No. 4 Rutgers Men’s Lacrosse Hosted Penn State in Regular Season Finale / Saturday 4pm

Heard all of this the last couple of weeks but hope some thought would be put into a closer relocation of the stadium like the one I offered but common sense will not prevail I am sure. How often are the rec turf fields used? Maybe they can make that parking on football game days or open up Johnson Park for General parking.

Why not make one of the grass practice soccer fields the stadium or will the soccer nazis lose their minds?

Parking is the least of the concerns. It's about building the best facilities possible in the right areas.

Even with the blue lot gone our parking situation is better than almost every school I have ever seen for 6 Saturdays a year. Also don't forget, there is a golf course where you can use a certain fairway :)

The site will be the blue lot across the parking lot. Game day lockers there. Easily viewable from the balcony at Rodkin and will look impressive to recruits. Guys can access it easily.

Disclaimer: There has been no official information released
That’s good. That was my point. Keep anything they do close to what is a fantastic building in the Rodkin. That place is soooo nice.

Agreed. I am typically not very impressed with buildings because I happen to see some tremendous ones, but the Rodkin is next level, for those that haven't seen it. Now we need the stadium to match and we are done for 25 years. All systems go.

Gotta say I am going to miss SHI a little bit though. We've had so many big wins in there. But, time moves and we must too. Fundraising is going to be key.

I hope Pat and BB used this past weekend to make a fundraising pitch to all of the lax alumni that were there.

i don't understand the need for a separate Lacrosse stadium when there are so many other more pressing needs. Renovating Jersey Mike's Arena should be absolute top priority just based on the sheer number of people in that facility each year and number of games/meets for basketball, wrestling, gymnastics and volleyball - literally thousands of people attending a multitude of events with woefully inadequate bathrooms and concessions. Long, long overdue. A legitimate baseball stadium would be next. Tennis team doesn't even have an on-campus facility except a few courts (half were taken for parking) and such a facility could be used by hundreds if not thousands of students. SHI is a perfectly adequate venue for lacrosse, and too bad if Schiano doesn't like it. Top team, Maryland, plays in their football stadium. Why build a dedicated stadium with limited seating when the goal would be to increase attendance to levels that would be best accommodated in SHI? I really don't get it. Spend multimillions because the team has to walk from Rodkin to the stadium? If the only justifications are to impress recruits, shorten the walk to the field, and assuage Schiano, I say no way. We've obviously done very well without a dedicated lacrosse stadium.

I suspect this will not be a popular opinion here.

I can understand why people want a lacrosse stadium. But we've had a lot of success at SHI

This stuff is driven by donors. People that put up the money can pick what that money goes to. Happens at every school.

Most schools give you the specific options to donate to specific teams, or programs...both academic, athletic, arts, etc...I have monthly donations going directly to the lacrosse program. I’m going to keep that going moving forward.

I know Michigan’s lacrosse stadium and south campus sports complex was basically built from a check written by Stephen Ross. He also has his name on the business school. If he wants something, he writes a check for it....

In the end, if the lacrosse alumni and donors want a stadium, they know what’s needed. If hoops wants an upgrade, rally the fundraising and donors.

Why was soccer allowed to lay claim to that field? If I donated money for something specific I'd be sure to have it in writing some language about how it would be used.
The lax team was never able to play on the field until early-mid spring because the field had perpetual drainage problems and playing on the grass in winter when dormant pretty much kills it. Since lax starts so early in winter, by the time they were cleared to play on the field the season was half over. Just made more sense to play in the stadium full time.

There was talk of replacing the grass with field turf, but apparently soccer on artificial surface is looked down upon. Not sure how soccer won that battle, however.

Too bad the soccer alums couldn't pony up for their own damn stadium.
Great question. I know it doesn’t sit well with the Yurcak family but it’s water under the bridge. My understanding is there is a soccer supporter who is potentially interested in upgrading the stadium. So we move on.

Only in NJ will a lacrosse stadium cost that much……unions, graft and overruns will do that. How about build it on one of the rec fields across from Werblin Swimming and Diving facility, in the middle of the sports complex but would not take away from parking?
This.
There is vast space in those rec fields across from Werblin. Would be an ideal site for LAX Stadium will ample parking around it {maintained}.

On top of the list needs to be a fixed indoor practice structure for Football. Football drives the vast majority of the $$$ revenue bus for all Rutgers Athletics. Want to compete in the B1G and get the blue chip recruits? This needs to be done sooner than later.

Yes, RAC expansion/renovation and football indoor practice facility are priorities, but if RU Lax alumni are willing to pony up $20-30 million, there's absolutely NO reason NOT to build a lax-only stadium. It is VERY distracting watching lacrosse at SHI with all of the football markings on the field, and in a cavernous stadium. Take a look at the PSU, Hopkins, and UMich lax-only stadium facilities and tell me it's not 100% better to watch those games.

As for the seating, the lax-only stadium would probably have 5,000 seating capacity (just a guess). Most games wouldn't get that many people, and for the ones that do, you just make sure there is "standing room" capacity around the perimeter of the field.

Way too far. It's not about just building a stadium. It's about putting it in the most strategic place possible to help the program.

That's job 1. Job 2 is see job 1. Everything else is irrelevant. Fortunately, the powers that be understand this.

It's all important and it's all going to happen. It's not going to be single threaded.

We will not be getting $100+ from the B1G to build a gender studies building. The expectation is that money will be used to fund and improve ALL sports to assure the B1G is the most competitive conference in the country across the board. Time to stop thinking in terms of either/or. We are in the B1G time now and we will act accordingly. We have a lot of catching up to do but the goal is to make every sport in which we compete top notch.

For the most part all projects start with the question, “What is best for the long term success of the program?” And go from there. Doesn’t mean we won’t sometimes have to make some compromises for budgetary purposes, but not when it comes to critical
strategic decisions for facilities that will be in use for decades.

A 6K seat RU Lax only stadium needs to happen. Not only will it be good for the team, get Schiano off of their backs, but they could also host the Elite 8 in the NCAA Tourney and host NJ State Champ Games for lax as well in June.

A 6k stadium is too small for Elite 8s. They've regularly drawn over 10k, more than that in Maryland.

I would expect that the stadium will seat 5K and easily expandable to 8-10K for hosting NCAA games. I can't give too much away, but if we can get this done, we will have arguably the best facilities in lacrosse. There is no reason we shouldn't.

Rodkin is incredible. Now we just need the stadium.

Exceptional day. To win like that in front of so many people and alums, that's one you never forget your entire life. Coach Hayes was definitely smiling down on that one.
