Never thought I would say this but Go Penn State!

Weird night as a could never root for either of those teams vs. anybody.
I am, however, still trying to figure why Pedd State went for it with 40 seconds left in the game and the ball on their own 15 yd. line. Who doesn't take a knee in that position and take your chances in overtime ?

I only became a fan in 05- what exactly is the ND hate?
For me at least it’s the large contingent of their popularity that’s based on their mascot.
It’s all those who follow them from states away because they had a great great grandfather who had an apostrophe in their surname.
I believe it’s what differentiates them from other programs with successful histories to the point where they are enabled to operate like they do.

It’s freaking corny.

You know what’s cool, supporting your alma mater. Don’t have one? How about your home state school?

Allegiance to cartoon characters is for children.

I wasn’t sure if there was something historical that they did directly to Rutgers.
BTW- to your point. Growing up in Dutchess County NY. Back in the day of 9 active channels of TV…when it came to football- College and NFL. The teams that tended to be on TV every week were ND, USC, Michigan for college and Cowboys, Steelers and Rams.
That is a big reason you have the mass following of Cowboy and ND fans.
I used to be a huge ND and cowboy fan myself.
I still have many friends that live in upstate NY that are not Irish, never been close to South Bend in their life and live and die by the Irish.

As for Rutgers- let’s be honest, I started working full time in NJ in 1994 and moved to NJ in 2001. And I have always been a huge sports fan…and I had no idea that Rutgers sports was anything more than maybe what Marist College was back where I grew up but at least Marist would be in the NCAA BB Tournament every once in a while…

Why anyone would hate ND more than an institution that allowed and looked the other way as hundreds of young boys were raped in their football facility, is beyond me.,Hell, if Cuse and PSU are playing, I still want PSU to lose.

Not a fair comparison- the ND football team has zero to do with the Catholic Priests that did what they did. You can’t make that blanket statement for every single Catholic based institution. Do you also feel that way about every Muslim because of 9/11?
PSU, the institution was 100% directly a part of and complicate in what happened there.
Who says I can’t make ‘blanket statements?

That’s also a laughably hypocritical take… The Penn State Football team has zero to do with what occurred 20+ years ago at Penn state by people either dead or currently in jail, so really what’s the difference?

Oh I know what it is! What this really boils down to is you personally are Catholic and take offense to someone calling out the institution you’re a part of. You see it’s ok to cast stones on others but you shouldn’t have stones cast on you isn’t that right Catholic?😉

End of the day, the Catholics are responsible for FAR and AWAY more abuse towards children than Penn state. Particularly with all of the recent news of the Catholic Native American schools of late. This fact is undeniable. Notre damn is the only school between the two that still recieves funds to this day from an institution that legitimately harbors pedophiles (pope Benedict harbored pedophiles)

I don’t support institutions that harbor abusers of children. F*ck both schools

When looking at institutions who have a history of abusing children (Penn state vs the Catholic church), the Catholics are responsible for more abuse overall. It’s for this reason alone I say Go Penn State! 🤢

Not bad reasoning

but while ND is a Catholic school they aren’t the Catholic Church (so there’s a degree of separation there)

plus (and this is HUGE) to my knowledge no children were ass-raped in NDs showers

so I am more happy that PSU lost

The Penn State FOOTBALL PROGRAM had everything to do with kids getting ass-raped in their showers

I don’t disagree with your take on ND. I just think there’s a little separation there. Yes ND is a Catholic institution (so I can’t fault you for your take). But with PSU it’s just so much more direct - it literally happened with the PSU program and their facilities.

Granted I usually root for any team playing ND but not when playing PSU.

Now I just hope ND loses their next game ;)

I’m Catholic??? Wow

As for funds- are you telling me- F-k any Rutgers player that came from any of the powerhouse Catholic HS’s as well?

How about top kids from Pa and NJ who have parents that support PSU and were supporting fans during the Sandusky years?

With what we know about the Catholics I’m convinced there was child abuse in basically every Catholic Church in America.. the numbers are so staggering.

I just can’t support anything to do with the Catholics with how much damage they are responsible for. Not to mention Native American children.

It’s maybe the one institution I despise more than Penn state, the Catholic Church. I can’t support anything to do with it

Sorry I can’t stand ND but Penn State and the Sandusky abuse of kids will always make Penn state worse. Plus the cult that thinks a 60+ ranked school is the greatest thing since sliced bread is annoying

Time for my ND story that I have posted on here before that typifies an ND fan.

At a golf outing in the hospitality room after the days rounds. ND vs U Mich is on the TV. A drunk guy all dressed up in ND gear is yelling that their QB is going to win the Heisman, this was years ago. I just spoke up and said "they are losing by 20, no freaking way" . Guy gets up and looks me up and down with my RU gear on and goes on a rant about how RU sucks. I started to walk away and he calls me a "fu%^3 ass$%^". I turned around and said "Now you are getting personal. Let me look at you. You are probably Irish, you are a drunk and have no clue what state ND is in".
The whole room was listening by now and were yelling "what state?" . He didn't know, and proceeds to take a swing at me. I brushed off the swing and let him go flying and then everyone jumped in.

Every year after this at this outing at least 3 people come up to me and pat me on the back and say "what state is ND in".

Saying all this, last night watching the game and seeing their fans and Franklin I had to root for ND and I do like their head coach.

Did I say I supported Penn state!”? Absolutely not!

I just recognize that it was about 5-10 kids that got abused at Penn state, it’s THOUSANDS of kids who have been abused by the Catholic Church.

I would tell you anyone who willingly sends their child to an institution associated with Catholics is either severely misguided or catholic themselves.

You gotta understand, if there’s ONE institution I will die on the hill of how evil they are for turning the other way and ignoring the problem, it’s the Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict confirmed this

Not gonna argue with that

I think you and I are 99% on the same page. In this case I just despise PSU a little more for the reasons I stated.

I have a high school junior who is looking at schools - I told her that she is forbidden from PSU. She (being a kid and not knowing the history) thought it was a “rivalry” thing. I told her the actual reason and told her that PSU would never get a dime of my $.

I don’t care who they are playing or what conference they are in…You just never root for PSU. Never
I'm with you.

Their dirtbag, cultist fans should never be able to crack a smile about anything in their entire lives let alone a playoff win.

If you've ever been out there for a game and dared to wear red, (and had to sit with the unwashed and not in a suite or VIP seating) you know exactly why. Animals (pronounced Ah-nee-mal).

No fan of ND, but my issue with them is that they're vampire leetches in terms of how they conduct business, but at the end of the day it's just business. My hatred of Penn State is DEEPLY personal. I could have watched the game in my backyard in a tank top and shorts last night and been perfectly comfortable because my hatred of that place and its fans is like a nuclear reactor. Thirty years and still as strong as day one.

Ooooh do tell! What caused such a hatred? Particularly as you reference this is a 30 year hatred that is personal and the whole Sandusky thing didn’t come out until 2011 so this dates back much further..

I’m legitimately wondering what was it that caused this much hatred? Was it the whole Doug Graber and Joe Pa at midfield exchange?

Just make sure above all else as she is looking at colleges you keep her the HELL AWAY FROM Liberty University. There’s maybe not a more dangerous college on the planet for a father to send their daughter

Spanier, Schulz and Curley, who all KNEW and they let it happen suffered a slap on the wrist. Two of them are still alive.

The Cult fans won't even admit that JOE KNEW. Truly sickening.

When they first KNEW what was going on, my son was nine years old. I looked at him then and bile rose in my throat. There was a criminal conspiracy to cover up child rape. Take your whataboutism to your next NAMBLA meeting.

JOE KNEW!

The way Allar was playing makes it a little questionable but I don't have a big issue with it because they had 2 timeouts and only needed a FG. They also got 10+ yards on the first play with a run. I might have continued that or maybe short easy throws to Warren or one of the backs to see if you could cross the 50 on some YAC. Then maybe open it up a little.

Allar's decision making and accuracy weren't good. He's lucky 2 INTs got called back on penalties too. I didn't think either of those decisions or throws were good.

Iffy I think you misread what I was saying.

I understand Joe Knew, I’m not defending Penn state in any capacity. I’m stating that when it comes to child abusers being harbored by an institution, there is no worse example in this country than that Catholic Church.

What this boils down to for me is 5-10 kids getting abused as compared to THOUSANDS of kids being abused.

Personally both are unforgivable imo, however I’m not gonna sit here and selectively ignore how much worse that Catholics are were with Their abuse of children

5-10 kids at PSU- tells us all what we need to know about you.
As compared to the 1000’s that were raped by the Catholic Church?

Oh dude it’s like comparing Ted Bundy to Adolf Hitler. The amount of abuse the Catholics are responsible for is undeniable. And yes it’s VERY CLEAR that you are selectively offended because you yourself have some kind of connection to the Catholic Church and don’t like being labeled as such. SUPER OBVIOUS what you are doing.

Your ability to seperate the two tells me everything I need to know about you. It’s not about the kids with you, it’s about a football rivalry. That’s clear by the numbers

A guy I knew in NJ several years ago was a really big Michigan fan. He did not go to college. I asked- did someone in your family, a friend or a neighbor go to Michigan. Nope. So, how did you become such a big fan living in NJ your whole life with no connection to the school. His answer was - I don't know, I think I just like their uniforms. . . .

Glad they lost . Agree yes rutgers, I work with kids and hate that school for Sandusky.
And the denial of a large segment of their creepy, cultish fanbase. And the lionization of JoePa after he passed. And the lots of other creepy stuff that happens there like the chemical engineering professor arrested for having sex with his dog in a state park a couple of years ago. The place just breeds creepy stuff.

I really don’t get the argument wanting Penn State to win for financial reasons. We benefit no more than other conference teams. So competitively the money is a wash. If we got 10 mil more than the rest of the league teams if Penn State won, I MIGHT root for those sick bastards. Highly unlikely but might. Shocking the “die hard” Rutgers fans rooting for them last night.

Do the Penn State supporting RU fans not remember or hear of the 1995 Meadowlands game? Hated Penn State before that but that game sealed the deal. At the time we thought that Jo Pa was running up the score to impress poll voters, but it has since come out that it could have been a gambling related issue with Mike McQuery (who broke the rape scandal). Either way F'them.

Tough for RU sports board fans: Do we hate anyone more than these two? Is it like Iraq vs. Iran? Or is Michigan above them in the “love to hate” ranking? (My impression is that OSU doesn’t raise the hackles that these guys do.)
