MIDLANDS

The Purdue kid beat Delvecchio last year in the NCAA and then lost to him in the wrestlebavks on a defensive pin.

Team scores after Day 1: 1) Iowa - 96 2) Nebraska - 78 3) Rutgers - 56.5 4) NC State - 49.5 5) Northwestern - 42.5

what a crazy day...ending it with two pins after none all day. And our semifinalists are Gravina & Hrymack. congrats guys.

Unless I forgot how to read brackets, which is certainly possible, Girlado and Hrymack are the semifinalists.

I believe Gravina is already guaranteed a top 8 finish after DeChow forfeited.

Gravina next opponent, Corey Grigo, lost to Dechow in first match, then has had good wrestlebacks.
Champ. Round 2: Jack Dechow (Old Dominion) over Corey Griego (Oregon St.) (Dec 13-7)
Cons. Round 2: Corey Griego (Oregon St.) over () (Bye)
Cons. Round 3: Corey Griego (Oregon St.) over Lance Dixon (Oklahoma) (Maj 12-2)
Cons. Round 4: Corey Griego (Oregon St.) over Joe Ariola (Buffalo) (Dec 7-2)
Cons. Round 5: Corey Griego (Oregon St.) over Ben Schwery (South Dakota State) (Dec 6-1)

I think Gravina will face the winner of Rend vs Griego

SO does Ash have to beat mccate to get in top 8?

Ashnault just needs to beat Sabatello to secure a top 8 finish. If he beats Sabatello then he'll wrestle the winner of Mecate and Gross for a top 6 finish. I think the key for Ashnault is to focus on one match at a time and not look ahead.

Thank you.
Just looked at updated brackets on Trackwrestling.

Perroti has a rematch with A Wilson (#2 Seed) to place.

I think it is realistic we have 6 or 7 medal winners and 1 finalist.
That would be an excellent team effort.
The Depth of the team has grown tremendously the last 2 years.

How about Hayden Hrymack! I love the way he wrestles. It drives me nuts sometimes, but he fights hard and is very entertaining to watch. He's actually a very good wrestler too. Let's give him the props that he deserves!

IroniaHorse, no need for the attack. All he's saying is that the thing stopping Billy from winning matches against AA-level wrestlers is a mental block (lack of self-confidence).

Something Billy and Coach Goodale have alluded to in the past, as well.

Agree that Hayden deserves props for his performance yesterday. In addition to Giraldo it seemed like Theo and Phil wrestled really well yesterday as well. They need to figure out how best to bring Theo back into the line up next year.

He CANT beat him? Never thought you knew much about wrestling...

Bill knows these kids better than anyone on here... But most everyone on here who has watched Billy wrestle the past 4 years will tell you that his comment is 100% spot on...Goodale even alluded to it in his post Nebraska presser...Its the one thing that has held Billy back from being a multiple time AA...

Billy is just painful to watch in those matches. Every time he goes down by 1 or 2 and then hand fights until the buzzer. Half the time he never even takes a shot, or, like yesterday, he does it with 1 second left.

As far as today, everyone who is in wrestlebacks needs 1 win to finish top 8. I guess Gravina is getting his win by forfeit, so he is already top 8.

Bill Garbarini is voice of the program or these forums. We new what he was saying and all agree with him. It amazes me that Cabell from NI gets beat by guys Smith destroys but for some reason Smith cant come close when these wrestle. If Smith wins his first match then he gets Jenson again from Nebraska and he knows he can beat him so he will. Same thing with Lawson from Okl. He is in the semi finals with a good shot to make finals and Smith owns him as well.

Several things. First I love Billy Smith and have talked to him in practice more times than you guys have posted on here. As Scott has said he has all of the talent in the world but it is pyschological with him and Stoll is in his head. If he is ranked ahead of a kid and he thinks he can beat him he will. Sad but true. He has been a wonderful ambassador for our program and we should remember him for that. Gravina beat Grigo from Oregon State in our dual match I believe.

Wasn't he ranked ahead of Stoll the first time they met?

Billy Smith can be frustrating to watch sometimes! Having said that, I'm going to miss him next year when he moves on... I still think he can AA this year - he certainly has the talent...

What a win by Giraldo vs Hall! I loved it!

Man, that Princeton kid who beat Anthony was fantastic... Although he lost, I think Anthony can take him next time they meet.
