Miami is the epitome of delusional.
From Diaz Yahoo article:
"Diaz, the son of a former Miami mayor, was given just three seasons with the Hurricanes before the school — which currently does not have an athletic director. . . "
"To get things turned around in 2020, Diaz hired Rhett Lashlee to run the offense and added D’Eriq King to play quarterback. It paid off as the Hurricanes moved into the top 10 amid an 8-1 start before closing the year with two losses.
King got hurt in the 2020 bowl game and then again early in 2021 as the team started 2-4. With King out, the Hurricanes pivoted to Tyler Van Dyke at quarterback. He had some early struggles, but he and the Miami offense put up big numbers as the season progressed."
-----
Tyler Van Dyke had a very solid freshman year. 2931 yards, 25 TDs, 6 INTs.
And let's look at their losses:
Alabama- can't count that against him.
Michigan State 38-17 (that's almost the same score RU lost by- we are as good as Miami!!!)-not a bad loss
Virginia 30-28
UNC 45-42 - really, no shame in losing by 3 points, but I guess so.
Florida State 31-28. Thou shalt not lose to Florida State in a down year?
Seriously, WTF with Miami fans and boosters? Three losses by 2-3 points each. Second place in the ACC Coastal. Three years into his tenure with his best QB out for the year gets the Mayor's son fired.
Was there something else Diaz did wrong?
Interesting comment by a reader under the story about Cristobal:
"Great recruiter, terrible coach, both in preparation and game management. FSU took "Slick Willie" off Oregon's hands, and Cristobal is just like him. Talks great, recruits great, but absolutely cannot coach, and will not let assistants do their job. Good luck Miami. Just like Florida State, you will rue this decision. In the long run, you have done Oregon a favor. Now they don't have to pay anything to fire him and you get to pay them to buy out his contract. It's a win - lose situation. Oregon wins, you lose."
