Defensive rebounding has been spotty today. Lot's a second chances for UMass.
And just as I say that, UMass gets about FOUR opportunities on one possession. We are getting KILLED on the defensive glass.

I've been following along with the stats, why have we gone away from Harper and McConnell?
Like that a lot. Hate the break the press and wait and set up the offense BS.. if they press.. make them pay for that.Because there really hasn't been alot of half court offense. Just breaking press and going straight to the hole. Helter skelter.
Best game of the year
Up and down game. We were able to break their press leading to a lot of layup attempts that kept the FG % up. But a very good game all around.Wasn’t able to see the game but followed this thread and the stats. Sounds like we missed a lot of bunnies but still shot FGs at 53%. Pretty damn good.

Just opened only last page of this thread. Didn’t we win by 25 and you’re complaining about what happened on one possession? And just as I say that, UMass gets about FOUR opportunities on one possession. We are getting KILLED on the defensive glass.

Again, one possession in a 25 point win. You're picking out a comment I made DURING THE GAME. Thrilled with the win. But it's also appropriate to point out concerns too.
kcg88, you remind me of the miserable RUJMM78 who sat in the next section to me for years. I was watching the game on BIG10+ so I didn't see this thread until after the game and wanted to see the early panic from the regular gloom and doom crowd and you guys didn't disappoint:Sad:. Relax and enjoy the games!
What about Pitt and Mich st?It's a good margin but this is why I hate the garbage schedule. The stuff that works against UMass doesn't work against Big Ten teams.
No troll. Pike is the best hoops coach we’ve had in a long time. Pat got it right.Must you troll in the game thread?
Harper has to be included .By FAR our best lineup is Baker-X-Mulcahy-Yeboah-Johnson
Best "X" options are Young and McConnell.
I use to think that way, but there's more parity with guys jumping ship early for the pros. Plus, guys train all year, so the gap between the haves and have nots is not as wide as it once was. It's a good margin but this is why I hate the garbage schedule. The stuff that works against UMass doesn't work against Big Ten teams.
Yes,sitting behind Rutgers bench. Is Big Cliff O one of them?
And Pike was worried about our D! And the season is still young! Can’t wait til they really get it cranked!Rutgers will win games because of their defense. We may not have the size insider like last year, but the pressure defense by everyone makes up for it. Also, I can see this team getting to the line a lot this year because we are driving to the basketball more than relying on outside shooting. I hope we can hit our free-throws.
Again, one possession in a 25 point win.
The missing of layups and failure to use the glass consistently is a definite flaw and the lack of help rebounding on the defensive end to help Myles is frustrating and will hurt us against bigger teams and those crashing the boards like, Michigan State, Illinois. The guards are big enough and have to rebound . So you are pointing out 2 of the things that have to be watched going forward .I commented a few posts above that one about how UMass was getting alot of offensive rebounds. So it was not just one possession, but a concern pretty much the entire 2nd half.
My unstated (in this thread anyway - I actually have said it in many past threads) premise is that our interior defense and defensive rebounding would be a season long concern without Eugene. So when I noticed our defensive rebounding struggling against a UMass team that was crashing the boards, I pointed it out.
Nothing wrong with that, even in a 25-point win against a fairly weak opponent.
