We've got to keep this guy on staff:

"E.J. has always been our point of contact. He's always initiated calls whether things were good or not," said Russo. "He's never shied away from making the initial phone call to us just to keep us informed as to what he sees, what is going on, and it's never anything but honest.

"He never back-pedaled on any questions we ever asked him. And I kind of bonded with him because I'm a pretty honest guy. You know, sometimes you don't necessarily want to tell people the hard things, but he never shied away from that. Anything that he ever knew, he would always be forthright with that. And as a man, I appreciate that."

Russo believes Barthel should be apart of Rutgers' "healing process" moving forward.

"That dude's a part of the healing, man," he said. "He's really held things together. He's a Rutgers guy, he's an NFL guy. He's just a goodhearted dude. He's the kind of guy who will help the place heal. If you purge him, you're making a mistake. You really are. He'd be an integral part of the healing process."
