Maybe one day we'll have a coach that thinks like this

I'm just watching College Game Day and they are talking about the teams that have a chance to make the playoff: Indiana, Miami, Army, Pitt, etc. After all the money going into GS and the coaches, facilities improvements, etc., we are on the outside looking in, and looking in from a distance. Unacceptable after five years.

What about all the other schools not on the list whose coach has been there for more than 5 years?

The funniest is that Pitt made the list. Their coach has been there since 2015 and they finished 3-9 last year. You would have fired him because that’s not acceptable after 8 years.

Just like IU. Like I’ve said it’s year to year and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It can give hope that things can change fairly quickly. (probably for both directions)

Mind you Narduzzi has done a 180 on mindset for offense this year. Lowest TOP in the FBS to date and unusually and surprisingly, the defense has been okay to quite good so far.

SMU, Clemson and Louisvllle will be bigger tests coming up.

That is what I have been saying, how anybody can expect Greg to win more than 2 conference games a year without a new fieldhouse is just beyond comprehension.
Forget the field house ! Let’s just been a “fun” house . Can be like an exclusive , private type gentlemen’s club for top level recruits and good players . Bet you we see more results with that

In 2021 Pitt was 11-3 and 9-4 in 2022. And Narduzzi has had three other 8 win seasons since 2015, and only two sub .500 seasons. So no, I wouldn't have fired the coach after an off season. Now they are 7-0.

If GS went 11-3 and 9-4 the two prior seasons I would not criticize him for an off season. It happens. But GS has won 3, 5, 4 and 7 games in his first four years, and now has lost four straight with another win looking like a real task.

He has done a great job in year 1. I will absolutely wait to see if this is sustainable (I have my doubts). Sometimes people catch lightening in a bottle. If in 3 or 4 years, it looks like IU is a consistent contender in the B1G , I will concede my inclination was wrong. RU looked like a potential national power in 2006. It didn’t turn out that way and it had to do with the overall reality of competing at a high level year in and year out.
you should log off, get some rest and come back with a clue

9-4 in the ACC is at best 6-6 in the B1G.

It doesn’t matter if it’s sustainable. You play each year . Everyone is a free agent .
The only thing we have proved is stinking almost every year is sustainable for us
this is it in a nutshell as the game has changed. There are no more 4yr plans

if anyone says they wouldn't swap places with IU right now they are full of $hit

Wasted money on ineffective coaches. Just stop blaming NIL.
NIL will bring in good players and help make the program a good one.
But the coaches are the ones that make a team a winner and playoff contenders.
Lack of NIL money doesn't necessarily turn a program into a loser , just makes it very very hard to be an elite one with playoff possibilities
A good HC can make a low NIL bucks program a winner that goes to minor bowls every year.
Not having the type of NIL deals like other programs have isn't an excuse for any HC having a losing season, lack of NIL money would just be a valid excuse for not making the playoffs in most cases.

Agreed. Good thing we went to a bowl game last.

Are you lost ??
Who cares if it is sustainable ?
It’s happening now !!! Schiano may never have a season like cignetti is having right now
Closest he came was 2006 and after the Louie game the hurt came in Cincinnati .
Then 2 games later in Morgantown a close loos to the Mountaineers ended dreams of a BCS game
and the Texas Bowl win wasn't the ending hoped for .
Even if the 11-2 final record looked good on paper, it wasn't the ending I expected once Louisville bit the dust and the season was a bit of a disappointment

Louisville bit the dust?

Greg has always been a bad game day coach running an antiquated offense. He's also a decent program builder that is outdated in the era of NIL and unlimited transfers. So this is what we have to settle for. Unless we decide not to.
" decide not to" will be in 2027 or 28 at the earliest ,unless Schiano proves in 2025 he can overcome Rutgers NIL problems by making the players he can get into a team that will win enough to go to a minor bowl .
I would say 2027 will be Greg's make it or break it year because I feel his buyout , before then ,will be too high a price for Rutgers to willingly pay

Everyone was lathering Lance Leipold's balls for getting Kansas to 9-4 last year, and he was the flavor of the week. This year, he is 2-6/1-4. Mel Tucker also says hello. What is he doing now? Don't be dumb, Plum. @RUGuitarMan is right and a legend on this board.
Well I take my Chances with LL, he is a HOF coach

Well I’m back rested with a clue. You want to roll the dice with IU fine. We will see where it ends up. I make judgements over several years. IU is not going to win the B1G champ and the NC champ. They are having a great year for them. Again not unlike the RU 2006 year.

Rutgers has NEVER had a season like IU is having. You can't compare the 2006 season to what Cignetti is doing. Look what they did today on the road in East Lansing. They are averaging:
Offense Opponents
46.5613.67

How much is Indiana going to pay him?

ETA row the boat is looking pretty good right now. Surprised they recovered after we stole their #1 backup QB.

Curt Cignetti was on my short list back in 2019 look at the coaches that were in the FCS playoffs that year, I think Raheem Morris from Newark was an out of the box option in 2019 but seems to want to stay in the NFL.

Cignetti was 53-17(33-11) at IUP, 14-9(10-5) at Elon, one year at James Madison 14-2(8-0) lost in the FCS finals, 81-28(51-16) at the time in 2019 and coached 4 years under Saban 2007-10. And look where James Madison is now beating UNC at UNC after he left.

Spot on. If we can’t find 2 wins over the next 4 games that will result in us getting to only one bowl game in the last 4 years. Think about that in the 2.0 era. Not a foundation for a rebuilding program.

"All the money" ... what money?

i know we have very little NIL lol some posters are funny
Whatever little it was was spent wrong bringing back players that are injured right now , we should have spent it on depth

I think Shelby is wrong a lot on this board . But not wrong here.
Plum…Shelby only comments on Schiano’s ineptitude, doing so since well before the hire, and also Fieldhouse Al’s gross idiot-lunacy. Thus, Shelby has been lazer-accurate 99%. Things he was deemed wrong on at the time have proven correct.

The only thing Shelby was wrong on, was his opinion that Schiano wasn’t going to bring in AK to challenge GW, or later name him QB1.

This board was too hasty to dismiss Shelby’s views, yet almost all have come to share them.

No never. Because if he were that good a coach he would be too smart to come here. .The Death pit of college FB. Am I giving anybody the idea that I am fed up with our FB program?

We could put @mildone in charge of the hookers and blow. And the sheep, of course.

By the way, nice try on your thread - would've been interesting (and one would think we could have one such moderated thread here). I see a close win for H, fwiw.
