Yes, I know ... WHO?!?

Yeah, ignore this post if you don't want to read it and no, I'm not making it OT.

Playing guard at UVA. Played in all 16 games so far.

6.1 PPG at 38.9 FG%, inc. 35.5% from 3 and 57.1% at the FT line.
2.1 AST and 2.1 RB per game.
1 ST and 1 TO per game.

He's better than Souf Mensah, but it wasn't the end of this world that the guy moved on. Probably better for us to move on from him.

Anybody would be better on the court than Souf (although he does get good marks for his off-the-court attitude and effort), but Johnson's numbers are very underwhelming for a 5th year senior!

Nope

If he was a freshman last year I might agree. As a senior this year, we would have certainly been better with him.

I'm surprised his numbers aren't better. It's a little comforting to see this but no question we'd be better off with him.

Considering UVA averages like 48PPG, his 6 PT average actually isnt too shabby % wise.

Im a bit surpised at the ft %. That is low.

Huh? UVA averages 70 a game.
Oh really? Ha. I didnt research that # (obviously)... I just assumed they were that same methodical defensive-minded low-scoring team from a couple of seasons ago.

With this level of production, plus the almost certain grumbling he'd be doing in the locker room from a reduced role behind Geo, probably for the best that he moved on. The very modest on court gains he would provide could very easily be offset by off court issues.

And who's to say him staying would mean we'd have him instead of Souf? It might have meant we didn't get Baker, Kiss, or Johnson.

Just took a look at the timeline. Geo committed in 2016, so he was definitely in. Souf commits in Jan 2017. Nigel announces transfer in Mar 2017. Kiss announces transfer to Rutgers in Apr 2017. Johnson announces commitment in May 2017.

So, it'd likely have been Kiss we lost for Nigel, not Souf.

I just don't think he would have been happy if he was behind Geo. It is long over and he wanted to go home to Virginia. If he stayed who knows what our team chemistry would have been like.

Not missing this guy. Very low bball IQ, black hole on offense and very bad decision making.

Fans are fans. Nigel Johnson was a grad transfer, so he was free to go anywhere there was mutual interest. He left us for UVA to play in the NCAA's . His choice--nothing Pike could do but wish him well. And he will be in the NCAA's, probably one of the four top seeds. Hopefully, getting suspended for three games will wake him up. Dickie V did the Louisville-UVA game and was talking about how these guys work so hard on their games, and their bodies, but make poor decisions.

Can't see why fans blame Nigel or Coach Pike. We had a nice grad transfer last year that became a crowd favorite and seemed to enjoy his year here. On the same note, around here, many columnists and fans are up in arms about FAU's starting QB, Jeff Driskell. The Owls had a huge year, losing the two paycheck games they play against teams like Oklahoma and then going unbeaten in Conference USA and smashing their bowl opponent. Then Driskell announced he was "quitting" football despite one year of eligibility remaining. Turns out he graduates in May with a degree in civil engineering. He says it was his dream to play college ball--but he never wanted to play pro ball. So he chose to start his life in May, rather than play a season as a grad. And a whole lot of people are upset. Fans.

I would agree----like all grad transfers he put his time in and got his degree.

Personally I think this new legislation being discussed with immediate eligibility anywhere if you transfer at any time would be the ruination of college athletics but not the case here.
