Nebby's bubble just went flat...lost to ILL..ouch.

Illinois is going to become a top tier B1G team under Brad Underwood.

Frazier is really good, Dosunmu coming next season. Some think he ends up getting Courtney Ramey that’s a REALLY loaded backcourt. If he finds a serviceable big man, they'll be good very quickly.

Yes, impressed by how they are coming together. You can see the improvement.
We need to be ready senior day.

And Illinois has a top 50 player..believe he may be a 5*.....coming into the program next year....I saw Underwood in the NCAA's several years back coach Austin Peay (?) to a win over West Virginia. He's a good coach.

These rapid turnarounds, like at Illinois and Auburn, never happen in Piscataway. Does Illinois have a top-notch recruiter on their staff? Any similarities between Underwood and Pearl?

Stephen F. Austin. Underwood is an excellent coach. Oklahoma State should not have let him get away.

Illinois has had just one sub-.500 season since 2000.... we've had 14.

As for Auburn, Bruce Pearl went 15-20 his first season, then 11-20 his second, before turning around to 18-14 in his third..... it's his fourth season that they're finally making noise and going back to the postseason.

Some teams actually rebuild within 5 years while others trip along the way and its just a continuum of futility .

comparing us to Illinois is asinine.

I agree that Illinois is a bad comparison to Rutgers.Identifying schools with such sustained futility are probably few and far between.Changes in coaching staffs and players during the last 3 decades haven't changed the status quo.

Boston College. Last two years they had a total of 16 wins. Winning record this year.

How about ASU being pretty subpar the past few years and all of a sudden having a very solid season and going to the NCAA Tourney.

How can a small catholic school have a winning record with all the powerhouse schools in the ACC?

How about ASU being pretty subpar the past few years and all of a sudden having a very solid season and going to the NCAA Tourney.

Hurley won 15 games each of his first 2 seasons at ASU and that was taking over from Herb Sendek who had won 61 games the previous 3 seasons and was .500 or better in conference play each season. They haven't been down too far or for too long.

Sendek was fired despite five 20 + win seasons and going 22-13, 21-12 and 18-16 his last three. That's when you really get disenchanted with college athletics. Hurley has done a nice job but stepped in it...

Hands-down the hottest female student population in the nation. All So-Cal girls who couldn't get into UCLA or SC and want to get "way" but a quick flight home. Also the daughters of hot chicks who did it a few decades ago. Oh...and #'s...there are pools outside of just about EVERY dorm. No worries about the "heat" IMHO!!

If you've ever been to ASU you would wonder why they are bad at anything

Great weather , great campus , killer coeds.

Sorry, couldn't pay me to live in that ridiculous heat and in the middle of nowhere, but that's me...

I thought Phoenix was fairly close to the ASU campus. Don't think it is in the middle of nowhere, although that would be a plus for me.

I would imagine its quite lovely especially with low humidity, better than crappy cold winters here

Been to AZ several times - great place to visit when it's spring or fall and it possesses extraordinary natural beauty (been to all the AZ major parks), but that's about it. Brutally hot for 4-5 months of the year, no ocean nearby, crappy food, and the biggest cultural attraction is Phoenix? I'll take NJ any day of the week: temperate climate, the Jersey Shore close by, great diversity and restaurants, tons of cool/interesting towns and cultural things to do in NJ and, of course, very close to NYC and Philly two major cultural centers in the US.

Not sure anyone is comparing us to Illinois. Just looking for the formula that pulled Auburn and Illinois out of the dumpster in a decent time period.

Well, Illinois was never in the dumpster to begin with. They've missed the postseason just twice in the last decade.

Can make an argument that Auburn was in the dumpster (though not as deep of one as we were) having gone 5 straight seasons under .500 from Jeff Lebo's last season through Tony Barbee's four seasons... but it took Pearl to his 4th year to get them back to the postseason. Hopefully Pike can do the same by his 4th season.

Edit to add: Pearl brought in a *massive* class in 2015, with 7 players - 4 of which were rated four-stars. In 2016, he followed that with a 5 player class - 2 were five-star, and 1 was four-star - and added a former-four-star grad transfer. That was a complete roster turnover in those first two years. And even then, with a roster with 2 five-star and 4 four-star players among the 7 players with the most starts.... they still went 18-13 (7-11) and missed the postseason.

This was a terrible loss for Nebraska and here I thought they would or at least should be dancing. NIT here they come.
Nebraska hosts State Penn for their final regular season game + has the B1G Tournament.

Still on bubble, just the wrong side of it...at this point in time.

Russ, IMO they would have to beat PSU and maybe win at least 2 games in the B1G to wipe the stain off this last defeat.

agree...and they have to play their way in..and others have to play their way out. As it stands now there are so many teams that have solid quadrant 1 marks while Nebby as nothing..this is big. Those teams are not losing those wins and Nebby has limited chances to get them. They are going to need to make the Big 10 finals IMO which means beating a Michigan State type team in the semis assuming they finish 4/5. They need to beat PSU, they need to be Michigan/PSU in the Big 10 quarters.

A lot can still happen, especially if they are currently in the first four out.

That is because Rutgers, for better or worse, will not pony up the cash to get a coach with Underwood's resume. When you throw a six year, $18 million contract on the table, the rebuild process tends to go faster.

Penn State is in better shape than Nebraska
For now, but not by a whole lot. If I had to guess, State Penn is in the last four in and Nebraska is in the first four out.

Both State Penn and Nebraska's goals are in front of them. Win their final regular season games and get as deep into the B1G tournament as possible.

The turnaround at Auburn has not been all that rapid. They won 15 games in Pearl's first season and just 11 in his second season. Underwood is creating his own turnaround scenario. Last season Illinois won 20-games overall and 8-games in the B1G. This season Illinois will fall short of both of those win totals.

Orlando Antigua and Jamall Walker are both excellent recruiters and they added Ron Coleman who is plugged into Chicago.

Underwood and Pearl are both good in-game coaches.

Bracket Matrix update this morning has PSU as 5th team out and Nebraska 14th out, though when you get that far down not as meaningful the way they count it.

Nebraska 14th team out is absurd, Ive just been doing my analysis and there arent even that many schools in the running.
