The Hall is South Orange's team, but the Oranges > East & West along with Orange is Rutgers territory .:p

I want to smack everyone who went to Seton Hall (with only one exception -- I have way too much respect for Jerry Carino after working with him for more than a decade), all of their mamas, everyone involved in founding Seton Hall, the architects who built Seton Hall, the maintenance people who keep Seton Hall going, the dining hall cooks at Seton Hall who feed the wretches and anyone who ever drove by the campus without spitting out the window. I want to smack all of them.

Is that enough smack talk?

F*ck the Hall
That's more like it....this thread has been like reading like pussy smack.

It is a rivalry and good for the state to have some college juice. As mentioned earlier, it doesn't get the attention all season like it used to when we played 2x a year in the same conference but both schools have found the right path with the B10 and BE.

Hope it warms up Sunday so I can razz my two RU ex-FB buddies on the golf course.

F*ck Seton Hall

You mean Dean of the law school? I guess you could say Rutger has a better campus than the law school. Not by much though.
I was speaking to your assertion that we're essentially a high school because we have multiple campuses to which student take buses. If it's as you say, the former dean of you law school is making more money as our AD than he did running what I assume, based on your screen name, is your JD alma mater.

Nope, went to RU for law school :)
Of course he's making more money as your AD than our whatever. You guys got that public funding $$$. That's not something to brag about.

I'm not bragging about anything, I was shooting down your idea that Rutgers is like a high school because we have campus buses. Don't make points out of straw and then divert attention from them, counselor--it's too easy to knock them down, which you should have figured out by now in your profession. And why are you taking up the sword for Seton Hall if you went to Rutgers Law?

Pretty sure SHU has more of a campus than Rutgers. Do I really want to take a bus to class? What is this high school?

Better a bus than needing bullet proof windows on your car.

And a bit odd to say that Rutgers somehow has less of a campus because the campus is so big that it needs its own bus system... that SHU degree seems to be working out great.

When we were in the same league, this game really mattered to me. I had countless epic wars with Seton Hall fans on these boards for a lot of years. Guilty of plenty of "hate" towards the Pirates back then...all of which they, their coaches and especially their players deserved for more reasons than need to be dredged up here.

Now,its just another relatively meaningless out of conference game for me, akin to what we played on Tuesday. If given the choice at this point in the program's development, I'll take a win against Maryland or Indiana 100 times out of 100 vs one over SHU.

I realize that I'm probably in the distinct minority here...but hey, I'm trying to think macro here.

I'd love to have a W on Saturday....if we don't get it...I'm not gonna be crushed. They are just better right now, and the only shame in losing to them would be to get blown out

I wouldn’t go as far as to equate it with a mismatch against Fordham but I share the macro view. And to me, unless you are trying to build a resume for an NCAA berth (which we are not) the out of conference schedule has become almost irrelevant. The conference record is really what I look at as the true objective measure of progress year to year because it’s a relatively consistent schedule. When all is said and done, you are mainly judged by how you compete with your conference peers and very few pay any attention to what happens before January. And if you gave me the choice of winning 6 Big Ten games or 5 and Seton Hall, I’d take the 6.

This is not a view I would’ve had when we were mired in the A-10 and trying to be relevant and Seton Hall was NJ’s Big East team and playing for championships. But a lot has changed since those days.

how about shoe actually wins a NCAA game before proclaiming they are final 4 bound. losses as lower seeded team the past 2 years.
they have better players than us, no question. they are not a smart team, not mentally tough, and not coached well...wilt under pressure.
give Mr MAAC credit, his assistant coach for players relief program worked years ago, now as seniors...didn't NCAA pass the "shoe rule" to make it harder to do this in future?
they should be better than what they have shown this year and in past years....they had no business losing to an undermanned URI team...

the game has some juice as an OOC game, esp given our OOC schedule...but I'd much prefer beating MD or Penn State or winning a B1G game over them...that is more important...

Beating these guys by 1 goes further in recruiting than if we beat Minnesota by 15.

if it means never having to step on that dump of a community college campus, then yea I’ll take a bus.
Also, I would take any of the five campuses of Rutgers over you over priced commuter school any day

The additional snow from round 2 (1/2" -1") should mainly be north of the Raritan and especially 78. Snowing lightly here with 1.5", but don't expect much more.

I am with you.

I would trade in a nanosecond, a loss to SHU for 6 or 7 wins in the Big Ten this season, rather than a win over SHU and 4 Big Ten wins. Strong Big Ten play will determine RU's basketball PROGRAM development and future, not wins or losses involving SHU.
