overall pretty good effort tonight just could never catch MSU once they started off hot in the 2nd half and we went 7 minutes with just one bucket from the field (kiss 3).
- Caleb McConnell might have just needed some extra minutes while knowing he wasnt getting pulled. Man was that a different kid out there tonight. If he can play a solid 8-10 a night that would really change things. I’d also LOVE to see how mcconnell looks running the point with Geo at the 2 where I think Geo would be more natural. Mcconnells length disrupts small guards as it did with the little white guard on msu tonight. And mannnn did i love that dive for the loose ball!
- Eugene is giving me nightmares of Deshawn Freeman over the past couple games. Hes catching the ball on the wing, and the offense stops. He puts his back to the basket and hes decided no matter what hes getting a shot up. Hes gotta get that ball out. Either try to make a quick move or kick it.
- We got DESTROYED on the offensive glass. Way too many second chances. Cannot have that if youre trying to knock off a top 10 opponent. Mich state also got away with a ton of contact underneath. We had good position but they kept getting rebs. If you rewatch the game youll see how MSU goes up for boards on the offensive glass. It’s a subtle move but when they jump for the balls they subtly bump our guys on the way up. It rarely gets called because theyre damn good at doing it.
- We had no answer for Nick Ward in the post. He was also getting away with some contact when establishing position. It was tough to collapse and dig on him in the post because they had some dangerous 3 point shooters who we managed to keep in check.
- Peter Kiss looked pretty good but he continues to be red hot or ice cold. He was hot for the first 21 minutes then went ice cold. Unfortunately when his 3 point ball isnt falling he’s a pretty below average player.
-Overall it’s obvious we’re missing 2 things to take the step to becoming a tourney team and that is a go-to secondary scorer other than Geo and another PG to allow geo to play his more natural position at the 2. Luckily we have Mulcahy coming in now just need to sign a sharp shooter. I must say that, I’m confident Harpers shot will come and he may just wind up being the 2nd missing piece to the puzzle. We shall see
