RAPID REACTION - Wagner

We’re a smaller team and rebounding will be a challenge, but the effort was there. Saw our guards going for boards and that’s what we’ll need - gang rebounding.
Our rebounding issues aren’t because we are a smaller team. Both are centers and Bailey are around 6’10”. With the exception of Davis all our scholarship players are 6’4” or taller.

Do we really have to do the Simpson thing again with @G- RUnit ?

Simpson was a historically bad shooter last year. One of the lowest eFG% in the last decade in all of college basketball

And he shot at a high volume, compounding the problem
Nobody else could shoot and more importantly create their own shot. Again my primary point is JMike just as bad if not worse and getting all these kudos. Simpson was ripped to high heavens. Just pointing out hypocrisy.

That wasn’t really what I was saying. We’re smaller in the front court (relatively speaking) but I believe our guards are big and strong enough to help mitigate any disadvantage that we may have.

No hypocrisy from Shelby. Shelby called them DSelfish and JMiss, the Chucker Twins, all last year. And if forced to keep one, it would be Simpson all day long. Better defender, ball handler and capable of finishing at the rim. Neither one can shoot jumpers.

Simpson wasn’t better than anyone in Division 1 basketball at finishing at the rim. His 32.9% Close 2 rate may be the lowest since that stat’s been recorded. And he shot 82 of them last year…

How do they define ‘close’ ? And I’ll bet they don’t factor in getting fouled and getting FTs.

Regardless, point is he’s better than Davis at everything. And I’m not biased. I didn’t like either if them.

Jmike actually has a decent mid range game, his foul shooting seems better, his on ball defense is very good, and his 5 assists lead the team, if he doesn’t shoot the ball his assist go down, so 4 or 5 shots in 20 plus minutes is fine, one night doesn’t prove a lot, it will be interesting to see what he does this year. The big has some smaller quicker guards this year so Jmike will get his minutes and rightly so.

Sigh...

Simpson was and is not better than Davis at everything. Far from it.

Simpson was en excellent defender. But Davis was and is better. Davis is an elite defender. Your "opinion" on their relative defensive skills, or actually anything basketball related is completely valueless if you cannot see that.

Simpson WAS the better FT shooter, by a large margin.

Simpson was NOT the better shooter overall. It is true Simpson was a better 3 point shooter, a stellar 28% to Davis' 21%... Note that Simpson was at 21% 3 pt fg as a freshman. But overall, Simpson was literally the worst FG shooter in the country, at under 31%!!!! And an eFG% of 31%. And a 2 pt fg% of... 31%. Davis was a poor shooter, but his overall FG % was 37%, his 2 pt fg% was 41% and his eFG% was 39%. Davis was "helped" by taking very few 3 point shots - just 36 in 31 games. Simpson took twice as many 3 pointers.

Davis was the better rebounder, also.

And all this comparison was Davis as a freshman vs Simpson as a sophomore.

And yet, you can decide after just ONE game what Davis will be like as a sophomore. Right...

are you deciding JMiss is better after one game into sophomore year ? I’ve said ‘body of work’, not 0-3. So, based on body of work and the eye test Shelby has decided he will not prove to be as good as Simpson.

Further, what is Davis ? He’s certainly not a 1. Is he an undersized 2 ? Simpson could play both better.

Simpson left because he saw the handwriting on the wall that he’d have much less PT this year than he could elsewhere, same reason as Griffiths.

Davis is still here because Ace is joining him. He is not here because Pike ‘decided’ he’d get more PT than Simpson. Simpson is clearly better and left for greener pastures.

Can you please stop calling him JMiss? He’s one of our players who works really hard, and it’s disrespectful and insulting to hurl that kind of insult to one of our guys. You may not think he makes enough shots, and it’s your right to criticize his play, but stop with the infantile insults please.

Don't assume that this poster actually supports Rutgers.

Let me guess, you voted for the guy who had negative nicknames for everyone. Why so sensitive and protective now ?

I’ve been called much worse here and don’t care. And opponent players get called a lot worse here. Those insults are ok but our players are off limits ? Gotcha

People get sensitive about our team when trolls like you continually target certain players a s denigrate them over and over again. You bully some posters as well and you also run and hide when proven wrong. A growing number have you on ignore. I'm sticking around though watching you eventually get banned.

Love that you refer to yourself in the 3rd person ( several times now). Not... Though it does say worlds about you, and not for the positive.

Davis is a PG... A type of "1". Williams is also a type PG, though more in the mold of what they call a "lead guard" rather than a pure PG. Harper is also a type of PG, like Williams a "lead guard", though of course way more skilled or talented than Williams. Simpson was a purer PG (like Davis) though he tried to play like his stated hero, Baker, and tried to be a lead guard.

One problem with Simpson is that RU needed him to make the jump from pure PG (as he was most of his freshman year) to lead guard last year, but he failed, and his shooting took a nose dive.

If everyone has him on ignore he'll just be trolling into the abyss
