not good to lose a guy you were really targeting, no other way to spin it, Pikiell and staff will have to make up for it somewhere else and they will need guys even better than Alvarado if they want to turn things around

Hard hit for the staff. This is one they needed. If they couldn't close with him how does this bode about players a notch above him?

NO way... sudden interest in a southern school turns into a commitment for a school previously completely off the radar, for a kid who by all accounts wanted to stay home. Say it ain't so!

Assuming that real enforcement of the NCAA rules is never going to happen, we so desperately need bag men of our own.

whats going on with the Rac renovation, the practice facility, the Tax credits that had an expiration?? How can any coach recruit against a power five program with these Div2 level facilities?
Stop with the bag man stuff..that was an excuse Floodies used when he couldnt land the big 3 star or two star recruits.

Face it RU is behind the 8 ball when it comes to recruiting.
RU's MBB program doesn't have a glorious ( to point out) history since the Tom Young days and the promise of upgraded facilities isn't going to overcome the poor ones recruits see now.
Expect more whiffs than hits until RU's coaching staff starts proving RU can win and then the recruits will come .

The recruit locally paradigm is old school. It has not worked here in more than 25 years. History keeps repeating itself. Bridesmaid mentality. Are there athletes in Indianapolis and Michigan and Ohio and Chicago and Indiana and Illinois and Wisconsin who want to play in the Big Ten? NJ and NY and Philly are the Bermuda Triangle of Rutgers hoops recruiting.

I'm not in favor of undersized guards but I guess the coaching staff thought Alvarado was the best point guard that they could recruit right now.The inability to close the case with recruits has been a ongoing nightmare for decades. It seems Rutgers always is stuck with the leftovers after their top choices choose another school.Hard work by the coaching staff simply couldn't over come the perception of Rutgers mens basketball.Kicking the can down the road is one constant that long suffering fans have endured.

That's really what it comes down to. The NCAA is more interested in politics than enforcing their own rules. We all love BK. Dude is the best fan there is. He is what epitomizes RU basketball fandom. He should be recognized by the school officially.

At successful schools, BK is Happy Kukendahl from Blue Chips or Sam Gilbert during the UCLA Wooden era. They aren't organizing meet and greets. They are organizing payments to the family/"advisers", jobs, benefits to the players, whatever it takes. That's the state of D1 basketball. We can all pretend it doesn't matter or we can win other ways, but we can't. Duke couldn't.

This was not a case of sudden interest in a southern school that turned into a commitment for a school previously completely off the radar.

Alvarado took his official visit to GT a month ago. I mentioned in another thread that it was a great visit and that Alvarado raved about their facilities. Turns out that he really liked Atlanta and Josh Pastner.

Last Friday I also posted in other Alvarado thread "other than Zach (Brazille) being a NYer and approaching things from that point of view, I'm not sure why he is dismissing Georgia Tech. As of last night my understanding is that GT is right in the thick of things and that the kid likes the ACC."

Btw, that is not a knock on Brazille. All of us who cover recruiting are only as good as our sources. He must have had multiple sources telling him that it was Rutgers or Seton Hall and then his Tweets raised expectations in the Rutgers fan base.

Based on what little I was hearing, I just didn't understand why he was so dismissive of GT.

Other than the threads here and on the GT board, I did not follow Alvarado's recruitment closely but the signs were always there that GT was a serious player in this recruitment.

In fact, I was told that as of yesterday the kid had not told any school what he was doing.

On to the next one.

Wondering if we were really that close anyway. He didn't even take an official visit here from what I understand. This was probably a "done deal" a month ago and he just added some drama.

Any chance of flipping this one, or is the signing date too soon? Is this the sort of thing the coaches would continue to work on, or is this a sailed 'ship?

This is a different group running this program. I think we will feel it once the season begins. We have to roll with the punches. I sense the word FUN coming back to the RAC in the near future. Thanks. $$$$

Man I hate being correct. I really wish you and others were right with how to handle the direction of this program.

Need a wining season before we get the three star local kids, need NCAA appearance before we can think of getting a 4 star kid like the Naz Reid and company crew

The early signing period is in November. If it was football recruiting you'd still have a chance to flip him. Verbal commits aren't worth much with many football prospects. They commit and still visit other schools. I don't understand that at all.

The same guys who expect instant gratification at HPSS on Saturdays are expecting the same here. Can you give these guys some time to settle in. ?Coach has taken over a jalopy of a program. You start with spare parts and then you get factory new..

Vin Vetrone has it right in his tweet...

I'm sure some here have the long view of this, and understand what this game has become. Don't see it getting better for RU anytime soon.

Best bet is believe in the staff, trust the kids will get better, and break ground on new facilities ASAP. That is the only path this program to take...no shortcuts available

The lack of a Practice Facility is still an albatross around the neck of recruiting. Been saying it 3 years since we joined the B1G. Russ Woods said Alvarado raved about the Georgia Tech facilities....obviously they are big time and we are still the pee wee league.

Ground needs to break before the 2018 recruits start visiting and deciding.

While I appreciate that sentiment about what my wife and I do, we've never been in it for that sort of thing.

That said, I've had my fair share of recognition from RU on an official level, not sure anyone here would care about all that though.

RU has been incredible to my wife and I for a lot of years...I feel they've given back just as much, if not more, as what we've given them.

Looking forward to getting Court Club season underway here in the next week or so, and we are working together on some great new ideas which we hope will help restore some pride in the program for all involved.
Couldn't do any of that without the great people within the athletics department at all levels!

It is a positive we were in the game. If coach is the right coach we will get players eventually.

Close means nothing....the last staff was close with Parker (he even committed) and Jenkins and Bashir Ahmed. 2nd place means nothing.

Gotta get the Practice Facility going, the importance is magnified when the recruit raves about the facilities at the school he just selected.

Happy to hear that, BK. I know you do it all for the right reasons. My point was less about you being the great fan that you truly are, and what we know is going on at other schools with their boosters. I think with proper facilities we can have a decent program. Decent meaning winning records, NCAA every once in awhile type of program. To actually be truly competitive, I don't believe we, or any school for that matter, can do so without playing the game. It's just too prevalent it seems and goes completely unchecked. At Rutgers, I'm not even sure we could hire a coach who would deliver a star talent. I think the general population would go apeshit over something so ordinary, nevermind the real stuff we know is happening.

+1 for using "jalopy" in a sentence. Haven't heard that in a while and it made me laugh....and feel old...lol.

Some things are better left unsaid, but MAN, would I LOVE to know the truth in how GT got Alvarado.

Not the one side who say really annoying things like, "Don't you think it's possible Jose just wants to go to a good engineering school?" (People peddling that stuff seem to be so ignorant of how the recruiting game that is played. And they come off VERY annoying in their posts.)

And the other side implies there must have been some shadiness.
(This is my guess, but too many here dismiss that as a possible reason. Those people are annoying, too.)

That is why I wish we could get a little more info as to what the heck is really going on.

He went there because he liked the school and Pastner's track record as a coach blows away Pikiell's tenure at a stony Brook. One guy went to 4 straight NCAA tournaments and coached under Calipari the other guy did not. Enough with this conspiracy crap. Shoes should shut his mouth and go to the next guy. You lost be a man move on there are other good players out there go get them enough with the excuses.
