Official Fiesta Bowl Thread: tOSU vs Klempsin

OSU is sleepwalking - they look like they wanted to stay home. Maybe too much eggnog. Zeke would have been in the huddle yelling at people. Barrett looks lost.

Who's winning in the trenches..?
Where a team is getting outcoached doesn't matter. Clemson has a far superior offensive scheme. OSU's offense is unimaginably simplistic.

And compare recruiting classes. OSU clearly has the Jimmy's and Joe's. They are getting outcoached by a far superior tactician.

Clemson looks just fine running the spread.

It's the players, not the scheme.

Football still comes down to winning up front.

Skillet: they are very similar.

And I'd go a step further and say Clemson is running a lot of what we were running.

You have to win up front regardless of how many stars you have.

You mean that someone has to coach and develop the Jimmys and Joes once they get in the program? What a novel concept.

Ohio State's o line crumbles like a fine Bleu cheese as soon as the ball is snapped, especially on run plays. Is kyle fludd their o line coach?

See? Last play, the homerun was there, but they didn't execute.

This play, someone came untouched through an interior gap.

I don't know how you can scheme around bad passing and interior pressure.

Meyer is a master with star players at his disposal and he's struggling mightily.

Think this would look any better with two TEs and a FB on the field?

OSU's talent, with the notable exception of QB, is clearly superior. Clemson is playing a far smarter game because they are better coached. Better schemes and far better play-calling. Keep the teams the same and flip the coaching staffs? Swinney wins by a mile.

Clemson is getting far superior blocking. The schemes aren't that different. OSU hasn't blocked anybody all night. Watson is a better passer than Barrett, and his receivers are better.

Skillet: the schemes are quite similar. We can disagree.

The Clemson QB hit on some bombs early and OSU is forced to respect it opening things up in the running game and along the outside.

Meanwhile Clemson is getting all kinds of pressure keeping 7 and 8 in coverage.

I honestly don't know how we're watching the same game?

Either way both Ohio State and Michigan have laid eggs and proven themselves to be overrated.

Schemes are night and day. OSU game plan was the Jimmy and Joe game plan: "We're tougher than them

Must not, Mike! OSU has played incredibly close to the vest, while Clemson has opened up the field. On defense, Clemson has run blitz packages, while OSU has tried to outmuscle.

Again, Clemson rushed just four there -- look at that crazy pressure.

That has nothing to do with scheme and everything to do with getting owned up front.

Maybe that's coaching, but I think Clemson's guys are just better -- by a good amount -- up front.

Agreed. It's 24-0 now and I'm calling this one for Clemson.

B1G has not been impressive in the big bowl games. Penn State vs USC will be very interesting.

I wonder if Meyer is second guessing hiring Gary to be DC. Either way, he needs to thank Cardale Jones for that national championship 2 years ago.

Skillet: Clemson is keeping their safeties way back knowing the pressure is hitting home.

Meyer has to run and dink and dunk to force a safety up. It's not working

Now he just has to take shots downfield regardless because he's down big late.

Worked 2x in a row. Then it leads to an INT.

Which team has two all-American offensive linemen? Which team has had top five recruiting classes filling their roster? They are simply getting outschemed mammothly.

Look at this last drive. In desperation, Meyer opened up the game and made great progress. Where was that for three quarters?

Three passes in a row either overthrown or under thrown. It finally came back to haunt him when there was a safety over the top to pick him off.

Barrett threw a bad pass but Samuel seems like he could have had that instead of tipping it. Samuel has been weak all night

Mike, listen to yourself. Swinney is outcoaching Meyer up and down the field.

Ohio state is also losing the battle up front. On almost every run play there's 5 Clemson guys standing in the backfield in 1.5 seconds.

It's boys against men in this game. tOSU lost 11 guys to the NFL and are starting a lot of freshmen and sophomores. IIRC, the are losing only one guy to graduation this year. Compare that to, say, Meat Chicken, who is losing 15 starters. As bad as Clemson is making tOSU look tonight, the next couple of years will be very good ones for Urban.

Skillet: we both know accolades mean nothing if you play small in the big game.

Meyer is forcing the issue and asking a questionable passer to fire it into coverage.

Barrett is WAY better when throwing against man-to-man coverage and single high off play-action.

Unfortunately, Clemson hasn't allowed OSU to set it up.

Swinney has Watson spreading the ball all over the field and to a host of receivers. Urban has Barrett dumping to his running backs. Samuel has 8 of 14 receptions for a total of 36 yards.

As I recall, Schiano defenses have had trouble with spread offenses. THE Ohio Say what?

Is there any question of how good the ACC is? Great athletes, great QB play, great schemes. Is there any question about Clemson now @RUsojo?

The play calling by Clemson is SO MUCH better than OSUs. It doesn't matter what the calls are now...game is over...but Clemson was so much more diverse and THREW THE BALL DOWNFIELD successfully ....OSU is only doing it now out of desperation. Chris Petersen--watch this game--throw the ball on first down so you loosen up the defense...and it opens up your running game.

The defense has held up well though considering they've been on the field for everything but about 3 minutes since the opening kickoff.

Skillet: gonna have to disagree.

Give Meyer Elliot back and suddenly that play-action game would magically open up and Barrett would look more like his old self.
