New SHI Stadium Entry Rules

Guessing you don't manage to get out of that EMP bunker much these days. Sports and entertainment venues are all starting to trend (or have already changed to) cashless.
That's all fine and good, but you aren't addressing the massive hack stated by the OP.

They had the "enhanced security" at the spring game. You just walk thru a metal detector. It forces people to walk in one at a time instead of bunched up, so it will probably slow entry down a little at that end, but maybe it will give people time to bring their tickets up on their phone so we don't have to wait for them to do that by the scanners 🙄

ALSO

Looks like Johnson Park is officially part of Rutgers parking again. $30/game to park

To simplify, maybe this should read "all groups with wives and/or children must enter through North Gate C, etc".
I said this on the premium board. You just funneled 1/2 the stadium to only certain gates. We bought the clear Rutgers approved bags from inside the stadium for a reason, for ease of entrance. Now we'll be stuck, not only in certain lines but also the one person per weapon detector. It only takes one person to start backing things up and then it snowballs. What could possibly go wrong. SMH

speaking of cash, I wonder how much of that cash from game day parking back in the day ended up in someone's pocket. No parking passes back then it was drive in, pay the guy and find a spot. Would have made a good Soprano's episode shaking down the parking lot guys
Long time ago (you can tell how long because it was $1 to park except scarlet was $2) I worked collecting money for parking. Was supervisor at one of three entry points and we had students who took the money. Each person who collected money was given numbered tickets and if you had 100 tickets handed out you had $100 to be turned in to overall supervisor when we came back to the stadium. Tickets sold and receipts were tallied and went in deposit bag to go to bank. Only problem that could occur was you had more cars come in than you had tickets. We still collected the $1, and hopefully they students turned in the excess - no way of knowing for sure, but on more than one occasion my gate turned in more $ than tickets.

My response was related to the trend of Entertainment and Sporting venues taking only credit cards. Not sure why anyone at this point would need cash at a game - and even if so, there are reverse ATMs that convert Cash to Credit if needed. If there is some type of massive hack or super solar flare EMP that takes down the entire credit card and banking systems preventing financial transactions for any extended period of time, there will be much bigger issues to worry about than if I can't get a Pretzel and Sprite for my kid at an RU Game.

And made it less likely families and female casual fans will return/become season ticket holders.

This will disproportionately affect female fans and families. Women’s clothing often has no pockets or very small pockets, so not sure where phones, wallets, etc will go. It’s going to be a big turnoff for families and female fans. Coupled with the fact that they’ve never figured out how to move the lines quickly, this has all the makings of a disaster for fans.

While it is not a Rutgers-specific issue.. consider the protesting Canadian truckers and how their bank accounts were froze. Our cash says Legal Tender for all debts public and private. The day there is no more cash then the government can freeze/seize your assets by flippin' a bit.

Did you know of the cases where people were taking flights with $5K or more in cash and the DEA intercepted them and seized the cash regardless of the fact that it is perfectly legal to travel with cash? That then starts a whole red-tape and courts rigamarole to get the cash back... if you ever get it back.

That's what this cashless thing at Rutgers signifies. Just another step toward Big Brother. I probably should add I thought going all digital was a good thing at one point.. to put the hidden economy on the tax rolls... now.. I think there is more danger going that way.
Meh. Our government has a massive military. If they want to "take over" everything, people having some cash isn't going to help a whole lot.

Unless people want to keep huge sums of cash at home, then having some cash isn't going to prevent the government from shutting people down if they want. And keeping huge sums of cash, for anybody not engaged in illegal activity, is dumb since that money could be put to work using the marvelous effects of compound interest or other investment income.

The whole "big brother" ship sailed decades ago. And it's not the government people need to worry about so much as the many private big data organizations who gather, organize and evaluate every last little detail about all of us. If you want to avoid that, forget cash, you need to toss all your digital devices, which these days includes your TV, refrigerator, car, phone, etc. and move somewhere where there are no cameras anywhere.

Actually in recent years the lines to enter have been a cluster for the first game, but the experience has consistently been much improved for the rest of the season.
Probably be that way this year as well.

Television timeout clock is a good idea

The key to avoiding men’s room lines and not missing game action is by accurately predicting an upcoming television timeout .
Plum knows !
At the RAC, it also about season ticket seat selection!

They don't want you to bring bags. "Security". This is another way to make you  really think about whether you need to bring that stuff in.

Which is another way to make you really think about whether you even want to bother going to the game or just watch it on the 80 inch TV you could buy if you didn't get season tickets.

And yet people wonder why - even with Rutgers in the Big Ten & on the precipice of great things - my wife and I are unhappy fans and contemplating this being our last year.

Currently having this debate with Mrs. Shift on the necessity of bringing a clear bag. She claims it necessary--for colder weather, gloves and a big blanket, binoculars (we use them quite a bit), and a few other assorted things. She said we HAVE to bring in the bag, and we will arrive earlier if necessary. I don't want to die on a clear plastic bag hill.

Yup. Female fan here who has a wallet, phone, and weather-dependent stuff later in the season. Anyone with kids will have kid supplies, too. I'm sure getting there earlier will (hopefully) mean you get in before kickoff, but fans shouldn't have to wait in line at the north/south end in chaos while Rutgers figures out how to check clear bags. Even when you could bring bags into any entrance, the bag line near the Scarlet Lot was often 20+ minutes. Now take that and move every person with a bag to just a few entrances. (Let's be real- few non-student fans enter through the student gate. In fact, I've been told in the past that the gates are for students and non-students aren't supposed to use them!)

Agree- it is a terrible plan- sounds like a plan to discourage fan from bringing in bags, which is ludicrous for the reasons mentioned. When we had kids in tow, we had more stuff to bring in. Now, it's just me and the smartest person in our house, from whom I take orders!!

Rutgers Athletics needs Hobbs back to restore order to the madness! 😏 😣

Best course of action is to escort wives to bag line, stay 5 minutes & then enter through the regular line.

Head immediately to the nearest beer stand & enjoy 1-2 cold ones.

By the time they get in you won't notice all the complaining about the bag line nearly as much. 😄

"The bag policy from previous years remains in place, but fans with bags must enter through North Gate C, Auxiliary Gate 1, Auxiliary Gate 2 or between Gates G & H (students gate) for inspection. All other gates will not accept bags"

Of course, the SHI Stadium map on the RU Athletics web site doesn't show an Auxiliary 1 or Auxiliary 2 gate!

but what about a beer for yourself ??

Game day central states Johnson Park parking is $40. Wonder which is correct??

I was on the Seaside Boardwalk many years ago in the 90s as a child.
Well before anyone was "cash less"
Power went out.

All those boardwalk stands that are cash? Closed down.

If the electricity goes out, nobody is selling anything. Credit or cash doesn't matter.
For better or worse - we're stuck.

If it's a prolonged outage (weeks?) then there are bigger issues than not having a couple hundred in cash readily available. And who are you giving that cash to in such instance? It's a barter system.

The real problem with separate "bag entrances" is that generally mobile ticketing requires groups to stick together.

If you had individual paper tickets that were easily transferred, then you could easily split up as a group and reconvene inside.

Mobile tickets are transferred easily enough. Just use an e-mail and (maybe) a phone number, and it's done. It's actually easier than paper tickets.

Huh. In the Northeast Blackout of 2003, I spent an hour or two in a Blarney Stone on 3rd Avenue NYC. They had no problem going cash-only reminding us all to "get 'em while they're still cold!"

Have noticed that their delivery drivers are back down to the large vans. During the pandemic and for a couple of years after, most of their deliveries were from private vehicles. Several of them drove off our driveway an on our lawn. We filed a couple of claims when they left ruts in the lawn, and Amazon paid what we requested without asking any questions. One guy went 4 feet oft he driveway during a storm and left 6 inch deep ruts in the lawn.

I like this alternative, as nobody will drive over my lawn.
One of the big EV Vans lost control on my driveway while flooring it in reverse in a thunderstorm last year and spun into the middle of my front lawn and completely beached itself perpendicular to my driveway. Amazon dispatched called a tow truck and the tow service said go **** yourself so they literally left the van in my front lawn overnight and towed it the next day.

Got a $2k settlement from amazon and fixed the lawn damage myself for 50 bucks. Zero evidence now.

Insane

That's worse than my situation, and we fixed our lawn with a little help from a landscaper friend. The bigger vans don't drive up our driveway. We are not that far from the road, and it does not seem you are either. If it is raining, they have rain gear that they can wear. I'm guessing they don't have a driver training program for drivers to drive those large vans. I drive fire engines and trucks larger than those vans, but we have to pass driver training and skills testing each year to keep driving those large vehicles. But we are a nonprofit, and Amazon must not have enough money for a driver training budget. Ha, ha.

This is very very frustrating. Idk how this is going to go but we are going to find out. I pay to park in green and now have to walk to the most bottlenecked entrance of all?

Does anyone know what Auxilary Gate 1 and 2 are??

I don't mind cashless transactions when I'm purchasing a house or a car or a refrigerator. But the smaller stuff is stupid IMO. What's the problem with cash ?
It can be stolen, it has to be handled/managed, it can be miscounted, etc. There is zero reason to be using cash here I have no sympathy for this complaint. I do have sympathy for the gate and bag checking changes. If this takes longer I’m gonna lose it.

See post #59 in this thread for the map.

Yup.

Auxiliary gates are the smaller gates to the left and right of the main entrance.
