This is one of the most intriguing things Ash has brought to Rutgers. I don't know what's available to students today but I feel life this has to be expanded to the regular student body for Life After Graduation and I think it needs to be very, very heavy in both freshmen and sophomore years.

This is s little off topic but I feel like when I went to Rutgers which was 1988-1992, we had very little in terms of real companies coming in and sharing real job qualifications and earnings potential. There were maybe some voluntary events but how many college students are going to these things voluntarily. When you're in college, you're not thinking enough about exact career paths. You don't think about that until after you finish a BA degree there is so generic and means nothing in the real world.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just thinking about my younger kids and the guidance that I would like them to have. The sooner you know what at least you think you'd like to do, the sooner you could start seriously working towards it.

Kudos to ash for caring about these kids and making them realize that real life happens the minute you realize that either you don't make it in professional football or you do but when your career ends, sometimes it's abrupt and then what?

Ash is doing well as his life after football and off the field goals are most important. However, I don't think it's anything different from what Schiano started. Graduating players and making sure they find what they want to do in life has been a part of the program for while. First, it starts with the player/young man who you recruit.

The opportunities the athletes (& students in general) have is significant due to the RU's physical location in the NJ&NYC job market, this brings opportunities for kids for both internships and jobs. This really shouldn't be overlooked because it doesn't exist for many of our competitors.

I agree. The players who should come back to speak should be non NFL guys who have actually landed great jobs. Rutgers guys who played ball here and benefited from the connections.

- certainly would be good to have some NFL guys .... who had their 15+ minutes of fame ... - and then went on to make a career for themselves beyond football - in non-football profession - sales manager / director/ VP ... Financial analyst, Banker, Advertising executive, HR manager ... entrepreneur ... restaurateur... car dealership owner ... Teacher ... chemist... Doctor .. Lawyer on & on - - - a bit of the flavor of that NCAA commercial about athletes going "pro" .. in a long list of conventional careers

Hope that many of the players can grasp the great position that they are in .... you can never over stress the fact that these guys have the opportunity to acquire an incredible asset that will serve them throughout life - a college degree.

And you can never over-stress the fact that you never know what the future will bring - unforeseen opportunities can come your way - so do your best to be equipped to take the discipline that they have learned in sports and apply it to be able to capitalize on opportunities when they present themselves.

In college and beyond - a point to remember " Opportunities are never lost, they just go to someone else ". Another of life's little lessons that are many times learned too late !
