Myles Johnson Hands and Passing

Of the guys nentioned in this thread, I think Biruta and Echinique had the most upside.

Biruta was like 6'8 and came ready to play. He was more of a high floor low ceiling kind of guy IMO. Not someone I'd say had a ton of upside.

Biruta was one of Rice's targets in practice his first year, and he transferred to get out of that situation. Did much better at Rhode Island, but I think his development suffered because of clashes with coaching. If he had Pike/Young in his first two years, I think he'd have had a higher ceiling.

Myles has the most upside both offensively and defensively. He has low post moves, a center’s body, his footwork is already improving and his bank shot off the glass should be automatic soon. We have not seen the drop step since Game 1 or 2 but I expect to see it soon. Plus he is an excellent passer and keeps the Bball high so he doesn’t get stripped like most big men. Tremendous Bb IQ. His defense is what he must work on, to slide his feet and bang without fouling. His block shot potential with his wing span or even altering shots will also likely improve.
I have not been this excited about a legit center at Rutgers since Hinson although Greg Echnique had me excited until Rice blew it up. He does not have Bailey potential but Hinson got better and better every year and I predict Myles will be better and better. He will go from 5pts as a frosh, to 8-9 as a soph, 12-14 as a junior and I fully expect him to add a jumper and he goes 15-18 his senior year . This was a great Pike recruit.

I agree with this. Honestly, all 4 freshmen have the potential to be really good here and develop a ton.

I think alot of people will disagree with your hands assessment at this point in his career. Crazy type of upside if he get develop and mean nasty attitude. He's too nice and soft out there

Johnson is especially adept at the outlet pass. Pikiell also calls him “a good shot-blocker, with great hands.”

From Carino article in Oct. Pikiell would disagree with you.

what'd you want him to say, he's not worth a shit and has poor hands? lol. Man some of you people don't stop with me. I've said, I think his ceiling is extremely high but he's still raw and doesn't know how to use his size to his advantage completely yet, his hands arent as good as they will eventually be. I mean if you want I can pull quotes of him speaking highly of issa, kiss, bullock and souf too. damn

I rewatched the last 5 minutes of the Nebraska game, and I came away impressed with Johnsons play..... he hit a couple of baskets, rebounds, etc....when it really mattered....

I know a bit earlier he had a play where he blew a layup then immediately fouled the defender, out of
frustration .... an understandable thing for a frosh that we can hope he learns from

He has to learn how to control a rebound. He's good at grabbing a ball one on one, but not so much if he has to contend with multiple players. Instead of grabbing at it, learning to tip it to yourself for better positioning is important. This way he is really able to take advantage of his size. It's mostly a reaction not a thought process.
