Nike has Michigan seeing shades of green.

That's a lot of cash, but it's going to be an interesting relationship. Michigan and its fans are VERY proud of their traditional branding. It will be fun to watch the fan reactions the first time they take the field looking like a bunch of tarted-up disco whores.

Michigan won't sell out. Nike gets the privilege to have the swoosh on their jerseys.

I like how the school attributed it to Harbaugh in an obvious handoff. They didn't give them the deal because of Harbaugh, they got the deal because they are Michigan. Not even sure how he had anything more than a recommendation in a school wide deal of that nature.

Interesting ...
  • The deal shatters the 10-year, $90 million contract Notre Dinero signed with Under Armour earlier this year as the largest in the country.
  • The contract was announced by Interim Athletic Director Jim Hackett -- quite a feather in Hackett's cap.

We shall see - just remember how the Contractual Commandos cracked the whip on various NFL coaches & player - enforcing the ironclad rules about what can and what cannot be worn - even digging in and controlling whether or not San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan was allowed to wear a suit (he got to do it as long as he wore then contract holder Reebok's designed & made suit ).

I have no doubt the Nike has secured a level of 'artistic control' sufficient to enable them to showcase the Michigan teams in just about any leading sports uniform trend / style that they wish to promote.

Michigan will keep their same uniforms and won't be doing any crazy combos. This is much the same Notre Dame did when getting the Under Armour deal last year. They have the same traditional uniforms but wear a different uniform for their Shamrock classic game once a year.

$15.4 million is a lot of cash. I'm sure Nike is not losing money as Michigan sells huge amounts of apparel. If RU could get 1/10 of that, I'd be very happy.

It's insane how large Nike's budget is. Thank you everyone that buys the same shoes over and over again at a premium to help Nike reach world dominance.

I don't care what kind of unis they wear. We are going to beat them again and make it TWO out of TWO.How nice it will be if RU has their number just as we had USF's when they were arguably a better team than RU.

When it becomes cool to wear Rutgers gear in NJ for all age groups for people who never went to Rutgers then we can get a crazy deal like that.

Nike will make Michigan wear crazy uniforms for some games but their normal unis will more or less be the same as they are now. Maybe some tweaks but nothing crazy.

Darren Rovell said in his ESPN article that sources told him ND's is way more valuable than the $90MM reported and larger than UM's on an annual basis. Becuase ND's deal isn't just cash and apparel. ND also has stock options from UA. Unfortunately, no one will ever know becuase ND as a private school doesn't have to disclose all the details of the deal.

One other thing, UM's is not $169 over 11 years. It's only like $120M over 11 years. UM can opt out after 11 years if they want. If they don't then that raises it to $169M after 15 years.

It's disgusting money when you think about it regardless and certainly seems to show that the gap continues to grow between the haves and the have nots.

And with Texas apparently due for new apparel deal in a year or so, and UA rumored to be sniffing around them, they could set the bar even higher.

I get Nike needs to do marketing and advertising, but I wonder what a pair of $180 Nike sneakers would sell for if they didn't pay out these ridiculous amounts to TIger Words, Rory Mcillroy, Labron James, MIchigan, etc.

$5 ?
