Wrestling MATCH THREAD: Rutgers 🤼‍♂️ vs. Ohio State

Colucci escapes, and has the opportunity to tie the match with a takedown

Colucci unable to get any offense going, as Orndorff holds him off.

A 4-2 win gives Ohio State the 19 - 14 team victory

Colucci literally did nothing at 7 minutes. Absolutely nothing...such a waste of mat time.

How disappointing there for the taking now 0-7-1. Some bright spots, more disappointments, some guys who need to move on with their lives.

Just give me the young guys who want to wrestle. I don’t care about the dual score. Let Shawver , Turley, McDermott get the experience. Bottom line is this dual was lost by janzer. Kid tries and is a grinder but has no offense.

I’ll give Janzer a pass because he usually wins the matches he’s supposed to but as good as he can be, he has to stop making every match a tie 1-1 in the 3rd period. He’s shown he’s got an arsenal of moves from neutral, but he seems hesitant to use them for whatever reason.

Post match notes:
-Dylan Shawver should get a crack next week in the tri
-Kanniard and Poz will have great careers. Helluva day for those two, very happy for them
-Janzer wrestles hard, he just needs to broaden his offense. The underhook is not always the answer

Orndoff is a Man! You are not going to beat him getting in ties. He was the U23 Greco Roman rep....loves the position. Don't think any of our heavyweights could beat him.

ON a bright side, our basketball team looks like they break their losing streak against indiana

Not sure I can stomach watching Aguilar, Grello, or Colucci anymore. They bring nothing to the table. Zero excitement, zero offense, minimal effort and ultimately zero chance to win.

...I absolutely love the job Goodale is doing here. That being said, in order for us to take that proverbial 'next step' we need to start winning these types of matches against teams like OSU.

He needs to look in the mirror and have those tough conversations with a few guys. It's long overdue.

In order to take the next step we're going to need more Poz types. Early on in the ECAC we had teams that were great in the duals but didn't win anything in the NCAA. I'm not as concerned about the performance in the duals. What concerns me is the amount of wrestlers we have who might not even make nationals.

How stupid of Colluci has no mat awareness.

Kol, what were you referring to here? Not the one where he was locked up in a bad spot near the edge of the mat? I'd take a stalling caution at that point. The second stall was a pretty weak one on Colluci.

Another guy with 0 offense. Sigh.

Not many wrestlers are good enough to overcome 25-30 pound or more disadvantages to have an effective offense. OSU heavy just used his weight and bulk to push CC around. I think everyone here was hoping to avoid OSU bonus points at HWT so I'd say Colluci did his part and had the opportunity for a win or to push it to OT with a takedown. Janzer loss killed the match for RU...and Aguilar too. Nice to see Kannaird and Poz out perform what was expected.

This is a down year for OSU. But the recruiting woes at 165lb for 5 yrs. now is ridiculous. The obvious miss at 125lb is killing this team(money tied up). Hwt finally recruited a good one after years of futility, now he's playing football we'll see if he wrestles and 174lb I guess Grello gets points for longevity.

Just too many holes for this team to do anything at NCAA's. You need to send guys and we have plenty who won't be going. Without enough hammers you need guys who can at least AA and we don't have many. It's time to flush out some old blood and bring in some new. The guys that need to go, are who they are and it's not going to change.

I can't stand Colucci's ho-hum attitude. He walks off the mat like he's content with keeping it relatively close to rank guys. I don't know what the scoop with McDermott is but we might as well give him a shot based on that ridiculous performance. He just sits there with his head down counting the dust particles

Has Metzlars always been this tattoo'd?
Dont remember

edit, can you imagaine if Jordan Decateur came to RU and performed like he is?

After the 1st one he has to know not to play on the edge. Yet he continued to play on the edge. The hold was made on the edge causing him to go out. He's been in college wrestling forever, yet he still doesn't know after the 1st call you simply can't play the edge?

Goodale is great at getting us excited for the matches and building hopes. We just can break thru. What does it take. Is he too nice? Maybe we need Donny who is no bs. But lacks personality. Maybe an over reaction. It would just be good if we could win a big match.

Sure, but he literally did nothing and hasn't forever. When was the last time he had a big win against even an above average opponent.

Hint: you won't find one.

Gerald Angelo wrestling well at 149,,,not sure who he is wrestling against,,,,up 4-1 after 1

I love guys like Angelo...he's not the best wrestler, but he fights and always looks to score. Sure sometimes he gets greedy and goes for the big move and it always doesn't work out but he is aggressive.. he doesn't just sit back and submit to his opponent. I'd go with him everytime over guys like Grello, Aguilar, or Colucci.

Love watching Turley. He gives effort and does not give up easy points.

They said this match was 184, but I think it is 174.

Turley up 4-1 after 1.

Is Turley wrestling 184 now? Or did he just move up to get a match? Because he looks good but undersized.
