Lovett decommits

Never thought you would be lecturing people. For the record, I have said nothing negative about the program or the coaches, and I generally agree with you. But it is funny how some folks are singing a completely different tune this year. Guess it was OK to burn down the house while Flood was in it, but not now for some of these folks.

Big difference. Flood needed to be fired and as much noise was needed as possible. Ash needs support, positivity and most importantly, time.

we need to throw money at this problem... Admin has shown improvement to support athletics, but its not enough. We need more $$$ to overcome the flood disaster.

What the F----- are you talking about?!
I've been going to RU games for @ 50 years. No one wants to see the program to be more successful than me. I was "alluding to" the fact that when Flood's teams went into the toilet how that recruiting class fell apart. I don't want the same thing to happen here but the way the season is playing out it's a possibility. Thank God we have a kid in this class like Micah Clark who is sticking with us no matter what.
Know who you're talking to before you start throwing around insults.
Sorry for the insult, but from your posts I figured you for one of the many psu fans which have invaded our site. Would have never guessed you were an RU fan.

Just as a reminder: ecruiting went into the dumpster in 2013 for a few reasons, starting in October, that included but WERE NOT limited to on-field play. There was off-the-field stuff going on that began to be "rumored-about" as far back as summer camp, which help lead to the landslide of decommits that hit in Oct/Nov, and had nothing to do with on-field play.

Good points. I reacted without thinking. Never a good thing.

pretty much this... I supported Flood when he got the Job. He lost me quickly when i saw things were getting worse despite the fact we had top notch talent for the league we were in. Ash has even more time, He is in a tougher league, with worse talent and is starting from scratch.

Sorry, not buying that load of horse manure. Whether the fans liked it or not, tightwad Bob was not making a change in 2013 or 2014. Folks could have shut their mouth and bided their time. Fans should not shit on the current coaches, and try to maintain a positive tone for the recruits.

Agree. I was with Flood, even when I didn't want to, until close to the end.....and then proceeded to call for his head.

Boy, this was timed perfectly by Franklin. Fully expect him to commit to PSU Thu or Fri so it gets the biggest audience.

Anyone who follows recruiting even from afar like I do have known for a while the two most likely decommits were the 2 RB's. It would seem they'll end up where they wanted to be all along.

Some folks had some inside knowledge in 2013 and knew more than others on this board. Even so, it was clear Barchi was not going to spend the $$$$. That whole 2 days before the South Florida game basically gutted and emasculated Flood to the point he was a dead man walking. He brought it on himself, but he got absolutely no help or support from the sorry excuse of an AD. Compare what Ash has gotten from Hobbs.

Like the failed assassination attempt on Flood that netted us a painful bowel game against Va Tech and me 4 Kyle Flood bobblehead dolls that I have no use form?

No. There were already about 10 decommits by that time. Off-field stuff that's been talked about here - shot down by some - but things that happened and recruits knew about (remember we had a few kids quite the team that season as well...) and had very little to do with our awful play against VTech. That was a "lost locker room" that year and kids talk.

Schemes
I'm getting really tired of our so-called fans on this board doing everything humanly possible to convince our commits to go elsewhere. Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies.

Some of you need to learn how to STFU and keep your self-righteous negativity to yourselves.

Recruits: Listen to what the coaching staff is telling you. Ignore the know-nothing jerks on this forum who bash the coaching staff. They do not represent RU in any way and only want to see the program burn.
LOL
How dare you fanatics..

Don't have any recollection about any of that, as I hit a very dark period starting in January 2014 and carrying through July of 2014, and I blacked out on a lot of stuff from late 2013 until the end of 2014.

This is not on the fans or this site. The Kids watch TV and they see a team in disarray. Listen guys, this has been going on since Doug Graber. The football program is not supported, at least not like other schools. The professors and Deans are vocal and still have a great deal of influence. Also, when the cost of the medical school merger is divulged by the next Governor most on this site will need a Valium.

Robert Mulcahy and Greg Schiano truly wanted to turn this program around and you guys know what happened. Things are going to get far worse before they get better.

it will be a real kick in gonads if he goes to State PENN like Barkley did after RU decomitt

No problem.
I'm just worried that we can't hold this class together.

I think we can. Two RBs won't destroy the class. And I actually think we'll be good at that position and land at least another recruit this year. There's this kid from Maryland, Devin Darrington, that RU has been recruiting, even when both Lovett and Taylor were committed. Only 5'8" but physical as hell. And Micah Clark tweeted a photo of himself with his RB Chris Chukwuneke after their state game that said "Be careful what you wish for. RU here we come." Chukwuneke committed to Villanova over the summer but he's blown up this year. He's more of slasher, kid's got some quickness. Once he gets to the edge, he's pretty tough to catch. Both run the spread option at their schools which will only help. And we also flipped a kid from Navy Prep who's going to walk on. But don't let the walk on status fool you. I've seen his film and his a great in between the tackles, downhill runner. Wouldn't be surprised if he's awarded a scholarship after being with the team for a season.

I'm thoroughly annoyed at the total lack of situational awareness being displayed by some of our so-called fans at the moment, particularly in this thread. That explains the lecture. Basically, I'm venting a little.

There were two differences with Flood.

First, based on comments from current players (in private, as well as in public), from other coaches in NJ, from other coaches from programs where our coaches have coached, and on observing our coaches so far, this staff is huge improvement over Flood and crew (Fridge being the sole, one year exception).

Second, most people gave Flood several years. It had become clear he wasn't going to be able to get the job done and the off-field issues made his coaching ability moot. I didn't bash him, because doing so is always unproductive at best. But I understood those who did last season.

According to the timeline graphic, if true, he has a visit to Maryland on Dec 3rd.

Oh please. You think 2-8 doesn't speak for itself? 185-0 doesn't speak for itself? Yeah, they need people here to tell them not to come to Rutgers. Right. Keep convincing yourself of that.

I'm not one of those people you are talking about, as I never address recruiting -- ever. Even so, how do you expect a recruit to look at this season? If the school is right for him, and the coach is right for him, he'll still come, and nothing anyone here says will change that.

These high school recruits want to go somewhere to be on a winning team. Sadly our coaches aren't able to point to the win column while they are visiting recruits, and high school kids are smart.

You've completely missed the point. And you are making unhelpful and unprovable assumptions. You don't know for sure what will cause a recruit to honor or renege on his commitment to RU and neither do I. Each player is different. Each situation is different.

So let me ask you. Does people shitting all over the coaching staff help with that cause? Does people shitting all over the coaching staff help anything?

You're assuming that a recruit or a recruit's influential family member reading this thread right now will not be in any way affected by the toxic negativity displayed by some of our fans. But you can't know that. So my point is, why take the chance? Why do something that has no possibility of positive impact but does risk, no matter how slightly, turning off a prospective player?

The staff didn't sell recruits on coming to RU based on us having a good season this year. The record might speak for itself, but the record this season isn't indicative of what is to come as the program is revitalized by the current, excellent coaching staff. It doesn't speak to what heights this staff can take the team, or how quickly, if we get some great recruits like those who might be reading this right now.

Clueless fans that bash the coaching staff are doing nothing but undermining the coaching staff's message to recruits. Clueless fans that somehow think being "right" on an internet forum is somehow more important than being part of the marketing of the team to prospective recruits need to wake the hell up and get with the program.

And SB too.

Didn't he get an Iowa offer the last few weeks and then visited Iowa vs Michigan this weekend? Or am I mistaken?

Anybody who posts what you just posted is a jackass. You think two decommits is a surprise? You are a fool. Let's just hope the decommits and the foolishness both cease.
Are you doing everything you could be doing, right now, to prevent more decommits? Because it sure doesn't seem that way to me.

I hope our recruits are smart enough to think beyond the 2016 season.

I think the recruits are smart enough to realize that, on a winning team, they are likely to be red-shirted their first season and riding the bench the next couple before they get to actually experience that winning on the field. By which time, Ash will have our program turned around and winning games too. Ash can show them many examples of teams being turned around in a two to three years.

And he can honestly tell them that, at the moment, they have a better chance to contribute to winning here at RU sooner than they might at some winning program. And if they are from NJ, they can do that winning in front of their family and friends.

Should he be doing this? (does the average fan on a message board have the power to PREVENT decommits?
Not sure why any true fan wouldn't do it. And when faced with an unknown, it seems the best course is the one that can have a positive impact. Bitching about the staff can have no positive impact. Supporting the staff may not have an impact, but if it does, it will be positive.

Why are you still crying about Flood? We almost did replace Flood in 2013, when our recruiting class fell apart, btw. He was the most under qualified coach in BCS/P5 and should have never gotten that promotion. He didn't underperform ... he performed right where a mediocre O line coach jettisoned to HC would perform. He was given great talent, couldn't get it done and spun his wheels more and more. The board, like the administration, gave him through 2 years and it was disaster. Ash hasn't even gotten through 1, with scraps left.

The only horse sh3t is whining about Flood now. He's our past, wtf cares?

Dang. Visions of Flood's first class where all the WRs bailed and then everyone else bailed. Hope folks are right and just these two, else may have to dig up the Baghdad Bob gifs.

Ash needs to earn his keep in the next couple months. All the rah rah coach speak doesn't go far when you can't even produce a good gameplan in a game for months on end. I hate how recruiting is but if I was 17 years old and had schools knocking on my door, I sure as hell would want to see something, anything, that gave me confidence that the HC had a clue that he had any ability to turn it around and provide me an opportunity to produce and hopefully continue my career.

So far he has shown nothing and I am really disappointed to admit that.

Assume he does end up at Penn State. I respect the kid for decommiting before the game rather than come as a RU guest, or worse on an official, only to decommit a couple days later.
