Actually it was 11! Single handedly took us from down 10-2 to 11-10 lead. And his defense is elite of elite. If he was on Duke he would be talked about as potential D POTY. Love the kid

1st stretch of defense on Carr, (hasn't scored in 1st 29 minutes of game today, mixed with Jacob Young)...ability to slow down opponents scorers. Mixed in timely 3s today. Still a sophomore....

I posted that metric. Mathis had a great all around game today. Happy for him and the team and I hope he continues playing as well as he did today.

Mathis has had some good moments and his decision making has improved, but his body language is terrible (he seems to mope and he doesn't seem like he's having any fun) and btw his defense is not as "lockdown" as some of you think.

Montez Mathis: Synergy Sports also grades him as the team’s second worst defender with 101 points allowed on 121 defensive possessions.

He's the fifth most valuable guard on the team after Geo, Caleb, Young, and Paul and can't be in at the end of the game due to his FT shooting, lack of a jumper, and ball handling. That limits Pike. I hope Mathis gets it together, but it's disappointing that he didn't develop his game better during the off season.

Just a couple of more comments and then I'll give it a rest. First, insofar as guarding a particular player, Mathis started the game guarding Durham, not Phinesee (their best guard) and I assume Coach had a reason for that. Second, Synergy seems to be a coaches tool that uses a lot of analytics (the statistic I cited is from an IU beat writer who probably subscribes to the site). Third, I take the statistic with a little grain of salt since defense has team concepts as well. Mathis rebounds well and runs the court well, but he is limited and is not the incredible defender that many seem to think he is.

Be my guest. Mathis had a great game today. Great offense to get the team rolling in the first half and great defense throughout. I hope it continues for him. Yeboah needs to be a more reliable contributor, btw, lol.

His defense today was magnificent. I love his intensity and he was not happy bring the brunt of some physical picks.

This game is one of many great games that shows how clueless and disruptive your post as well as just awful timing . Why don’t you count how many ways Tez affected the game today and his winning plays. When you get to 10 you can stop and realize think before you post.
