overall pretty good effort tonight just could never catch MSU once they started off hot in the 2nd half and we went 7 minutes with just one bucket from the field (kiss 3).

- Caleb McConnell might have just needed some extra minutes while knowing he wasnt getting pulled. Man was that a different kid out there tonight. If he can play a solid 8-10 a night that would really change things. I’d also LOVE to see how mcconnell looks running the point with Geo at the 2 where I think Geo would be more natural. Mcconnells length disrupts small guards as it did with the little white guard on msu tonight. And mannnn did i love that dive for the loose ball!

- Eugene is giving me nightmares of Deshawn Freeman over the past couple games. Hes catching the ball on the wing, and the offense stops. He puts his back to the basket and hes decided no matter what hes getting a shot up. Hes gotta get that ball out. Either try to make a quick move or kick it.

- We got DESTROYED on the offensive glass. Way too many second chances. Cannot have that if youre trying to knock off a top 10 opponent. Mich state also got away with a ton of contact underneath. We had good position but they kept getting rebs. If you rewatch the game youll see how MSU goes up for boards on the offensive glass. It’s a subtle move but when they jump for the balls they subtly bump our guys on the way up. It rarely gets called because theyre damn good at doing it.

- We had no answer for Nick Ward in the post. He was also getting away with some contact when establishing position. It was tough to collapse and dig on him in the post because they had some dangerous 3 point shooters who we managed to keep in check.

- Peter Kiss looked pretty good but he continues to be red hot or ice cold. He was hot for the first 21 minutes then went ice cold. Unfortunately when his 3 point ball isnt falling he’s a pretty below average player.

-Overall it’s obvious we’re missing 2 things to take the step to becoming a tourney team and that is a go-to secondary scorer other than Geo and another PG to allow geo to play his more natural position at the 2. Luckily we have Mulcahy coming in now just need to sign a sharp shooter. I must say that, I’m confident Harpers shot will come and he may just wind up being the 2nd missing piece to the puzzle. We shall see

Good observations . Mich state is a tough physical team that pounds the glass. We battled them in there but they just have more experience and toughness right now .

I think geo being out for so long hurt his rhythm . He was red hot early then had to sit fir so long . Tough getting back in rythm .

I was pleased with Mcconnells effort and poise tonight and hopefully it carries over because we are going to need him .

I wish Kiss would take it to the rim more or develop a pull up game like geo . He has the physical ability but it shouldn’t be three or nothing.

Thought Myles battled in there abs made good post moves . Kid is only going to get better .

Gene needs to chill out a little more . He isa mini Draymond emotionally and he gets too carried away sometimes . The intensity and emotion is what makes him great but also kills him sometimes like points tonight . He can’t force up crazy shots and go one on one as he did tonight . Needs to play within the offense more abs continue to keep the ball moving .

Overall it was a good effort but not enough juice in second half. They outplayed us which is expected when they are better abs have more experience .

good points all around. Eugene tries to do too much at times, needs to refine that and its may be the only thing holding him back from becoming a complete player. I liked Kiss game tonight and vs Miami because he didnt show up against weaker. I think he will get his but like you said hot and cold and I think RU is a team that once some shots go in, they get on a roll..we saw that when they cut the gap to 6 tonight, offense seemed to be rolling more in sync which was missing the first 12 minutes of the half.

We are not a tourney team so I hope this game opens peoples eyes. We can play at a high level but there just isnt enough this year to do it on a consistent basis

Great point about McConnell’s dive on the floor. That was the play of the game, if only we could have converted the ensuing shot on offense.

I would like to see Peter Kiss be more aggressive and drive more. He settles for too many threes.

I love Eugene’s overall vastly improved skill set, but I said the exact same thing about his last 2 games — way too Freemen-like with forcing the ball up against double teams. Hopefully, coach will fix that. But, his effort on the boards tonight against a great MSU front line was great!

Eugene was a little our of sorts at times but he was coming off a quick turnaround he had a double double and he is a great defender. Other than they played the same position the comparison to freeman is stupid.

Not stupid at all, as the comparison is solely related to his recent habit of forcing bad shots. That has to stop.
