Odd RU Fan behavior

Last weekend my wife and I left the 4 walls of Sussex County and headed to the Zimmerli to take in a new exhibit.
I decided to get off I287 via River road and pulled off in front if the Stadium and stared at the entrance and upper deck for a minute

My wife told me that this crazy behavior

She's right, that is odd RU fan behavior. Normal RU fans would pull into the Scarlet Lot and stare longingly at the stadium...Everyone knows RU fans care more about the tailgate 😉

I frequently roll through the Hale Center parking lot whenever I'm in the area

I've done it with my wife and daughter in the car when we're passing by and they think it's weird / borderline creepy, but like I tell them, if that's the worst thing I'm doing (no drugs, hookers, blow, excessive gambling), then it's not that bad

In that case, do they even bother glancing at the stadium, or just stare deeply at the parking spaces?

Yeah, I mean it's definitely slightly odd (at a minimum) that any grown adult would roll through the parking lot with their family in tow, so lowering the bar on the morality end is the least I can do to distract from those actions

Do the same on many of my trips from NW Jersey to the Jersey Shore. Just to see if anything is new happening over there. Several times during Covid, during the Fall of 2020 had my dog with me on these trips. I stopped, parked and took my dog for a walk through the yellow lot , longing for where I should be every other Saturday during that time of the year.

During Covid, the Sports withdrawal was so bad that I debated going down and tailgating in the yellow lot by myself, or even with my neighbor, and we could’ve just social distance, but ultimately decided against it

Funny you said that. We have a group that enters various walks polar bear plunges etc…. We continued to do them during Covid without the “official” designation. It was mostly about the “tailgating” experience. What’s interesting is we raised more money for the charities in these off event dates than we did prior years. Sport withdrawal lead to a flag football event. Game never happened because everyone was having too much of a good time tailgating.

I actually got the idea from the Browns fans who used to go to the stadium parking lot when the Ravens had home games, and Cleveland had no team for a few years, and tailgate

I was able to get my fix going to the Bleacher Bar in Boston to see the Sox play through the glass opening the last game of the season
Otherwise, I would have gone insane

One of my earliest memories is of my dad driving me past the RAC as it was under construction.

I don't think it's weird at all. Years ago I used to pass by maybe once every 2 weeks to check the expansion progress. On the rare occasions I go by now I always check it out.

Ha ha I had this habit too. Pre Uber days, I would travel often for work with a rental car to examine real estate projects and had 100% flexibility in where I stayed. Would try to stay near a major university if the region had one and jog through the campus and run the football stadium steps.

Favorite is Stanford (weather helps) and strange thing was the number of Asian tour group visitors outnumbered the students on parts of the campus. Worst was West Virginia University. Depressing town and even more depressing state. Campus, like Rutgers, spread out over several smaller campuses.

I was in Maryland on Saturday. I was cruising along on 95 until I got to Laurel (about 15 miles north of College Park), where I got stuck in a traffic jam that cost a lot of time. I then went to Silver Spring (about 5-6 miles north of College Park, just off University Boulevard). After that I stopped on campus and caught the first half of the lacrosse game vs. Syracuse (Brrrr). That drive took me about 35 minutes. Then I drove to Bowie (my hometown, and home of Brian Ellerbe, 8-9 miles east of College Park), which took me over an hour. I demanded some Jack Daniel's as soon as I walked in the door.

There are cars everywhere. Trips that took just a few minutes when I was there now take an hour ( the weather was bad so it was probably worse than usual). So I can see why people are choosing less and less often to fight their way to College Park, when they could instead sit on their couch and watch the game on a huge TV screen. This is all anecdotal, but I'm guessing that's why attendance is so bad compared to the old days.

I know there are as many Terrapin fans as there ever were.

I finally got back to Atlantic City at about 10:30 p.m...
