Nike Currently Gives $130,000 to RU for Uniform Contract

Get used to the new number style introduced this past year. Across the board on uniforms for all athletic teams
Hate it.

It's like one of the "designers" was watching the movie "Rollerball" and went....hey, I got an idea! Lol

You have to realize our deal was out in place while we were in the AAC....I expect we are going to get a huge payday when we renegotiate

this. We are getting Chump change now. Big Apparel buck$ roll in 2 years from now : UA, Nike, Adidas, make your offers.....

We win championships so thats why we get 100 million dollar nike contracts.
Maybe you guys should spend some of that money on education. You know there's a reason your one of the most uneducated and poorest states in America. When your state's motto is, "Thank God for Mississippi", you know your in deep sh*t.

Big Mistake if you go with addidas especially on the recruiting front. Look at the big dogs in college football. All Nike or UA. In all honesty Nike is right in fair negotiations. Rutgers isn't showcasing there latest designs on national tv every week. You WIN and the money comes. What leverage does your athletic department have going into negotiations? IMO kids dont want to wear no got damn addidas!!!! I hope this isn't Rutgers being well Rutgers as in expecting to be at the big boy table when you haven't proven a damn thing.

My first preference is Nike but if they want to give us pennies to Adidas' dollars, they can go pound sand...and I don't know if there's some alternate universe where UA makes overall cool CFB uniforms but I think they're the worst/ ugluest of the major uniform brands. Their namesake gear is just fine, but their uniforms look like garbage IMO.

...and apparently we're important enough for you to be on our board, so I guess there's that too. I've made exactly 0 visits to the Bama message board in the 12 years I've been on Rivals.

Hope you are wrong. I hate the numbers font. Looks like little kid drew it. Can't see every school using it. Not sure where you get your info.

Yeah, it makes little sense that adidas is just going to take a 100% nike design and just slap their logo on it...even if Rutgers "owns" the rights to the design in some way, it makes very little business sense for adidas to not have a new product out there.

Never said other schools will use it. Rutgers uniforms. Look at the soccer uniforms. Look at the basketball uniforms. Nike helped create the number font, but has no "ownership" to it. It is the font Rutgers has chosen to use across the board for all sports. You don't have to like it, just putting the info out so people can stop with their wild assumptions.

I admit that this is one of the most active boards out there and you get alot of visitors who just read. We don't have the same problems that you guys have. It's fun to read what other programs who are on the rise are doing. Like I said we as Bama fans respect when we get our ass handed to us because it doesn't happen often. Chris Ash and that OSU secondary were some of the reasons for that. I like Ash and you got a player Saban wanted. I'm not the only one lurking.

Kids care.

And big manufacturers have direct recruiting benefits through camps and AAU teams they sponsor.

Brand association matters. A lot.
Agreed. I do not think many people understand how many recruits in the most visible sports are in the hands of grassroots sponsors at a very young age. Elite recruits are playing on AAU, academy teams, club teams and are invited to camps controlled by the athletic equipment manufacturers.

Kids also want to play for teams that have the best facilities and access to the best equipment. Adidas seriously lacks in both equipment and footwear in most sports.

Umm actually we are on national TV every week u dumb elephant
2nd if you think recruits choose Alabama because of Nike you're wrong ... your uniforms are some of the worst in college fb (right behind Penn stat) I mean your helmets don't even match the jerseys. If Bama wore penny's (which they basically do) nothing would be different.
Lol.....and you could keep hoping.

Theres a reason why Adidas is cheaper and has less brands. They make the hands down the worst gear in all of college sports. You don't even have to believe me just google it for yourself.

As polarizing as our uniforms may have gotten at times, I always just kept saying "atleast its not Adidas". So needless to say, I really hope your intel ends up being wrong
It's already true that we will be getting more apparel from Adidas, in large part because it is less expensive. As far as a brand/uniform design change, I doubt anything huge since they just changed across all sports to the same font etc. although I have no problem if all sports (including football) went back to our original athletics font for the numbers that match our letter font.
And my "intel" is not wrong haha it's about as good as it gets LOL

If you do not think the logo on equipment matters you are sadly mistaken. At this point recruits may not be picking Bama because of NIke but it is absolutely part of the consideration. Bama is Bama and will get elite talent. Rutgers is in a different battle. Why give the recruit another reason to question a commitment?

It's not how bland the uniform is. It is the technology within and the access to the Nike facilities and development team. As well as access to the grass roots teams and stables of coaches within.

Adidas ever since Sonny Vaccaro left has been seriously absent in grass roots within most if not all sports to the level of their competition.

Also your argument for cheaper apparel is not a solid one. Why would an athlete want more equipment if is subpar?

Disagree. Apparel brand/logo is a small factor in recruiting, not enough to take a smaller contract from Nike/UA. There are other more important factors in recruiting. Miami switched to Adidas in 2015 and basketball recruiting has been better than ever before, for a football school. With new facilities and coaching/Miles, Nebraska is now reining in 4 star kids. Nebraska football recruiting or any perceived downturn is more about the conference and location of opponents and not a logo. North Carolina State, also an Adidas school is still recruiting 4 and 5 star basketball kids.

Compete and win and recruiting will improve.

I don't think Nike gave you an unfair offer. I think your athletic department is asking for something you don't deserve. It's telling that even under armor isn't even reported on.

Bama, are you serious? If we negotiated it, we deserve it. And you have no clue what Nike offered.

Your position is incredibly stupid. Take less money because you haven't won enough to get what you negotiated with another company. Idiotic.

What's Cal won to deserve the contract they have? Winning isn't all that matters. You are forgetting the one thing that Rutgers has that matters, that Alabama never will.

It's market.

Rutgers apperal just doesn't sell. Period. I'm sure in 2006 there was a surge in clothing sales but since then it's basically students, alumni and some central Jersey locals who wear Rutgers clothes and not many more. We can get those great offers when we build a brand. Right now our brand stinks.

People like to rag on Syracuse but their brand is 100x better than ours. Go to Syracuse and everyone is wearing orange. Everyone. Same can't be said for us. Maybe one day but we're not close yet.

The Alabama fan is right.

If the negotiated contracts are miles apart, obviously you have to go with the money. If they are somewhat similar do not see the need to change.

Seriously guys. Rutgers brand isn't on par with even the average P5 teams. That's reality. Our school admin basically de-prioritized big time athletics until about the year 2000. We were late and we never caught up or won anything at all.

So with that said. We take as much money as possible for hopefully less than a 8 year deal. And in 8 years if Rutgers does something big, our market brand will demand to be paid more.

But we gotta start climbing the ladder. And fast

I don't know what Nike offered. Your absolutely right Caliknight. My point is you are potentially switching to the company that is losing schools.

As someone who used to work for Adidas (recently), they're catching up on Nike in a lot of ways. Regarding technology, things like boost (which is now in Cleats and basketball shoes), the Ultimate tees and such are as good if not better than comparable Nike technology.

Regarding brands, Superstars sell gangbusters, on par with Roshis. The ultraboost uncaged, tubulars, and yeezys are extremely popular.

The anti-adidas rep is starting to evaporate.

Losing schools by gaining one. Ok. Adidas is a global brand. And even if they weren't it's all about the money. You said you don't think Nike made an unfair offer, now you are saying you don't know what they offered.

Funny mention of UA. Take a look at their stock performance in the last year.

Very disappointing.

If Adidas is paying us more, then that's our market value & what we deserve. That said, I don't like Adidas.

Are you being serious???

Everyone in upstate NY could own a Cuse shirt and that is maybe 3% of our market.

While i prefer nike, you take the highest bid. That helps our budget, which helps us invest more in sports, which makes us better, which makes our next deal (hopefully with Nike) worth more$$

I guess that you have no clue who SF88 is!!! He is the owner of Scarlet Fever, so I would think he might have some inside information that you are not yet privy to.

Like it or not, consistent branding is smart. We unveiled this all last spring. That's not going to change regardless of company. And it shouldn't.

We own very little of what you or whomever deems is OUR market. Maybe we own central NJ. That's about it. If Rutgers apparel sold well in stores we'd see it all over the area over other college teams. We don't. The market doesn't lie. Our brand is lousy.

Once again, its all about winning and winning tradition. If the football and basketball teams start winning consistently, RU gear will suddenly become very popular and we can renegotiate the next contract for more $$.
