No. 6 Rutgers Men's Lacrosse Opened Big Ten Play with No. 8/9 Ohio State Sunday

Maryland 17 - PSU 3 after 3. Believe it or not Penn St.'s D isn't that bad considering MD has won 75% of the FOs, a least until the roof fell in. But now having seen all the teams play, they have the weakest O in the Big 10. Maybe it's injuries.

Marylands fogo is an issue.

I say this to myself every time I watch a game at a school that has a dedicated lacrosse complex instead of playing in a football stadium, but we really need a lacrosse stadium.

Penn State’s field is gorgeous, whereas it’s very difficult watching a game at SHI Stadium with all of the football lines.

Are there any well heeled Rutgers lacrosse alumni who can spare $25 million dollars?

Question for for everyone on this board. Why don’t we see ourselves on the same level as Maryland. We’ve looked pretty impressive this year, with the exception of the Princeton game.

When you win at this point now heading into April, the games keep getting bigger. Hopkins next Sunday night at SHI will be a huge game and a tough game. If we play our game we will be tough to beat. One game at a time. If we beat hop, the next Sunday night at College Park will be the biggest game of the weekend.

Defensively against Princeton we were giving them point blank shots in front of the net all night. That was obviously cleaned up since that game
Some of that had to do with Princeton. Sometimes the other team makes more plays. And while I agree our defense struggled in 1v1 matchups that day, they also held very firm in the 3rd qtr and gave our offense the opportunity to get us back in the game and our offense flat out disappeared for 20 minutes in the second half....in Q4 our defense finally broke down and that was it

Only point is we had our chances vs Princeton and both sides of the ball failed that night.

Princeton is really good. And I think RU is really good

Today defensively we shut down osu. I think they had 2 EMO goals and we had a couple communication errors on a couple other goals (missed slides, poor pick communication)...we didn’t get beat physically AT ALL...I’m biased here but I really thought we were dominant in the middle of the field today. We were better in GB’s, our rope unit ran circles around osu in transition and our poles were great

After the first 5 minutes, our offense was
excellent

Kirst was very good

To hold osu to 7 is really impressive. Really impressive.

Maryland doesn't have an "except for" yet this year. They're undefeated, including wins over Princeton and #2 UVA. And at somewhere between #3 and #6 in tomorrow's polls, it's not like RU is very far back.

There are 8 to 10 teams this year that if you have an off day when you play them you're toast. Princeton is one, and actually Rutgers is another.

BTW, when Dartmouth played OSU Tuesday the OSU midfield went 6-3 and Dartmouth's went 0-0. Think I might be a wee bit jealous of #44 and his running mates?

It’s coming. Let’s just hope we have the same advantage we have at SHI. Just something about playing there. We have a very solid record there over the last 7 years

I know that playing in a large venue like a football stadium makes it seem sparse but I kinda like it. I loved everything about watching the game at Princeton except the result but it does feel like a HS football crowd and that was two top 10 teams going at it..

Arms race - RU needs a lax stadium.
Yurcak is perfect but grass which just doesn’t work in the NE (was at UNC/Denver a few weeks ago and UNC is grass (shared with soccer). tOSU just broke ground on theirs.

Still holding out for the Death Star at RU but don’t know where that is at in the facilities master plan…so a lax stadium with 3k seating will do in the meantime.

Terps looked very very good against PSU last night. Such depth. Some of it can be attributed to the fact that PSU is not very good this year. Really appears that it is Maryland, then RU, and then everyone else in the B1G this season. Strange things can happen, but that can work for RU against Maryland.

As was mentioned we played well in the middle of the field and I wanted to highlight that I think our wing play on faceoffs has really been improving and kept things close in the first quarter allowing us to settle in and take over the game.

It’s coming. But 3k won’t cut it. Going to more like 6k.

We dominated the middle of the field. Our wing play was excellent. It can’t be understated. We ask so much of our DMids both short and poles. They are the gas of our engine. When they play this good we are near impossible to beat. From wing play, to clearing, to getting isolated constantly, they have a ton on their plate. They need to know all the slide packages, clearing game, and oh yea, play some offense. Yesterday their play was sublime. If you know lacrosse you saw multiple subtle plays where they filled proper lanes, dissected the D and forcing slides either by going to the cage or drawing guys out, then finding the open guys. Russo is a D long pole but he did it, Kamish, Coyne, Francko, Daninger, Reynolds, Rall. All made very savvy offensive plays that other teams simply either can’t do or aren’t coached or allowed to do. When you talk Nascar, it takes a team and coaching mindset, but you need the horses to run.

If you are an athlete our system is just tailor made for you. This isn’t an accident. The team was very much designed for this.

I’d also like to give props to Kirst for some absolute dime drops that would make Tom Brady blush. And the attack. They sure finished a lot of the hard work the other guys did. What a win. That’s Rutgers lacrosse

Guessing lacrosse for a few reasons.
Cali, if you're able to share, where on Busch are they planning to put the lax stadium? Running out of real estate, and can't really afford to displace more football parking (they already took a third of the Blue lot with the Rodkin Center).

I’ve heard a couple of places but ideally you want it as close to Rodkin as possible. You want the kids to be able to get extra work in very easily. In fact, you want to encourage it. Having the facility all bundled is what you not only want but must have.

@Caliknight is spot on. When you look at the film of our transition, all our guys fill lanes, speed up or even slow down to allow for spacing to take shape. It’s like a slow break in hoops, or a secondary break...our guys (88,29,44,6,2,26) have played a lot of lacrosse together...they all have high IQ, and understand how to space in transition...Remi is gonna be a stud also...he’s already good...but my point is this core group of 6 guys really understand how to find pressure points on defense in transition....

Sad part is most of these guys get very little publicity or love...hockey assists don’t show up in stat sheets and or shorties would have boatloads. Some of these guys play great week in and week out and have very little to show on the stat line...but bring so much value.

BB has done a nice job getting some pretty big ego guys (I know 2,6,44 have very large alpha dog mentalities and want to score) to be system guys and grind daily in roles that are thankless, picked on, and as Cali points out have a lot of responsibility.

Big game Sunday night. Fill the stands...the guys notice. Get off your couches and buy a $10 ticket and make some noise

One thing I would say is our alums and program know what those guys do. They might not get the national pub the goal scorers do, which is the nature of the beast, but those guys in the middle make that position sexy. If I was starting playing lacrosse again, that’s the position I would look at and want to play. You do it all in our system which is really a throwback to the way lacrosse was always played.

Bottom line is if you are an athlete it’s a fun as hell system to play in. For what we do, our guys in the middle are the alpha dogs.

Some teams try to hide guys there. We do the opposite. We let them shine.

Who gets done first Lax or Baseball?
One has little to do with the other. If someone steps up to the plate with a nice chunk of change, specifically for a baseball/softball complex, it’ll get done tomorrow. That being said Cali is correct at this point.

Yea I’d someone said I want to build a baseball stadium and am donating the funds to do so, that changes the equation. Short of that, it’s lacrosse. As we know, football rules the roost. And Schiano wants nothing touching his program or anything they have or use.

One of the best things about the program is the mentorship that’s gets passed down through the players.

I see a lot of guys that came before them in the Dmids and Scott in particular. And I’m sure we will see those things in the next Gen. It’s another sign of a strong culture.

Agree. When I meet freshman parents or transfer parents the thing I’m hearing is the older guys are great, mentors, helpful

When freshman parents come up to me and say that about my son, that’s more important to me than stats on the field. Be a leader, set the tone for good culture, and leave a footprint in the lockeroom.

++ this is very obvious and it speaks volumes about the program.
