I read here that things looked good for us and this kid. I think a mod posted it. Oh well , get the next one

Hard hit for the staff. This is one they needed. If they couldn't close with him how does this bode about players a notch above him?

They will be fine. Jose was a winner, but not a do or die type or player. We will find someone that can do the job.

Our board gets every one pumped up. Recruiting is a silly, silly business.

Everyone calm down. While he was a very good prospect it is first real 'whiff' by the staff given how hard they tried. It happens.... things will get better.

Honestly, i wish the kid the best of luck..

Geo Baker is still coming and we will find as good or better option at point......GUARANTEED!

Exactly. Geo is our player that we need. Put ten pounds of meat on his bones, and you have a very, very good player. Just wait.

Good luck to Jose getting lost with the ACC powers, recruiting is a sleezy business. Especially with Pastner

I do but I also realize being in the mix and losing recruits isnt going to win us games and we shouldn't feel good for just being in the conversation.

We shouldn't be pissed either. Things like this happen when u r a perennial doormat.

This is the best staff we've had in a long, long, time.

Pissed is the not the right word. Dejection or resignation might be the better words.

As you say, it is our best staff in a long time. It is no secret this is the guy they wanted. All believed he was coming here all the way through this morning. Our staff pulled out all the stops. We are competing against another doormat (though less perennial). Despite all that we still lose out.

Just another disappointment, we're all used to them by now. On to the next recruit. This would have been a nice piece and great pick up, but some people were making it like he was going to be a savior. Maybe he turns out to be the next Jwill, more likely we don't hear much about him again. Good luck to him, and hopefully we get our next target.

Patience ... this is an incredibly high-credential staff - they made a very strong effort - and they will eventually land not just one - but many - great ones ...
- and Georgia Tech is a good school with an attractive campus - so there can be no bewilderment as to why they also proved to be attractive.

The wild card for every kid is the distance from home - some like it - some hate it - some find it to be a life transition-point blessing - some struggle with the lack of ability to frequently connect with their family support system - So like any kid choosing a college - just wish them the best & hope that this choice measures up to their expectations

Surprising choice to me. I've never had the sense that the people at GT care much about basketball.

Also doesn't seem like a good cultural fit. I wonder if he's ever wandered outside of Atlanta into Georgia, which you have to go through to get anywhere else. He'd better behave himself - those folks can carry guns everywhere now. Hopefully, he will reconsider. It just doesn't seem like a good move to me.

The scary thing is hoops is our best chance real success. Football an incredibly monumental uphill climb when you consider the resources we are up against. The same exist in hoops, but the numbers are smaller, thus more feasible.

Sometimes I think we should just allow our rev sports to be what they are while focusing on kicking ass in Olympic sports.

It might sound like sour grapes but it's not. I would have loved to get him. However, I'm not losing sleep over a 5'10 - 5'11'-ish 3 star guard. On the the next recruit.

Pikiell is going to have to up his game recruiting at this level.

The biggest thing that hurts is perception.

The kid himself is not great but the perception that you can spend a lot of time recruiting a local kid that did not have UK or Duke on him and still lose him is what hurts. That perception is what needs to be overcome.

Maybe the kid just wants to be an Engineer. Nobody beats Georgia Tech in that department. Hell I can't blame the kid, I had a fascination with trains when I was a kid too.

I agree with this. The kids film look decent and his ranking is very solid, but he doesn't look like a game changing talent. He is a local kid who we really wanted, who gave us more than a solid look, and wasn't knighted by one of the bigger national programs.

Not a must get to get to the next level, but close to it. Simply because of what he represented.

But not to be, and I think it has less to do with who was doing the pitching, and what that pitcher has to offer.

If you wanted a scorer in the 2017 class, then Baker fits that mold more than Alvarado. Alvarado was more of a pure point. Baker can flat out put the ball in the hoop.
