As tough as a loss this was tonight (and I feel like someone stabbed me in the stomach as I still feel sick to my stomach and sure I will for days), kudos to Montez Mathis for playing an unbelievable defensive game on Jordan Bohanon.

Montez was busting his ass never giving Bohanon any space and sticking to him like glue. For Bohanon to get open, Iowa had to run double / triple screens and still Mathis would find him.

Amazing effort that will probably not be discussed much given the way we lost, but Montez was exceptional.

Good post, and earlier in week I wrote I wanted Mathis to guard him.

He wore Mathis out. Mathis did an amazing job, but when he was at the free throw line at the end, you could tell how exhausted he was. I think that's why he missed at the line.

great post Phil because Mathis was outstanding on Bohannon and I dont want people to get down on Mathis for missing his free throws, a large part of the reason why RU still had a chance was because of Mathis. Not one other player could have done a better job limiting him..3 points first half and then 2nd half, he made some late in the shot clock daggers and managed to get to the line

his free throw shooting wasnt good on his earlier shots as well. He has to get better, simple as that. B

The reason RU was in position to win was because of MM’s defensive effort.

Seeing replay of inbound throw no doubt in my mind throw has no chance of being caught in a position by an Iowa player to get up a shot in the time allotted if a RU defender is up in the face of inbounder. Inbounder was right up on the line to throw in with no impediment on his throw. It was like a qb throwing a hail Mary from the line of scrimmage with no defensive linemen lined up on the line. Bad strategy by Pike not to guard inbounder.

Loss still hurts.
