Next year

Bottom line too many players potentially coming back that lack offensive skills especially at the center and small forward positions.A Sanders decision to leave would decimate the team to such a state that clearly there would be less wins next year.

Disagree

Sanders is very good.

The NBA does not have combo guards who aren't great shooters.

If he's going to play in the NBA, he needs to be the best of the best of the best in college. He has a LONG way to go . Doesn't mean he isn't a fine player because he is.

Corey is going no where. He is maturing, being coached up offensively by Brandon Knight and defensively by Jay Young and being taught tough love by Coach Pikiell. Having the whole team back next year except CJ will likely result in better chemistry, more experience and improvements across the board for every player on our team. We will have 4 seniors, sprinkled in with upperclassman that know how to play in this league , along with some freshman that will help with shooting and depth. If Doucore reclassifies to next year we will be able to replace CJ with an upgrade. I like where this team is going. Reducing turnovers and better foul shooting has to improve substantially to get us over 500 in the conference next year and would get us more wins this year.

Wow. I know you are no fan of Sanders, but it is scary to think of this team without him (and Gettys) next year.

I'd have to assume we'd get a 5th year guard with a starting spot wide open. That would be a unique opportunity for a 5th year

I play pick up basketball occasionally with a guy who knows Sanders pretty well. He has said for many months now that Sanders almost left for pro ball (not necessarily NBA) after last season, and is almost certainly gone after this season - though I have not talked to him about Sanders since mid-January.

I told this acquaintance that in my opinion, it was very unlikely Sanders would be drafted after this year, despite his tremendous NBA-level athleticism. He is just not a good enough outside shooter for a 6'2" guard and that he was more of a combo guard than pure point guard (guards that short either have to be great shooters, or great point guards). I also told my acquaintance that if Sanders left I was pretty sure he would end up in Europe or the D League ... and the number of players who made it to the NBA from either of those places was very small. And that if he were advising Sanders ever, for Sanders' own good, he should remind him of these points.

I strongly believe Sanders DOES have NBA potential, but that he really needs the development time, practice and coaching he would get playing for a college team - for at least 1 more season after this season. Otherwise he will be just another "what could have been" player. He will never get that sort of mentoring and development in D League or Europe.
